There is need for PROTECTION of the local resources from corporate exploitation and greed. The experience worldwide is that often governments instead of providing the protection they should be providing the local resource owners, collude with the corporations - usually foreign TNCs - to short change them to fill their own pockets.
The public must guard vigilantly from that happening in our small island nation.

In one submission i read gravel sold for $21 and landowners receiving $6 per cube,implying profit of 15.No consideration is given to cost to extraction, machine to dig, truck to cart, labour, maintenance and finance.

I'am no expert but educated itaukei should put their knowledge together and undertake careful due diligence, perhaps look at aboriginal land in Australia and Indians of America.And than the matter be debated in all fairness,JV's should also be thoughtfully looked at.

It is so heartwrenching,when the educated Fijian are left on the side and alllow, this son of a gun Bainimarama dictate to all what is to be done.
He cannot even appoint a Vunivalu of Tailevu Confederacy.

Bainimarama has no authority to appoint "a Vunivalu of Tailevu Conferderacy". Tailevu is not a Confederacy but a province.

There is a saying that it is better to keep ones mouth shut and be thought of as a fool, rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Congratulations for being the first one on this forum to demonstrate the truth of that adage.

As pointed out in another post, the Government does not appoint the Vunivalu.

Bainimarama has no authority when it comes to traditional (chiefly) appointments.

And yes, Tailevu is a province, not a Confederacy. The Confederacy of which Tailevu is part is, Kubuna.

Voreqe will appoint Nailatikau to be Vunivalu of Bau. No one from Bau can stop him from doing it. He has the support of the Cakobau house GK and Adi Litia. All they need is money to be silence now.

First error,lie and cover-up is it should not be called Bauxite mining.or extraction..in fact Land with Bauxite & other minerals are taken to China...Extraction is done in China.....Landowners should take all approving agencies to court....

Like said above due consideration be given to environment, due consideration be given to landowners, due consideration be given to equity of itaukei interests... end of the day commercial interests come to play thus one needs astute leaders for the benefit of the nation and it's people.
Itaukei population has a vast educated and noble amongst em but remain hesitant to help and educate their own beings.

The reality, based on Fiji's political history, is that the so-called "educated and noble amongst (the i taukei) have used their superior knowledge and chiefly authority to misinform 'their own beings' for their own selfish ends.

We had the astute leaders you crave for but they succeeded in propagating disinformation, milking the system and lining their own pockets. Some of these guys are sitting there in parliament!
