BALA 'TARALALA' GOES ON: Lawyer tried to get case heard in 2016 because he will be busy in High Court; now  Bala to be tried in October!

THE Lautoka Magistrates Court has set October 17 as the hearing date for Local Government Minister Parveen Kumar who is charged with one count causing death by dangerous driving.

Mr Kumar's lawyer Shalend Krishna asked for a 2016 date because he was engaged in other High Court proceedings but an official from the Director of Public Prosecutions office said an earlier date was necessary.

Because of the court's busy and set schedule, both parties agreed on October 17. Mr Kumar's charge is related to the death of Teidamu resident Puna Chand in 2013.

What " earlier date "? It's already two years since the commission of the alleged offence. Did the accused person's lawyer learn in law school that justice delayed is justice denied?

Lautoka Court once had a very honourable judge in the person of the late Jayant Prakash. He brought dignity to the justice system and the rule of law and public confidence and respect for the judiciary. I hope with the return to democracy Fiji courts have judges likes that who apply the law without fear or favour .
