In 1977 the NFP won the election but Tok an inordinate amount of time to settle on a nomination for Prime Minister to take to the Governor General for official sanction. When the nominee, S.M. Koya rocked up to Government House he was shocked to be informed that Ratu Mara had been appointed to lead a minority government. A strong faction within the party led by Jai Ram Reddy were concerned about the reaction of the so-called "deep state" - the military, police, prisons, influential chiefs, Church leaders, etc - the support apparatik of the Govt system - to the appointment of Fiji's first Indian Prime Minister. Mage daughter Chaudhry had scoffed at NFP, but learned from it and found a puppet leader in Bavadra to launch his Labour Party in alliance with trade unionists and USP academics. In 1987 the "deep state" found a weak link in Rabuka to carry out a coup against what they saw as an Indian dominated Govt. The coup absolved the NFP and a decade later when Chaudhry won the election against Rabuka and Jai Ram Reddy Reddy the deep state! In reality the Fiji military working through civilians in 2002 organised the George Speight coup to remove Chaudhry from power. Bainimarama lurking in the background himself did a coup against Feorge Speight as a key ally the Nationalists had established a mob in Veiuto and gotten out of hand . Since coming into power Bainimarama, his military cohorts and civilian collaborators like Khaiyum, the two Shameem sisters, etc have watered down the Fiji deep state through droconian decrees and lackey appointments but the deep state still exists.

If only the Fake News might apply to the latest statistics of Serious Sexual Offences for month of May 2017 issued by Office of Director of Public Prosecutions. 231 Fijians were charged with 522 separate offences. Sixteen of the alleged perpetrators were UNDER 18 years of age. The youngest victims of rape or sexual assault including incest : 1yr 10 months and 1 yr 11 months. What can such statistics be termed? Depravity, moral degradation. There is no place now in Fiji for 'TABU' concerning matters of a sexual nature. These crimes are a tsunami destroying Fiji's Future. How many hidden crimes remain? Home invasions in the past ten years have featured rapes, sexual humiliation of elderly females of ALL ethnic groups. Too frail or fragile to seek assistance from Fiji Police or even to attend hospital. They have been too ashamed or unwilling to be exposed to public view in lengthy and humiliating exhibition in the courts. Sometimes their assailants were permitted to escape overseas due to gaps in Police and Court procedures. The UN Convention on the Duty to Protect is quite clear on the exigency to prevent such crimes.
