Fijileaks: It is six years since we called on the Legal Practitioners Unit (LPU), which is part of office of the Registrar of the High Court and handles all complains against lawyers, to take the three mentioned lawyers to task for alleged fraudulent conversion of trust and other funds
*Previously, all complains were handled by the Fiji Law Society from whom the powers were taken away when Frank Bainimarama and Aiyaz Khaiyum came to power after the 2006 December Coup.
* Khaiyum had systematically dismantled the Fiji Law Society and even repealed the Fiji Law Society Act because he had, as an unsuccessful lawyer, borne a  long standing grudge against the Society.
* Today, Khaiyum as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, totally controls this office.
*There are over 30 serious complaints against the lawyers of Lal, Patel and Bale (Renee Lal, Raina Lal, and Amani Bale) which relates to alleged fraudulent conversion of trust and other funds
*This goes back more than 6 years and as early as last year complaints of alleged fraudulent conversions ran into millions of dollars
*They continue to practice with impunity.
* Legal Officers in the LPU have lost their jobs without explanation and some are alleged to accept bribes from this law firm and files go missing and cases are not advanced.
*This is now common knowledge but with a culture of forced silence people are too afraid to speak up. 
*The Registrar is either completely corrupt or incompetent just like his officers
* Meanwhile, we are yet to get response on Suresh Chandra file

Fijileaks: Chandra's name is MISSING from the LEGAL PRACTITIONERS LIST,
1 March 2020 - 28 FEBRUARY 2021, so it was wrong of the Comission to state that he is "a legal practitioner by profession", re-appointed as Electoral Commission chairperson on 20 March 2020.
The Independent Legal Services Commission (ILSC) nor the Chief Registrar of the High Court have responded to our questions regarding allegations of the misuse of $2million Trust Fund. The two have not explained why SURESH CHANDRA did not renew his PLC for March 2020-February 2021. We didn't bother to approach the jokers running the Fiji Law Society for comments

Xi says China to continue supporting Fiji's COVID-19 fight

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Fiji have worked together through thick and thin to fight the pandemic, and their friendship and cooperation have continued deepening, says Chinese President Xi Jinping.

BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday that China is ready to continue providing vaccines and other support for Fiji's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a phone conversation with Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Xi said China will set up a China-Pacific Island Countries reserve of emergency supplies, and help Fiji and other island countries improve their ability to cope with major public health incidents and natural disasters.

Pointing out that Fiji was the first Pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with New China, Xi said since the establishment of ties 46 years ago, the China-Fiji relations have developed tremendously, an important experience from which is that the two sides have always been supporting each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns.

China respects Fiji's independent exploration of a development path that suits its national conditions, and is ready to work with Fiji to push the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership continuously to new levels, so as to better benefit the two peoples and jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries, he said.

Xi emphasized that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Fiji have worked together through thick and thin to fight the pandemic, and their friendship and cooperation have continued deepening.
China stands ready to strengthen strategic alignment with Fiji, jointly build the Belt and Road, deepen cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure, transportation and communication, tourism, and other fields, and continue to implement projects including Juncao and agricultural technology cooperation to help Fiji's economic and social development, Xi said.

China will continue supporting Fiji in improving its ability to cope with climate change, he said.

In his message, Bainimarama expressed warm congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, saying that with Xi's foresight and sagacity and under his strong leadership, China has scored great achievements in development and played an important leading role in the world.

He thanked China for providing invaluable support for Fiji's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that Fiji firmly adheres to the one-China policy, takes an objective and fair stand on issues involving Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang, and will not do things that harm China's interests.

Fiji is ready to strengthen exchanges with China, deepen mutually-beneficial cooperation, and strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs, he said.

The joint construction of the Belt and Road has a broad prospect and will bring important opportunities for the Fiji-China cooperation, the Fijian prime minister said, adding that Fiji will continue taking an active part in it.

The Republic of Cappuccino and ROC Market has gathered assistance to support Fiji’s response in tackling the COVID-19 second wave.
 
The owner of the Republic of Cappuccino and ROC Market and Suva Lawyer, Mr. Dilip Jamnadas has initiated a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) consisting of 20 infrared thermometers, 20 set of protective gowns and 500 protective face masks and 50 bottles of hand sanitizers.
 
