*It is not the FIRST time Sitiveni Rabuka has mentioned his daughter. In August 2015, while resigning his SODELPA membership, he had informed the party's general secretary the late PIO TABAIWALU:*We strongly believe that the appointment has been sanctioned by Coupist Rabuka's three-legged wobbly Coalition government because there was widespread concern that NALIVA, Bainimarama's former Personal Staff Officer, was most likely to stage a COUP against the Coalition government. 'Lets sideline him to Australia, matey', theory. |
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya has vehemently denied rumors of a romantic involvement with Social Democratic Liberal Party MP Aseri Radrodro. She dismissed the rumours and labelled the claims as “fake news.” Tabuya insists that the texts and inappropriate images circulating on social media are fabricated and she has filed a complaint regarding this matter with the Fiji Police Force. She stands firm in asserting that there has been no romantic involvement with Radrodro and refers to those spreading this information online as keyboard warriors. |
Lynda's Lasulasu, JhootLynda Tabuya’s decision to break her silence to describe the evidence of a “romantic involvement” with Aseri Radrodro as “fake news” reflects the fact that she is fighting for her political life. She is going to have to persuade the current PAP inquiry into the allegations against her that they have been fabricated or face the prospect of censure that could see her propelled to the backbenches and inflict severe, even terminal, damage on her political career. |
It is an impossible task. Because the evidence clearly indicates that Lynda Tabuya is lying when she says there was “no romantic involvement” between her and Aseri Radrodro. Just as the pair lied to the Prime Minister last September and he, in turn, misled the nation.
The “brutal” sex she describes between the two in their leaked text messages may not be romantic in the traditional sense of roses and sweet nothings but some of the exchanges between the two are inarguably tender. And let’s just remind ourselves of the facts as we know them.
Not only were the explosive images and text messages that Lynda Tabuya sent to Aseri Radroro extracted from his mobile phone. She subsequently confessed to Aseri Radrodro’s wife, Sainiana -both verbally and in writing – that they had had an affair and begged for forgiveness.
If she says this is not true, she is lying. And In her comments to FBC News late yesterday (see previous posting), Lynda Tabuya told further porkies that Grubsheet is in a position to expose with hard evidence.
This is what she said:
QUOTE: The Australian Federal Police have assisted the Fiji police to instruct certain figures who have been on Facebook and have websites to take down. You know, content that they have displayed. And so I will be pursuing that continually in terms of the police investigation.”
FACT: The Australian Federal Police have not been involved in instructing “certain figures” – Grubsheet – to take down anything. It is a fabrication designed to create the impression that what we reported was factually wrong and is pitched directly at the PAP inquiry.
What happened was that Lynda Tabuya complained to the Australian Government’s E-Safety Commissioner – a statutory body set up to deal with complaints about image-based abuse on the Internet. Much of its effort is directed at “revenge porn” – people who publish intimate images of their ex-partners.
The E-Safety Commissioner wrote to me “in response to a report about intimate images shared without consent” on Grubsheet.
QUOTE: “We confirm the person in the intimate images located at the URLs detailed in the table on the following page does not consent to their intimate images being posted on the website administered by you, being http://www.grubsheet.com.au. “
“The person in the intimate images does not consent”. Who is that person? Lynda Tabuya. The images are of her.
The E Safety Commissioner instructed Grubsheet to remove a number of these “intimate images”, including one that depicted tattoos of turtles on Lynda Tabuya’s back.
At no point in the correspondence is there any suggestion that these images are fake. On the contrary, there is tacit acknowledgement that they are genuine.
“We confirm the person in the intimate images does not consent to their intimate images being posted on the website administered by you”
Clearly, publishing “fake” material and publishing material that is authentic but to which consent has not been given are two different things altogether. And this is something that needs to be clearly understood by the PAP Disciplinary Subcommittee.
I repeat: Grubsheet stands by the authenticity of the material we published in the same way that Victor Lal stands by the authenticity of the same material he published on Fijileaks..
