Nair categorically denies the allegations and Khaiyum, arrogant personified, never bothers to respond to any questions from us

Editor,
Nuts in Power.
President Trump bragged to two top Russian officials that FBI director James Comey was a " real nut job " and that firing him eased " great pressure " on him ( ' NYT : Trump brags to Russians about firing ' nut job' Comey' CNN 19/5 ).
I have not seen anything about Comey to suggest he was a " real nut job ". I have however seen a lot about Trump to suggest he is something of a nut job. That's why so many Americans including people from his own political party and people around the world are astounded that he has become the president of that great country.
How did they manage to do that?
But let's face it : it's not uncommon to have nut jobs parked in power.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

If that photo of Aiyaz Khaiyum and Sarah Conrad was taken at an "official function" just tells you how demanding official functions can be in Dubai!

Well, Sarah seems very relaxed and comfortable with AG's arms around her !!

Its only when Nair is no longer PS is she complaining publicly !!

We have no confirmation of Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum covering up Robin Nair's " hand up [Sarah Conrad's] thigh" . Nair maintains he did not let his hand engage in that Trump manueuver.
We do however have a confirmation from Fijileaks revelations that Khaiyum covered up the exhorbitant, inflated salaries he was collecting with Bainimarama through his Aunty Nur Bano's private accounting company. He also covered up the non presentation of the Auditor General's annual reports until after his gerrymandered election.

We appear to be getting into gutter politics season as we approach elections, playing the man and not the ball. Those who know Nair well, will find such an attack on such a good man, cowardly and despicable. He is someone who feels as comfortable with women as friends as he does with men. He is someone we know as possibly the most non-racist and non-sexist individual in Fiji. It is a delight to know him and to be in his company. His perspective on life is inspiring. His unassuming personality, his common man's touch and his empathy for the vulnerable and disadvantaged are exceptional. Postings like the one from Conrad, whoever she mat be, will not take a good man down. Nair has enormous strength and courage to stand tall even in most trying circumstances. Fiji is not a Dubai, a city of sin and excesses. Perhaps it makes a good home for Conrad. Just stay put.

It took the lady to wait all this while to come out with the allegations. It all sounds and feels very fishy. There is always two sides to a coin. I personally do not believe the women's version in this case. I might be wrong but I feel that she is hiding a lot than revealing. Time is great producer of truth. I know Robin personally and I know that he not someone as portrayed by this lady. The destiny of men is very narrow.

Editor,
Determined Journalist Uncovering Illegal Sand Mining
The 'sand mafia' is fuelling India's $120 billion building boom ( abc 27/5/17). Sand mining is big business in India - but it's also illegal, dangerous, environmental catastrophic and under the control of ruthless criminal gangs.
No single person has done more to uncover the racket involving sand mining in India than the determined journalist Sandhya Ravishankar.
( DW News 22/5 ). Her published reports from tireless research and investigation, including combing government documents, has attracted " blow backs " - threats from vested interests. She is now under police security protection. No amount of threats however has deterred her from her journalistic duty to expose the truth.
She is an inspirational model for courageous journalism. Every country must have its own Sandhya Ravishankar.
( To know more see Illegal sand mining in India make 1,611cr profit every year : Australian film/ Mumbai news/ Hindustan Times April 17/2017) and The Deadly Global War for Sand/ Wired 26/3/2015).
Sincerely,

Editor,
Sharing Good Fortune.
Usually the news from the corporate world is very depressing. It's more often than not about how the rich and powerful try to grab more for themselves, enrich themselves further, ravage the natural environment, capture a disproportionate amount of the world's finite resources to profit themselves and engage in corruption to keep the politicians on side.
But here's corporate news with a solid difference. It's about socially responsible business. We read in Mining Magnate Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest Unveils $400 million Donation to Charities, cancer research. Smh 22/5/17 that this is a record donation from one of Australia's best known philanthropist.
He will be giving away that money from his personal fortune for the betterment of communities.
The donation will be distributed thus :
# $75 m for cancer research
#$50m towards building stronger communities
# $50m for higher education and break through research
#$75m towards giving every child the best chance
#$50m towards creating equality of opportunity amongst all Australians ( bettering opportunities for closing the gap in Indegenous disadvantage).
# $50m towards removing modern slavery from human history.
It would be wonderful if others in business and industry are inspired by Andrew Forrest's sterling example to do more to make a difference in the lives of others in the broader community.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

It is with Sadness I read such allegations. I have known Robin Nair for over 5 years now and he has attended both Fijian and Rotuman functions here in the UAE in his time as Ambassador. I also personally know the many people he has assisted with business, work and personal matters and I have never seen or heard anything inappropriate come from or about the man; in fact just the opposite. He is diplomatic and gentle in nature yet a highly efficient and articulate statesman. I know the latter as I have sat in on meetings with him where he has manoeuvred high level talks with ease. Here in the middle east, that is so important given the short period of time anyone is given at any high level meetings. I think his record speaks for itself with what happened when he helped negotiate the release of the Fiji soldiers or the solar power generators he got for some of the islands in Fiji...that much, no one can take away from him. I have been in the middle east now for 10 years and I have never heard of this Conrad person nor had the privledge of meeting her through the many Fijian functions (but also the other Pacific gatherings at regular rugby matches and functions, embassy openings, and even Australian and New Zealand functions like ANZAC day etc). Therefore I cannot speak for her character and her business dealings with Fiji and selling Fiji products. What I do know is the Ambassador Nair I know is not the man depicted in this story and it is sad if this is indeed fabricated for whatever reason.
