Bainimarama to his foot soldiers: "If you do not like what the military is doing then there are two gates at the camp and you can walk out"; GCC is not coming back, and playing race card is dead in Fiji!

"The Prime Minister and Army Commander has told members of the RFMF that racial differences in the country must go out.

While speaking to about 1,200 soldiers at Queen Elizabeth Barracks during the RFMF’s Christmas Church Service, Commodore Bainimarama told the soldiers not to forget the racial differences in 2000, which was one of the darkest times in Fiji.

Commodore Bainimarama said that is why the military had to take over the government and make changes.

He told young soldiers and new recruits that they did not experience the difficult times they faced in 2000 when some soldiers were shot at QEB.

He said some former politicians and chiefs who were members of the Great Council of Chiefs used their chiefly status to call meetings and speak on racial differences.

Commodore Bainimarama said at one time the chiefs and former politicians met in Parliament and they were praising each other.

He said the chiefs mixed their positions with politics and that is why the Great Council of Chiefs was abolished.

Commodore Bainimarama stressed today that the GCC is not coming back although some politicians are still saying it should come back.

He told the soldiers not to be swayed easily by the former army officers who have resigned and are talking from outside opposing the military. The Army Commander said the soldiers should be strong and stay focused in the upcoming elections.

Commodore Bainimarama then sent out a clear message to the soldiers that if they do not like what the military is doing then there are two gates at the camp and they can walk out.

He also told them that when they first joined the Army, a tabua was not presented to them to work in the RFMF as they wanted the job.

Commodore Bainimarama also called on all the members of the RFMF to get a copy of the 2013 constitution and read it as it is written not only in English but in vernacular.

He highlighted that as Fiji is preparing for the 2014 General Elections, one very important non-negotiable in the Constitution is that racial differences must be abolished.

The soldiers had the church service and they then had morning tea." Source: Fijivillage News.

Fijian Soldier

I dont like a lot of what my army boss has done since 2006 takeover but on this issue I stand by him, and will die, for him. As an i-taukei soldier, I agree that RACE has no place in our country - the best person must be allowed to rule all of us. I have one prayer - military, like the chiefs must stay out of politics

I hate all coups and I hate Frank for protecting his $2million Finance Minister Chaudhry until they fell out. But on his speech, I cheer with him - the Fijian brothers must accept the truth - Indo-Fijians have been in their midst since 1879 - and that is a long, long, time!

Yes, and that applies to i-taukeis and their politicians. If you don't like what Frank and his military are doing, then like the Arab world, stand up and fight. If you are just opportunists waiting for election results and are also cowards, then sneak out quietly from the back gates. Its eight years, and you chaps have been hiding behind your privileged gates. And stop blaming Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum for Fiji's mess. Blame yourselves!

This whole thing of old politicians fostering racial discrimination is a red herring. Its just a (false) platform used by Flankie to save his butt and remain in power. Otherwise why no retrospectively charge Rabuka with treason?! The coup in 1987 was the first ever act of racial discrimination causing racial divide. Why should Rabuka be given immunity if Flankie is genuinely trying to remove this discrimination.

James, having an election will not stop the rot. With a tainted and biased electoral process the elections will never be fair. So if we realise that what do we do?

There is nothing wrong but the fact remains that if you had got that project, you would have disappeared from this site, all in the sulu of Frank and Aiyaz, running around Fiji as a big businessman, so stop talking against the regime - you sour mango!

Franks speech shows that there is trouble within. There is dissent in military and frank is exposed, Once he stands in elections he is finished. He is stupid to alienate the chiefs because the kai viti will move with their chiefs. Further, pamphlets and campaigns are going on right now in kai viti villages organizing against frank and educating kai viti on removal of entrenched clauses by frank. Once the news spreads frank is finished.
majority of soldiers sick and tired of politics and want frank and soldier politicians out!!!

FB and his party will win majority of the seats as they will get at least 75% of indian votes and around 50% of fijian votes and almost all the votes of other races.

Soldiers are soldiers for one reason: they are not intelligent enough to do another job. In most countries the military is kept in its place as a institution to be used if there is an external threat. In Fiji the morons have taken control with obvious results.

Have a good Christmas

i think the good sense should prevail...we cannot undo which has happenned....we need to move forward....after election there should be genuine government of national unity....but for sure, frank should not be PM as he cannot rule the goverment on COMMAND....it has to be geniune, mutual understanding with absolute empowerment to the respective Ministers to make decisions in accordance with the rule of the land....Frank has done a good job and i bilieve he should take over the presidency with Aiyaz as his legal advisor...