Under Australian law, I had no choice but to comply with the E-safety Commissioner’s directive. Yet the record shows that I had already taken down most of the images BEFORE I was contacted by the E-Safety Commissioner because it had made some of my women readers uncomfortable.
For the record, below is edited correspondence from the E-Safety Commissioner (removing my address and the identity of the E-Safety case manager) and my response. There has been no further correspondence between us.
Readers can decide for themselves whether we have purveyed “fake” material or authentic material to which Lynda Tabuya objected because she hadn’t given us permission to use it. Yet a number of questions remain, among them:

- If this is “fake news”, why does one of the leaked images show a portion of a carpet that is an identical match for the carpet in Room 233 of the Windsor Hotel?
- If this is “fake news” why hasn’t Lynda Tabuya answered the call to “show us the turtles” – the tattoos that are clearly visible in one of the leaked images?

THE LAST SUPPER: Election loser and former Sodelpa Management Board member Waqanika accused of offering dinner to some Board members at her office to allegedly influence Friday (today's) meeting).
She has also accused the Radrodros' of trying to influence the SMB to join the FFP during the Coalition talks. If true, so what - it was the democratic choice of winning candidates to choose who they would be comfortable working with in a new government. It is no secret that Waqanika harbours her anger for the way she was removed from Fiji TV. We ran several stories based on the documents she leaked to us
Just reading Fiji Times (25/01/24) headlines this morning, I am glad that Mr Anare Jale has finally spoken publicly about Aseri and Sainiana Radrodro's role in the post 2022 elections negotiations where Sodelpa had to choose between PAP/NFP or FFP.
The Radrodros were indeed the main key couple that lobbied and spearheaded the campaign with the Management Board members to support FFP.
I could not understand the rationale behind the Radrodros motives for Sodelpa to vote FFP as the nation wanted a change from the 16 years of FFP Govt and moreso, the change from the 2 men rule leadership of Bainimarama and Khaiyum.
SODELPA Party stands for the preservation and protection of indigenous rights (amongst other things) & given the laws that FFP had introduced during their term of power, they were seen as a party that was anti iTaukei.
By the Grace of God and for those of us who sat in the Southern Cross Hotel we narrowly won by secret ballot - mind you, the Sodelpa Party constitution does not allow secret ballots in Management Board meetings. The secret ballot was requested by pro FFP MB members as they had received threats after they voted for FFP on Tuesday, 20th Dec, 2022 (Yue Lai Hotel) - the 1st voting which was nullified.
During the 2022 campaign period, all candidates including the Party members knew that we had to distant ourselves from FFP and we assured our voters that we will never ever form a coalition with FFP should a situation arise where we had to choose - well, who would ever think that the situation would arise in December, 2022.
The fact that Sodelpa even considered discussing with FFP was beyond me given that we had assured our supporters that we will never form a Coalition with FFP.
The demotion of Radrodro as a backbencher and this FNU saga has now become a secondary issue after the statement made by the Sodelpa Working Committee (WC) on Saturday, 20th Jan, 2024.
The threat made by the WC to even consider joining FFP has now become the primary issue.
Sodelpa received backlash from the public & party supporters when the WC threatened to negotiate with FFP simply over the issue of 1 person - Aseri Radrodro.
The Working Committee showed their incompetence, political immaturity and lack of understanding of the Party Constitution as they had no mandate to make such a statement.
After reading yesterday's Fiji Sun headlines, I told myself that there would have been some hope for Radrodro had the WC kept quiet in the first place & seek to resolve this impasse behold closed doors with the Coalition Govt..
Radrodro's picture alone sitting with other WC members (I believe he is also a member), naturally triggered thoughts to party members & supporters that oppose any coalition with FFP that the couple, yet again making moves (reasons only known and personal beneficial to them) for Sodelpa to join FFP. To succeed, they need the Sodelpa Board members to vote against the Coalition Govt. The Sodelpa MB meeting will be held tomorrow at Southern Cross.