Mr. Jamnadas said the assistance is provided in appreciation of the Fijian Government’s efforts to contain the COVID-19.
 
“We are pleased that after discussions with the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we were able to have this assistance organised and support our nation during the pandemic.
 
Mr. Jamnadas also acknowledged Fiji’s frontline workers for their tremendous efforts in protecting the lives of Fijian families. He said accessibility to PPEs will assist the health care professionals as they carry out their role in delivering health care services to the nation.  
 
Mr Jamnadas said that a multisectoral support and collaboration is needed at all levels to win the battle against COVID-19.
 
He added that the ROC Market which is a community-based marketing platform aspires to promote Fijian-Made products, crafted items and food.
 
“We remain focused on helping as many people as we can to generate local income streams, further creating support for the local circular economy.
 
“ROC Market is Fiji's longest running street market - a feat we are all super proud of. Ms. Ellana Bickerdike does a great job running and managing this community based market which, helps to support the vendors and their family,” Mr. Jamnadas said.
 
Honourable Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete has thanked Mr. Jamnadas and his team for their generosity and timely assistance. He said a collaborative effort as such is commendable and imperative in overcoming the challenges triggered by COVID-19.

Another victim is now displaying the most virulent strain of Fijian version of Christianity, informing us the Fijian Kalou will hold Qiliho to account. Some claim they have relatives inside Fiji. Oh, yes, so do we, and yet still standing up to the murderers and torturers. Another legal eagle and prominent social media commentator rightly claimed he was blindefolded during his beatings and torture but that should not have deterred him from providing a general statement against Qiliho, for a prominent military officer has identified Qiliho as that torturer that day. Sadly, Fiji is FULL of SLIPPERY SNAKES, always ready to CLIMB up the Political and Economic Ladders at any cost. We are tired of hearing the recycled rubbish:

The salary was (is) 100 times the amount earned by an average worker on the national minimum wage of $2.68 an hour or $5574 per year.
Simpson was also receving an official vehicle and mobile phone as part of his package. An average worker at the LTA earns $21,614 – $25,937. Simpson will be leaving Fiji six months earlier than the date that his contract officially ends. His three years would have come to end in December.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, we do not need a Master’s Degree in Economics, we do not need a PhD in Economics to be an Economy Minister, rather you need intellectual capacity to articulate the long- term path to articulate the national vision of a Government. You need intellectual capacity to reign in all ministries and statutory bodies to remain on the path to a common vision."

Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response. It occurs when hostages or abuse victims bond with their captors or abusers. This psychological connection develops over the course of the days, weeks, months, or even years of captivity or abuse. Frank Bainimarama is already a willing victim to Khaiyum's manipulation of his weaknesses.

HON. DR. M. REDDY.- Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to speak on the motion by Honourable Kuridrani, who is asking that the Standing Committee on Natural Resources undertake a review of the non-sugar sector. I wish to explain why I will not support the motion, why it is not required, why it is a waste of our time and why this motion demonstrates lack of knowledge and understanding of what is happening in the agricultural sector and the economy. Mr. Speaker, Sir, before I do that, I need to explain economic realities because agriculture does not operate on its own, but on economic direction and leadership.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, I wish to respond to the question made by the Honourable Tabuya and Honourable Nawaikula for the Minister for Economy to resign, saying he is not functioning well or he is the Minister for everything. First of all, let me explain how the Ministry of Economy portfolio is very different from the portfolio of a Minister of Finance.

