In standing up to their military the Turkish people (especially a violent mob) have at last broken with the past and tamed the army -
but at what price?

Where were people of Fiji when 1987, 2000 and 2006 happened? Guess we should learn from Turks how to stop a coup.

In 1987, the itaukei people were presenting their sevusevu to the coup leader at the Army camp !!

Never mind the Fiji dollar would soon face 2 hefty devaluations in 1987 which would affect everyone.

Turkish Islamists have won the day. This is no course for celebration and comparing Fiji and Turkish coups is simplistic and naive.

Yes really there is no course to compare the Fiji coups and Turkish coup. Turkish soldiers had tanks, and helicopters and even jet fighters. What Fijian ladyboy soldiers had was M-16s and K-2 sub-machine guns with some gernade launchers.

If people loved their country they would have confronted both Rabuka and Bainimara with force also.

A coup is is coup there is no two ways about it.

The people of Turkey were responding to a speech from the President who encouraged them to pour into the streets. In Fiji neither the President nor the Prime Minister had the wits or the gall to do that.

Thats because Itaukei nationalists lack the testicular fortitude/Balls to do something like it. In laments terms. They are all SONALEVU!! And will be forever.

Flooding the streets with supporters for a political end as occurred in Turkey is not new in Fiji. Alliance Party activists like Ratu Inoke Kubuabola coordinating with Rabuka in the military camp used mass marches in Lautoka and Suva to legitimise a coup. After the coup Rabuka flooded the streets of prisoners and Taukei Movement thugs to "march" to government house with a petition written by the military to hand to the President and scare innocent citizens into accepting Rabuka and his new 'reality.'
The same modus operendi of mass marches was used as s prelude to the George Speight coup, Having taken over Parliament with the support of a faction of the military nationalist leader Iliesa Djvulico, fearing the military would turn and assisinate he and his supporters publically appealed over radio and TV for the public to flood parliament and thus began the siege at Veiuto, This was when the military faction behind the takeover of parliament lost control and the officer who was supposed to take over from George Speight chickened out.
The Nationalists u refer to who sought political refuge in Australia were pawns and opportunists
The Bainimarama coup had modelled itself after the Turkush coup where a professional secular military is the protector of a secular Democratjc state. With the military leading firebombings, threats and torture of suspects as occurred in Navosa in 2009, the pilfering of Cyclone Winston supplies and the cronyism and nepotism practised by the Khaiyum Bainimarama government professiknalism and secularism left Fiji a long time ago,