I pray that for tomorrow's board meeting, there will not be any secret ballot voting as this is not permitted under the Sodelpa Constitution. People need to know whether their board reps are supporting or opposing the Coalition. I also pray that the Management Board puts the interest of the nation first over the individual/s.
Mr Jale and I are no longer Sodelpa Management board members.

POLICE PROTECTION. Bill Gavoka has asked for Police deployment at the Education Ministry, claiming that the angry 'Naitasiri Mob' might ransack his new ministry in 'protest', for many rank and file SODELPA members increasingly see him as traitor who has sold himself to Rabuka
THE FALL GUY: The sharks in NFP began circling around Radrodro when he demanded an audited account from Ganesh Chand's Pacific Polytec to whom Prasad dished out $4million of taxpayers money.
*The NFP is also refusing to answer whether the party paid a SODELPA Management Board member $160,000 as a 'Vinaka Vakalevu Cheque' for voting to go into coalition with PAP and NFP
*When Rabuka reshuffled Radrodro and Vasu but later rescinded his decision, the NFP had approached Bill Gavoka and had requested if AGNI DEO could swap the Labour portfolio with Education but Radrodro and the SODELPA Management Board refused the swap.
*During the Coalition talks, Sodelpa wanted Infrastructure portfolio but settled with the Ministry of Education.
*Yesterday, we had revealed that Unaisi Baba claimed that pressure was being put on her to re-instate FNU Registrar Sarita Devi otherwise Government funding would be at risk. It is being alleged that Biman Prasad had threatened to cut off the funding to FNU.
*Despite Rabuka admitting that he made a comedy of errors leading up to Radrodro's sacking as Education Minister, the question on everyone's lips is this: is the game plan to get rid of Radrodro from Parliament altogether so that Ro Teimumu Kepa can take up his seat - for she is lying next in line - and once again can return as Education Minister - a position she held in the Laisenia Qarase government?
POLITICAL TURF WAR at FNU between PAP AND SODELPA
The old political rivalries between Dr Tupeni Baba and Sitiveni Rabuka from the SODELPA days has crept into the FNU. PAP's choice of Adi Kesaia Seniloli and Sodelpa's choice of Semesa Karavaki was a political turf war at FNU that saw Unaisi Baba triumph as FNU VC.
Meanwhile, serious questions are being raised about Seniloli's time at FHEC Board, where she was accused of conflict of interest
FLYING HIGH ON SITIVENI RABUKA'S COAT TAIL BUT GAVOKA MUST ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT FIJI AIRWAYS FLIGHT TO ISRAEL
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will assess a complaint against the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka, Fiji Airways and others for allegations of abuse of office and fraud relating to the Feast of the Tabernacle Israel trip last year.
FICAC acting deputy commissioner Francis Puleiwai said yesterday an update would also be provided.
Fiji Airways, in partnership with the International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem and Faith Harvest Church, operated a charter service flight last year from Nadi via Hong Kong to Tel Aviv, Israel for delegates to attend the annual Feast of the Tabernacle. A charter agreement was signed between Fiji Airways and the charterer WABS Pacific, also trading as Pacific Voyager, according to documents provided.
The agreement confirmed a FJ$3 million bill for the charter flight and the complaint said this contradicted the FJ$2 million cost as publicly claimed by Mr Gavoka.
Pacific Voyager was alleged to have been the front company used by the Tourism minister while WABS used its other company, Kane Holdings as the guarantor of the payments if a default occurred, with the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem and Faith Harvest Church as the other guarantors.
Fiji Airways allegedly did not register the agreement with the Fiji Personal Property Securities Registry, nor was proper vetting of the travel agency and the churches conducted. Mr Gavoka was alleged to have abused office by authorising the charter with the understanding there were not enough funds available to cover the $3 million fee from Fiji Airways. The complaint alleged that of the total amount paid by the passengers, only $400,000 was paid to Fiji Airways, which left an outstanding balance of $2.6 million.
SunBiz’s questions to Mr Gavoka and Fiji Airways went unanswered before this edition went to print.
