"I hear from recording on Fijivillage about Parmod Chand blaming me for the event of 2000. The little coward. Where was he during the event of 2000? Probably hiding under his bus in Labasa. We never heard a squeak from him when the parliament group under Ratu Naiqama took over the camp and ransacked Labasa town. Now he has the guts and the courage and is yelling from the rooftops. In ‎2000-2006, never a squeak from him when the SDL Government came up with those racist policies. No words of encouragement for the Indo-Fijians. Now all of a sudden he's screaming from the top of his bus. But seriously who gave him the courage to do all this screaming? Its very simple. It's the security environment I and the military and the constitution he's now attacking, we gave him that courage, what little he lacks, and of course the confidence to now talk and harp. And he is not to forget that. Never! He's now acting like the big brave boy to the Indo-Fijian community because he wants their vote. The Indo-Fijians should not believe him. He didn't protect the Indo-Fijians in the event of 2000. I did with the military. He didn't protect the Indo-Fijians when those racist decrees were going to be implemented by the Qarase Government. I and the military did. So really, he should shut up!"

Where were you during the horrific events of 2000 and in 2006 when a number of racist policies were being pushed through?

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has raised the question to NFP parliamentarian Parmod Chand after Chand blamed Bainimarama for the 2000 coup.
Chand had said in parliament that it was Bainimarama’s fault.

[Transcription] - "May I remind this house that in 2000, the honorable Prime Minister was the leader of the military forces. He could not control his guns. He is to be blamed for the 2000 coup, not the people."

Speaking to Fijivillage from Montreal late last night, Bainimarama said that Parmod Chand did nothing when Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and others took over the military barracks in 2000 and also victimised a number of Indo Fijian families.

Ratu Naiqama was handed a 8 month prison sentence for illegal assembly relating to the takeover of the military barracks in Labasa in 2000.

He was released after only 11 days of his 8‑month sentence as there was an approval that he could serve his sentence outside.

The Prime Minister who was out of the country when George Speight and others took over parliament on May 19th, 2000, said nothing was done by the NFP parliamentarian again when the racist policies were being brought up in 2006.

No words of encouragement for the Indo-Fijians. Now all of a sudden he's screaming from the top of his bus."

Bainimarama said that it was him as Army Commander and then as Prime Minister with the military and now with the constitution, that brought back stability to Fiji.

He said that Chand had no part to play in this.

Aiyaz Khaiyum on the horrors of George Speight's failed coup in 2000 born out of obsession with ethnicity:
“But, Madam Speaker, look what happened in 2000 and again I am saying this, and I caution everybody…because it did happen and people don’t want to talk about it. When the Government was held captive for 56 days or 54 days…, in Veiuto,  people in Muaniweni were attacked, people in Vanua Levu were attacked, women were raped and they had cassava shoved up their vaginas. That’s the kind of issues that were taking place. We had women in Vanua Levu and you know what ethnic group they were, they were asked to strip naked and parade in front of people and go and cook over the fire. That’s what happened Madam Speaker."

So coupist Bainimarama wants us to believe that he did the Indo-Fijians a favour by protecting us with his military mates during the 2000 Speight coup? Wasn't he duty bound as the commander of the Fiji military to do just that? And isn't it a fact that the conduct of the Fiji military was found wanting at the time of that coup?
Incidentally where was Bainimarama, the self proclaimed saviour of the Indo - Fijians, at the time of the racist Rabuka coup of 1987?

Bainimarama should be reminded that his military and he was paid to ensure security and safety of Fijians during 2000 and at all times not Pramod Chand. Instead, they committed and supported coups. Bainimarama was also the one who put qarase as leader that led to the birth of SDL and its racists policies. He could have restored the Chaudhary government but the racist skunk chose to put other racists incharge. You did no favours for anyone bainimarama. You got paid to do a job and you failed miserably and intentionally.

Can Aiyaz Khaiyum tell us about the horrors that were perpetrated on a particular ethnic group in the racist Rabuka coup of 1987 of which Bainimarama was a part?

Bainimarama has no rights to berate Chand for speaking on Khaiyum’s 2013 Constitution of Khaiyum. The FACT that both Bainimarama and Khaiyum MUST come to terms with is that Khaiyum’s 2013 is bereft of most essential of all living (and loved) Constitutions – that being the “WILL of the PEOPLE of Fiji”. Khaiyum’s 2013 lacks the very ‘soul’ of what all Constitutions must have. Khaiyum’s 2013, soul-deprived Constitution has also being IMPOSED onto the PEOPLE of Fiji –just like Rabuka’s 1990 was.

Chand is not a COWARD for speaking out. And as to Bainimarama’s brag about ‘protecting’ Indo-Fijians in 2000 – if he had done that – then the Girmit Center Refugee Camp would not have existed. The victim compensation for these refugees has been blithely ignored by all successive governments including Bainimarama and Khaiyum’s. And Khaiyum today has the chutzpah to mention their sorry plight in Parliament.

Let us remind Bainimarama and Khaiyum of what is a COWARDLY act – is like STEALING from the Poor and the Weak, Is like Bainimarama and Khaiyum shamelessly Stealing their ‘theft’ party name from the party belonging to the Refugees. Ha..!

Khaiyum and Bainimarama -Give your lectures on morality and your bravery and your 2013 to your ‘Theft’ party morons.

Bainimarama is a shameless liar. He wants everybody to believe he did the coup to protect Indians from Qarase's racist policies and to save the country from Qarase's misrule. The real reason for the coup was Bainimarama trying to save himself from losing his job as army commander and the likelihood of ending up in jail .
No amount of lying can hide that fact,

Bainimarama protected the Indians and saved the country following the 2000 Speight coup. He should be honoured with a stature. A fitting likeliness of him in a stature would be the whole scene from the picture ' Baini Drinks While Country Sinks! '

The Doctrine of Necessity: a Principle of Condonation and not Legitimisation? The test is in the use of language and thus the legal consequences. How many have decided to condone the methods applied and have overlooked the fact that the Truth of the Matter has a way of revealing itself even over 17 years. People saw things and were too fearful to speak about them until many years had elapsed. We cannot unsee what our eyes and ears witnessed unless it is too terrible for our minds to process. However, even severe PTSD may dissolve given time, quiet and 'vakacegu'. The testimony of eyewitnesses requires the Light of Day. Condonation demands transformation. The perpetrators of terrible deeds have limited time left to them and the sovereignty argument may no longer hold weight in view of gross human rights abuses, the crimes of murder and rape. Lt General Romeo Dallaire, a Canadian, believes the sovereignty argument is weak when serious violations of the Protection of Civilians can be proven. Peaceful Inhabitants regardless of race, gender, status of citizenship, deserve and must receive protection during conflicts. He was UN Peace Force Commanding Officer in Rwanda 1993/94 when more than 800,000 Rwandans and a few others were brutally massacred in less than two months. The experience changed his entire life. "Shake Hands with the Devil": his memoir for which he received the Elie Wiesel Peace Prize at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Silence in the face of evil is an Eternal Affront to Life.
