30 YEARS AGO, 14 May 1987: Fiji saw the birth of coup culture and the face of a RACIST called SITIVENI RABUKA who, thirty years later, is still blaming others for the violence, looting, and racism against Indo-Fijians

Fijileaks: He is a snake who is trying to charm his way into power by  blaming the violence and brutality against Indo-Fijians on a group of selfish persons: "I pray that God Almighty will grant all those hurting the grace to forgive me. To you I say, I am sorry"; "Many of them have been dealt with according to law," he says about the "mindless minority" while he is hiding behind the sulu of IMMUNITY

Picture

Like 1987, Rabuka is surrounded by many extremist ethno-nationalists in SODELPA, who only have one thing in common - INDIGENOUS RIGHTS; all those who have FIJI at heart should be very wary of this snake- Sitiveni Rabuka! SODELPA have chosen him as their leader to appeal to naked native Fijian nationalism, FULL STOP!

Was this High Chief "selfish person", if we are to accept Rabuka's claim?

Picture

Were Rabuka's Fijian soldiers who beat up Dr Anirudh Singh, a group of "selfish persons"? No, they had been recruited by Rabuka to beat Indo-Fijians up, to ensure they complied or fled Fiji in their thousands so that native Fijians could become a majority, and he could ultimately become the Prime Minister of Fiji

FLP leader and former PM, Mahendra Chaudhry said Mr Rabuka had made gains [in recent opinion poll] but needed to redouble his efforts to get within the striking distance [of power in the next election]

1999: FLP, in its quest to capture power, had made it very clear to voters
"We will not be fooled by your lies and crocodile tears, Mr Rabuka":

It's a national disgrace that in nearly 5 decades of independence Fiji has produced only one truely great political leader who genuinely had the welfare of the people and the best interest of a multiracial Fijian democracy at heart.
Now we are scratching the bottom of the barrel to recycle mediocre, self-serving leaders .
A country that held so much promise as a model modern multiracial democracy has come to this.
It's a crying shame.
Cry My Beloved Country.

It is a "Crying Shame" that one day only after Mothers' Day an alleged multiple rapist, defiler and murderer is appearing in the Suva High Court and it has been suggested in evidence that mockery of a rape victim is being perpetrated in open court. Fortunately, a most respected and experienced Judge is presiding. And the Fiji Press is present. This was not so only five or six years ago. Even the overseas media were notably unhelpful when they came in wielding their satellite phones in full view. No concept or idea of the level of fear - terror even - surrounding them. Alleged multiple rapists and defilers of Fijian women, mothers (often through brutal, repetitive rapes) have thrived in Fiji's Cycle of Violence since 1987. All ethnicities have grievously suffered. Suicides and attempted suicides have resulted. The true numbers of the dead driven to suicide will never be known. Cry for them! Pray ceaselessly for them. They surround us all and Pitiless Immunity is an endless and haunting affront to them. For are they not - Each and Everyone - some mother's child?

Editor,
Never Again
If the US claim that the Syrian regime of Basha al Assad has built a crematorium at the Sednaya Prison to cover up mass killings ( Aljazeera 16/5 ) is true than the regime's commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity hacks back to the Nazi era.
And that's not altogether surprising as The Conversation ( academic rigour, journalistic flair ) article Holocaust Memorial Day : What happened to 'Never Again' ( 27/01/2015) reminds us :
"... However loudly we recite the lessons of the Holocaust - " Never Again " - we seem unable to prevent new mass killings : Kosovo, Rwanda, Dafur, Iraq, Syria - the role call of atrocity is depressingly long. INTOLERANCE OF OTHERS UNDERLIES THESE ATROCITIES... ( my emphasis).
We have been the subject of that intolerance of others in Rabuka's racist-fascist coup 30 years ago. We suffered all kinds of atrocities by Rabuka's military and racist thugs ( except mass killings ) and the trauma and scares remain. We must remember that.
That's part of our tortured history in the land of our birth.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Well said Aman Singh. While its sad to see the return of evil Rabuka, a more disgusting situation is when you hear that the battle for the PM's posts is between 2 coup makers. Have we lost all senses? Where have all the good people gone?

Rabuka is a perennial liar. It was he who planned and released high security prisoners from Suva and Naboro prison to march through Suva city under Police and Military escort to delive a petition to the President, raising fear and anxiety in the civilc population. Rabuka started training his soldiers while CO in Sinai to take over Parliament telling them that the Indians wanted to take over Fiji. He is s traitor and a treasonist. He should be tried for crimes against humanity