A source said the charter flight was a confidential commercial matter and Fiji Airways was bound by non-disclosure agreements.

The main player in the FNUGate was the strongest critic of the FFP governance practices but it has not taken him long to surpass abuse of power he alleged against the Duumvirate FFP Government. He even emulates Aiyaz Khaiyum’s style in the Parliament, oblivious that he is no Aiyaz Khaiyum when it comes to articulateness. One would have thought he would be chaste after his fingertip escape from the Taniguchi Scandal (courtesy of Christopher Pryde), which remains a ticking bomb.
How will Rabuka manage this scandal?
Will he look the other way and go along with his senior Minsters in protecting one Sarita Devi or will he think of her alleged victims, some of whom have had to resign to escape from her and from the lack of action taken by their employer, the FNU?
It is not only Sarita Devi who is PM’s constituent as the three Ministers in this sordid saga appear to be believe.
There are victims of Sarita Devi at the University who are also the PM’s constituent.
Where is good governance, accountability, and legal processes the Coalition Parties preached so vociferously during elections to differentiate it from the FFP?
How will Rabuka react to the unprecedented sacking of the Chancellor of his national university, a most prestigious of positions in Fiji? How will Rabuka react to the sacking of the highly respected, educated, and academically acclaimed i-Taukei woman, Dr Adi Kesaia Seniloli who is also a high chief from Bau?
How are the rest of the FNU Council Members who have survived, react to their colleagues being selectively victimised and losing their esteemed Chancellor?
It is believed that the termination of Sarita Devi’s employment was the unanimous decision of the Council Members, many of the surviving ones having fully participated in the discussion with equal strength or expressing even more serious concerns at the illegal renewal of a contract of a disgraced employee, based on alleged external coercion.
How do they feel working in the atmosphere of fear created by the actions of the Minister in sacking their prominent 4 colleagues for giving honest and fearless advice?
Is sycophancy now expected of the surviving members? Back to the Aiyaz Khaiyum regime in new clothes?
Or will they courageously resign en masse to say enough to cronyism, nepotism, favouritism, or even worse practices?
Honesty and courage are demanded!
Can we let Fiji slide again, even beyond the bottom? Have our people become Docile after years of repressive governments?
How will the Opposition FFP Members from the largest single Party and largest national votes, react to such behaviour of the Coalition Ministers in one Sarita Devi’s case and their abuse of power and direct intervention in the proper and lawful running of an independent institution of the State?
How will they react to the Coalition’s shabby treatment of a distinguished and a prominent Chancellor of the National University and her three prominent and professional colleagues who acted professionally in the performance of their duties. Meanwhile,

How will they react to the Coalition’s shabby treatment of a distinguished and a prominent Chancellor of the National University and her three prominent and professional colleagues who acted professionally in the performance of their duties. Meanwhile,
- Who is Sarita Devi, who has the potential to bring down this Government? How well does she know Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh?
- Why did someone as high in Government as Biman Prasad saw it fit to allegedly interfere in the proper functioning of an independent body under the Fiji National University Act, by intervening in the proper decision-making process of the University and at the level of the Acting Vice Chancellor, on behalf of one Sarita Devi for the renewal of her contract, knowing that she was under a large and dark cloud regarding her performance. Prasad allegedly rang the acting VC up to 4 times in a day to “twist the arm” of the Vice Chancellor to renew Devi's contract.
- Why did the Deputy Prime Minister Prasad intervene on behalf of Sarita Devi with Minister of Education Radrodro on numerous occasions?
- Why was Agni Deo Singh, at the same time lobbying for Sarita Devi with Council Members, as late as his appearance on 31 March 2023 at the TVET Forum on the FNU campus? Did Sarita Devi have any influence in having Singh invited as the Chief Guest at one of the University Graduation ceremonies this year? Why was Singh involved in lobbying for Sarita Devi with Radrodro?
