After doing some acting with his playwright mate Larry Thomas ( who he recruited as an electoral commission member ) Aiyaz Khaiyum wanted to show off his acting skill in the " new parliament " as a funny man. His chamchas found him funny - predictably! But right thinking people of Fiji saw Khaiyum give form to his true character - that of a mediocre man, a murali Lal pretending to be a hero.

You are wrong Chodri (as usual).

Micky bole, Khaiyum bolo (action maar ke) ki Ratu Isoa Monkey baito! See the difference?

Khaiyum acted like a Monkey, very condescendingly towards Ratu Isoa. That is obvious to all.

Khaiyum was making an important Point (acting like a Monkey) and demonstrating that Point (by acting like a Monkey) conveying to the House (and Youtube) that Khaiyum THINKS that Ratu Isoa is a Monkey.

Khaiyum in a moment of blind, arrogant, fury, acted as a Monkey, towards Ratu Isoa - and in process exposed for all to see - Khaiyum’s strong, (inner-most, deep-seated), Perceptions and feelings of dislike and prejudice towards Ratu Isoa’s Voice or awkwardness or backwardness – which in Khaiyum’s Perception is akin to Ratu Isoa being a Monkey – and was forcefully demonstrated by Khaiyum’s Monkey act.

All this is pretty plain sailing (seeing is believing) but where the matters get more complex is when we take this discourse to another level of abstraction – by this question.

Is Khaiyum’s very well demonstrated (acted) Perception of Ratu Isoa being a Monkey is only directed to Ratu Isoa as an individual Monkey or does Khaiyum further thinks that Ratu Isoa belongs to and is a Chief of -a Community of Monkeys???

Kaise Baath Chodri…Micky Ka Bole?

Since teaming up with coupist Bainimarama, Khaiyum has been projecting himself as an anti- colonialism crusader, wanting to " reform" so called " archaic colonial laws " and colonial institutions etc But he is clearly a man who has internalised the worst facet of colonialism - racism - very well. Khaiyum has acted the part of a white colonial racist with his monkey act. Shame on him! Shame on Fiji to allow such a man to be acting PM!

Actually, this is a worse case of racism than have previously been uttered in Fiji's parliamentary history.

Bula (Malo) Soleh,

Obviously in Samoa you don't suffer this type of politics.

But for the worst cases of racism in recorded Fijian history?

....well you have to go back to the canefields of colonial Fiji, then to the utterances of Sakiasi Butadroka in the 1970's, then of course we had the racist coups of 1987 led by Rabuka and the one by George Speight in 2000. These ones takes the cake as far as overt racism is concerned.

Someone wanted to know if there is anything independent in Fiji anymore? Yes there is : The Speaker ! To name one. There are others like the Chief Justice, the Army Commander, the Police Commissioner, the chairman of the constitutional offices commission, FICAC , the chair of the electoral commision, the boss of FRU, the top dogs in PSC, last but not least The Fiji Sun !,
Yes they are all, all " independent " gang !

Chiku. Maybe they're independent in what they do, but they're very much dependent on the votes of the people, and tax dollars by filling their pockets with more than they deserve.

But the AG insults the monkeys by trying to emulate them because monkeys are not racists.

Aiyaz's monkey act had more to do with a display of the ARROGANCE OF POWER than with racism. I know Aiyaz was once a very humble bloke. Today humibleness and humility are qualities you can't associate with Aiyaz. That's what power can do to a man, especially power that gets into ones head.Aiyaz is a victim of TOO MUCH power. That's why he acts the way he does.