The various ministries undertake and run their ministries as per the budgetary allocation. The Finance Ministry provides an oversight on financial disbursement and management to ensure that books are properly kept.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, where is the collective vision of the Government? Who ensures that all the ministries work in tandem and combine resources for efficient service delivery? Who ensures that all ministries target the common vision of the Government to improve living standards in quality of life, to deliver inter-generational equity on resource evaluation, consumption and quality of life, to invest in soft and hard infrastructure for long term consumption? It is not the Finance Minister who can do that, Mr. Speaker, Sir, but the Minister for Economy. The question is, who then should be the Economy Minister? The person should be the leader of the Party as they formulate the vision which is super-imposed on government vision. It is for this reason that it is only critical that party leaders, the top two, should not only formulate but lead and execute the economic vision of the party and the Government.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, we do not need a Master’s Degree in Economics, we do not need a PhD in Economics to be an Economy Minister, rather you need intellectual capacity to articulate the long- term path to articulate the national vision of a Government. You need intellectual capacity to reign in all ministries and statutory bodies to remain on the path to a common vision. Is the Minister for Economy entrusted with the overall direction of the Government? Ministries and all statutory bodies work in tandem so that the common vision is delivered.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, ability, charisma, skill sets diplomatically liaise with development partners, internal agencies to attract technical and financial resources, is a critical attribute that the person must have. The Honourable Attorney-General and the Minister for Economy has clearly demonstrated time and again his ability and attributes on that front. Who else other than Honourable Attorney- General has these combined skillsets?

HON. L.D. TABUYA.- A Point of Order, Mr. Speaker. I am just waiting to see when he will actually get to his Ministry and the motion. He needs to speak to the motion at hand which is on non-sugar agriculture, not come here and to carry on with this grandstanding. Please, refer to your Ministry and what is the motion, thank you.

HON. DR. M. REDDY.- I will explain.

HON. SPEAKER.- Honourable Minister, you have the floor.

HON. DR. M. REDDY.- Mr. Speaker, Sir, he has deep understanding of the commercial realties and private sector experience. I had the pleasure working under him when I was Chairman of the then Commerce Commission and now FCCC. I too, like some academics and some in the academia, was thinking that a commercial sector functions as articulated in the textbook. But I must say that I learnt a lot from the Honourable Attorney-General on dealing with the commercial sector while I was working under him and I wish to continue to support him while holding this important portfolio as Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, with the Opposition’s personal hatred for Honourable Attorney-General and their obsession with ethnicity, they cannot see these qualities in him. It is a shame. Honourable Tabuya said they can better run the economy and if they are in Government, the economy will be much better. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I was wondering what his magic strategy was. Albeit he slipped last week and revealed our strategy.
When they come into Government, they will establish printers all over Fiji. They will print money, give it out to everyone so people will line up.

FRIENDFIJI steps in as Minister Reddy sucks up to Imbecile Khaiyum

The Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises Development or FRIEND says struggling families in areas from Wainadoi to Logani can now apply for basic grocery assistance.

FRIEND has joined forces with major food delivery service provider, Food Well Fiji to assist the people in the Suva-Nausori containment area.

Director, Sashi Kiran says they know everyone is impacted and the first priority will be given to people dependent on the informal sector and who do not have access to FNPF or social welfare benefits.

Kiran says they received 300 applications for help from the Suva containment area two weeks ago and they discussed with their partners on the ground and decided to support people.

She says they received 800 applications on the first day.

Kiran says they will be assisting people specifically outside the lockdown areas unless they get request from government officials or health teams as they know lockdown areas are high risk areas and they only work with government officials if their services are required.

She says they are glad that containment and lockdown areas are covered by the Ministry of Economy.

Kiran says they are still getting a lot of applications from Nadi

and has reiterated that the criteria is strict and not everybody qualifies for assistance. She says people on social support and FNPF assistance do not qualify for the assistance and only those who are extremely poor and are in informal settlements with no other benefits are the ones qualifying.

They are also coordinating with a few of other NGOs to avoid double dipping.

Kiran also highlights that for the first time in their two decades of organizational history, they have had outpouring of donations from people.

She adds businessman, William Parkinson from Parkinson Foundation has donated for the Suva Containment Zone and the rest of the money for this zone is coming through citizen donations.

FRIEND has assisted around 40,000 people with basic food items, seeds and seedlings as well as baby and disability support items since the second wave of COVID-19 cases earlier this year.

Founder and President, Mainaz Nazrin Ali says they came up with the idea to provide sanitary items to families in Nawaka after reading a post that women and girls are using old socks, newspapers, towels and rags as sanitary pads.

Ali says they have also received 40 requests for baby items from needy mothers and they have got donations from the staff of HFC Bank in Nadi and items will be distributed tomorrow.