- Why did Radrodro unlawfully intervene in the normal administrative functions of the University on behalf of one Sarita Devi, to DIRECT the University Council to reverse its decision to terminate Devi's illegally renewed contract, completely ignoring the alleged victims still on campus and those having had to resign. Apparently, the Human Resources Director at FNU has several files full of complaints against Sarita Devi by members of her staff.
- Was Radrodro reminded that he has no authority to direct the University Council? After using this language, “Directing” and he being reminded several times that he did not have the power “To Direct”, did he change his language that he can “recommend”. After his “recommendation” was not fully accepted by the full Council, did he then sack those terminated?
- Did Radrodro have the power to sack when the Fiji National University Act has explicitly taken that power away and provided otherwise for termination, thus ensuring the independence of the Council from such political interference.
- Did Radrodro, in sacking the Council Members, do so after specific charges were made by him formally and in writing to those affected Members, and provide natural justice - an opportunity to be heard on the specific charges?
- If Radrodro did not do this, does he believe in good governance practices or has he learnt differently from the Bainimarama-Khaiyum regime?
- Did Radrodro exert pressure on the Council members to seek employment for two failed NFP candidates at the last General Elections, at senior levels at the Fiji National University, one as a Senior adviser?
- Did Radrodro speak on several occasions in threatening terms, reminding Council Members that he had power to appoint, and implicitly he had the power to terminate, although the FNU Act provides otherwise?
- Did he speak to the Council in a threatening way that the funding for the Council could be affected if the Council disagreed to the employment at FNU of NFP rejects and did not renew the contract of Devi, as the Minister of Finance was interested in the employment of Sarita Devi and other identified NFP Members.
- Did Radrodro ever seemingly, but in exact words, threaten the Chancellor and another Council Member accompanying her, that he would appoint one Dr Ganesh Chand as VC, although he has no such powers to appoint the VC?

In February 2012, the late Russell Hunter and me had written two articles for the New Zealand Herald claiming, based on highly confidential files on us, that the Fiji Police Commissioner Andrew Hughes had tried, and failed, to get dictator Frank Bainimarama arrested in NZ. Like Tabuya, Bainimarama rubbished our claims. He executed his COUP on
5 December 2006
Fiji's chief of police made a private call to his New Zealand counterpart urging him to arrest Commodore Frank Bainimarama a few weeks before the military leader seized power in a coup in December 2006.
It was reported at the time that a request had been made through Interpol and rejected by the New Zealand Government but only now can details from behind the scenes be revealed.
In November 2006 then Police Commissioner Howard Broad took the call from his Fiji counterpart Andrew Hughes, an Australian, who wanted to know if Commodore Bainimarama had committed any offence under New Zealand law for which he could be arrested.
Teams of police officers from both forces worked over a weekend and agreed the future dictator could be charged in New Zealand with perverting the course of justice in a foreign jurisdiction.
The planned charge related to remarks made by Commodore Bainimarama in New Zealand regarding an investigation into his alleged sedition in Fiji.
Mr Hughes sent two senior officers - an assistant commissioner and a senior detective - to New Zealand to liaise in the planned arrest.
"Then Howard Broad had a change of heart," said Mr Hughes. "He said New Zealand Foreign Affairs preferred a political solution.
"I argued it was his decision as Police Commissioner as to who should be charged in New Zealand."
At the time Commodore Bainimarama was in New Zealand for his granddaughter's christening and the Foreign Minister at the time, Winston Peters, had taken the opportunity to broker talks between him and elected Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase aimed at diverting Fiji's lurch towards a military takeover.
A day later, Mr Hughes received a call from Mr Broad.
"He sought my assurance that no NZ citizen would be endangered in Fiji as result of an arrest," said Mr Hughes.
"Of course I would do all in my power to protect all the people in Fiji but a blanket assurance of that kind was not possible. It would be like me asking him for a similar assurance covering all Fiji people in New Zealand. It wasn't possible to give him that.
"In the end, Mr Broad told me, 'Well, we're not going to arrest him."'
Mr Broad, now retired, told the Weekend Herald yesterday in a written statement that he remembered the call well.
"I remember it as a highly unusual request to consider an allegation against the Chief of Defence Force of a neighbouring country's properly constituted Government.
"I remember giving this decision a lot of consideration because it contained complex operational, legal and policy issues. I made the decision but I took a lot of advice. I remain comfortable with it."
He said some aspects of Mr Hughes' explanation did not accord with his recollection but he did not specify what they were.
In Suva, the Fiji police force had been awaiting an opportunity to arrest the commodore on the sedition charge but were unable to penetrate his heavily armed personal security detail - rarely less than 12-strong at any given time.
"I had earlier taken a brief of evidence to the DPP," said Mr Hughes, "and it was agreed that there was a case to answer on a sedition charge.
"We wanted to arrest and charge Commodore Bainimarama but he was permanently covered by heavy security. I was very keen to avoid an armed confrontation between the police and the military. So we waited."
As Prime Minister Qarase waited at Suva's Nausori airport to board a New Zealand Air Force VIP jet to take him to the Peters-brokered talks in Wellington, he was surprised to be joined by Mr Hughes, who then explained that the arrest plan was unlikely to come to fruition. Mr Qarase was shocked.
The Fiji Police Commissioner boarded the flight and in Wellington he met a deputy secretary for foreign affairs but was again told the New Zealand Government's position was that a political or diplomatic solution was preferred.
Aware that the police were ready to arrest him in Suva, Commodore Bainimarama had made it one of his many conditions for any settlement that the police commissioner would have to go.
Mr Hughes had, a week previously, sent his wife and sons to Australia having received credible information that they could be targeted by a military snatch squad.
In Wellington, he sought consular advice which was that he should not return to Fiji. He never did.
Mr Hughes also considered the safety of his own loyal officers who would try to protect him from military arrest.
The 2006 coup was the commodore's fourth attempt.
In 2000 during the negotiations that ended the Speight hostage crisis he suggested that the military should run the country for up to 50 years but Speight - and the president - would have none of it. In 2004 and again in 2005 he planned to take over the Government but his senior officers refused to commit treason.
All were sacked.
By December 2006 it was now or never for Commodore Bainimarama. It was widely agreed amongst informed observers of the events of 2006 in Fiji, including the diplomatic community, that without Commodore Bainimarama the RFMF would be rudderless.
Had Commodore Bainimarama been arrested in New Zealand the Fiji military would have been unable and unwilling to proceed with the removal of the Qarase Government.
The then US ambassador to Fiji, Larry Dinger, summed it up when he told his masters in Washington in a cable leaked by WikiLeaks regarding the New Zealand arrest plan.
"Being passive with bullies only encourages them. An arrest abroad might be the only way to enforce a criminal charge and remove the Bainimarama thorn," he reported.
Labour's foreign affairs spokesman Phil Goff, who did not deal with the issue, could not confirm Mr Hughes' account.
However, he could understand why no arrest was made, saying such a course of action would mean a country lost its credibility as a mediator for dealing with crises.
"I scarcely think you were going to lure a person here under false pretences only to arrest him. That would be seen as an ambush and bad faith and it wouldn't have resolved the situation within Fiji. "

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has strongly denied claims made by two former Fiji journalists that he tried to mount three coups before his takeover in December 2006.
In two articles in the New Zealand Herald, the Oxford-based academic and author Victor Lal and Russell Hunter, the expelled former publisher and editor-in-chief of the Fiji Sun, said Commodore Bainimarama had tried to take over the country after the Speight coup in 2000, and then again in 2004 and 2005.
The latest article details what the authors say is leaked correspondence from some of Commodore Bainimarama’s fellow officers urging him not to proceed and warning that they would oppose him.
In an interview in Suva, Commodore Bainimarama said the allegations were “not true”.
In the case of 2000, Mr Lal and Mr Hunter reported that Commodore Bainimarama demanded the military should be given the authority to rule Fiji for 50 years but this was opposed by the then president, Ratu Josefa Iloilo.
ALREADY IN CONTROL
Denying the account, Commodore Bainimarama said he was already in control of Fiji in 2000. “For their information, I was in charge of the nation in 2000, so I took over in 2000. I gave the government to (Laisenia) Qarase”.
The Prime Minister said it was historical fact that he had handed the reins of power to Laisenia Qarase hoping that he would govern for all Fijians and not just the indigenous majority.
“Everyone knows the story of 2000 when I came in, so why they changed this and (have) people believing it, I don’t know”.
Commodore Bainimarama also denied subsequent attempts to seize government before his takeover in 2006.
He said: In 2004 and 2005, there was no intention then to remove the government because I was trying to tell the government to play ball.
“There was a build-up of animosity between us and the government of the day, but there was no intention then to remove them because I was trying to get them to change their stance on the Qoliqoli (coastal resources) Bill and the racism that was rife. I was trying to persuade Qarase that he was wrong but there was no talk of us wanting to do coups then.”
The Prime Minister also responded to the account by Mr Lal and Mr Hunter that the former Australian police chief in Fiji, Andrew Hughes, tried to persuade NZ police to arrest him during a visit there in the lead-up to the 2006 coup.
According to their report, Mr Hughes believed that comments made by Commodore Bainimarama during the visit constituted grounds for a NZ charge of perverting the course justice.
These comments related to an ongoing police investigation in Fiji into whether Commodore Bainimarama could be charged with sedition for threatening to overthrow the government of Laisenia Qarase. In the event, the New Zealanders refused to act, primarily because of fears for the safety of NZ citizens in Fiji if the arrest provoked a backlash in the military.
IGNORED THE HUGHES PLAN
The Fijian leader said he’d been aware at the time of the Hughes plan to have him arrested but had ignored it.
“I didn’t think much of it because I think this guy is a twit. I mean, who would think of getting away with the arrest of a defence force chief in the Pacific, especially an Australian coming to arrest a commander of the Fiji Military Forces”, he said.
Noting that the then NZ Police chief, Howard Broad “had more sense” than Hughes to reject the request, Commodore Bainimarama said the arrest attempt “didn’t surprise him” and he believed that Andrew Hughes was acting on the instructions of the Australian Government.
“I have no doubt about that. The government of the day (Qarase’s SDL) were puppets in the hands of the Australians so Hughes was doing the bidding of both the Qarase government and the Australian Government”, he said.
The Fijian leader said the arrest attempt did not change his behaviour in any way. “We’d already made up our minds on what we were going to do and that was to remove Qarase,” he said.
PERSONAL VENDETTA
He also launched an attack on Mr Lal and Mr Hunter, claiming they were engaged in a personal vendetta against him.
“You should look at the writers. They are not credible people. Victor Lal runs down everyone in Fiji. So does Russell Hunter”.
The prime minister said Mr Hunter was motivated by anger that he’d been expelled from Fiji after 2006.
“He got the kick from here so obviously he will try and retaliate,” Commodore Bainimarama said.

"I am writing to bring to your attention some concerning issues related to racial subjugation and questionable appointments at the Fiji National University. While I am highlighting just a few of the problems, I believe they warrant a thorough investigation." .
The Whistleblower makes the following allegations:
Dr. William May was compelled to step down from his role as Acting Pro Vice Chancellor Learning and Teaching and return to his deanship position. This decision was influenced by the VC to create an opportunity for her close friend to assume the acting position. Currently, Dr. William is in the process of going for a study leave, and there are concerns that HR is hesitant to renew his contract due to the pressure from the VC.
Appointment of Acting Pro Vice Chancellor Learning and Teaching (Dr. Jimaima Lako): Dr. Jimaima Lako (VC's best buddy) was appointed as the Acting Pro Vice Chancellor Learning and Teaching, despite ongoing investigations by HR into her conduct, including allegations of bullying. This appointment, seemingly made without waiting for the investigation's conclusion, has resulted in reported incidents of bullying within the Office of Learning and Teaching. Several staff members have resigned due to the hostile work environment created by Dr. Lako.
Appointment of Associate Dean Learning and Teaching - CBHTS: Three PhD staff members of Indo-Fijian background submitted their expressions of interest for the position of Associate Dean Learning and Teaching - CBHTS. Shockingly, none of these staff members received any acknowledgment, and the position was awarded to a person, who did not even apply for the role.
*The position went to Filimoni Saumaki, who doesn't even hold a Master's Degree.
These instances raise serious concerns about the fairness and transparency of recent appointments and the overall regulation of staff at the university. Such matters not only compromise the working environment but also erode the integrity of the academic institution.
In light of the above, I respectfully request that you initiate an immediate and thorough investigation into these matters, including the recent appointments at FNU. The HR Director is being pressured by the VC to make appointments for her associates, even to the extent of creating new roles.
It is crucial to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and non-discrimination in all aspects of the university's operations. Addressing these concerns promptly will contribute to maintaining a conducive and equitable environment for both staff and students.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a swift resolution.
Thank you.

TIME to act Juki Fong CHEW against Tabyua 'chewing weed' in Room 233
*She NOT only abused the Victorian Parliament's hospitality that hosted a three -day workshop on the 'Role of Whips in Parliament' but while holding 'Fiji Diplomatic Passport, Tabuya committed drug-related crime on Victorian soil. The hotel is situated on Bourke Hill in the Parliament Precinct - Parliament House, meeting place of the Parliament of Victoria.
*She has brought disgrace to Fiji and the Coalition government, with her pet whip hound dog - the Fiji Times - covering up for her
*We have revealed how, on the night of Tuesday 22 August 2023, she left the door to her Room 233 unlock for Radrodro to sneak into her bed at The Hotel Windsor, took to a bottle of Jack Daniels (see her own photo), and ended up bonking Radrodro until the early hours of the morning on the second floor while Mrs Radrodro slept five rooms away down the corridor.
*The next night, on Wednesday 23 August, Radrodro could not meet her, for he stayed up with his wife, and the delegation was returning to Fiji on Thursday 24 August.
*That night, lonely and upset, she tells Radrodro in a text message (we have it) that she is 'lost' without him but is going to find comfort in the 'plenty of weed' she has on her in Room 233.
*Where did Tabuya obtain the weed from - did she smuggle it through Fiji's Customs and Immigration, exploiting her Diplomatic Passport?
*The Immigration Minister PIO TIKODUADUA, who was part of the Whips Delegation, must launch an investigation, and call on the acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew to detain and question the Minister for Women and Children Tabuya.
*Some claimed to us that they overheard her mention to Radrodro, 'Haven't you heard of the 'Diplomatic Bag'.
*How did 'plenty of weed' end up in Room 233 in Melbourne?
*Has she had on her 'plenty of weed' on other overseas Ministerial trips?
*Who is her local supplier in Fiji?
*Or did she obtain 'plenty of weed' in Melbourne?
*Perhaps the acting Police Commissioner could contact his Melbourne counterpart and the two launch a joint investigation against her claims?
*In a revolting collusion, the Fiji Times, Sitiveni Rabuka and PAP have not pursued her 'bonking and drug-taking boasts' in Room 233.
*We will reveal how, on 27 August 2023, she admitted to ADULTERY that she committed while representing PAP at the 'Workshop on Whips'.
*We find it repulsive that neither Tikoduadua, who was part of the delegation, nor NFP leader BIMAN PRASAD, have responded to our allegations. After all, NFP's Sashi Kiran is deputy to Tabuya.
*As for Prasad, his own case of sending lurid text messages to the wife of his former provincial election candidate is before the Fiji High Court.
*Sitiveni Rabuka stands condemned for his own 'kama sutras'
*LYNDA TABUYA must resign or be sacked from PAP.
PAP and Minister for Women and Children, Her Minister Marama Lynda Tabuya to the now dismissed Education Minister Aseri Radrodro