Sakeasi Butadroka's utterances at the time were covered by Parliamentary privilege at the time which do not exist in today's Parliament as pointed out by Ratu Isoa Tikoca. But when he repeated his utterances outside of Parliament he was arrested and charged under the Public Order Act and jailed. Rabuka's coup is different, He was an opportunist who used race to fulfill for what he believed was his preordained role to lead the Military and Fiji. Thus he claimed that God spoke to him. Now Khaiyum is the acting PM responsible for embodying the integrity of the state and its institutions, Moreover, as Finance Minister delivering the annual budget his prime role is to institl confidence in the financial sector and the economy to ensure there are no hindrance to their smooth workings, But because of his pettiness and narcicissm he could not resist the primodial urge to hit back at his nemisis Ratu Isoa in the msot hurtful manner possible. The resulting alarm and disgust caused by his actions amongst Fiji citizen of all races and beliefs as well as potential investors will cause people to hold back on their investment plans fearing that conditions will deteriorate in Fiji, I hope you can see beyond your nose Ratu Vili to appreciate the bigger picture

I agree with everything you say about Buta and Rambo etc.

Yes, Rambo did tell us the God visited him at his tavioka patch in QEB one afternoon as he was weeding.

But back to the point at issue - ASK vs Tikoca in parliament.

As for ASK's 'primordial urge' ....wow.....!

and as for ASK's Darth Vader act in Parliament as part of a robust debate, holding back investment ...wow....!

You are drawing a very long bow here Ratu.

This issue is not just about Khaiyum and Ratu Isoa as you believe. Its a bigger issue which is what I am trying to say. We are dealing with the actions of the acting Prime Minister and Minister of Finance officiating in a House of Representatives of the people. Surely higher levels of accountability and propriety are at play here. If Khaiyum were to repeat that gesture to a dark skin native at a sports event anywhere in the world he would have been ejected and banned from the venue. But when u make the former President of your party the Speaker, of course, objective decisiion-making goes out the window.

" Surely higher levels of accountability and propriety are at play here"

Ratu, well I have to concede on that point.SK could have conducted himself better in that instance. But in the cut and thrust on the floor of politics where emotions are running high, especially with the grunting and swearing from the Opposition, you would think that the Government side would respond at the same level.

What I am saying Ratu, is these things cuts both ways. If you demand respect, then you have to deserve it.

Just coz Tikoca is i'taukei does not mean that he is entitled to be treated with kid gloves as an MP. People voted him into parliament to debate issues in a contestable environment. That is the nature of democratic politics.

Now you guys are demanding, that in the cut and thrust of democratic politics a persons ethnicity should determine how we should conduct the debate. Really???

I thought Parliament is where we debate issues and score political points.

If ASK adopts the Darth Vader pose, then the problem lies with Tikoca for being so obstructionist - the Opposition under his advice as Whip have adopted the Boycott strategy.

Sometimes I do think that they (Opposition) have brought all this upon themselves with a blinkered approach that is costing them in the eyes of the voting public.

Personally Ratu, I think the Marama Bale RTD should stand aside. Same too with her team of Tikoca, Micky 'Bad Dose' and Laufitu etc. Lets get some new blood in to elevate the level of debate above the current 'vutu sona' level.

khaiyum is an intelligen man. he was not imitating anything from star wars but merely testing the waters how far he could pile insult to the native Fijians. it this was in the USA, there would already be racial riots. next time, he probably will throw a banana at the opposition.

The Opposition should have a safety helmet day.

All the Opposition MPs should come wearing bright yellow safety helmets to Parliament at their next sitting - in fear, just in case, Khaiyum throws bananas at them, next.

Imagine Hon. Members on one side of the House, sittings solemnly in their suits, adorning bright yellow, safety helmets – It would make such a cool picture of a peaceful and smart PROTEST (against Racism) - which would definitely get World attention.

Rajen naidoo standing up for ASK.
ASK was a racists bomb maker in 1987 and remains a racist to date.
All his actions against Itaukei institutions proves he is a racist.
ASK can call us any names as he has the guns on his side.
Just wait when the tide changes and we Itaukei wakeup.

If someone has " the guns on his side " as ASK clearly has then does he not have POWER on his side to do and say whatever he likes knowing " the guns on his side "?
That is where ASK is coming from in contemporary Fiji politics.
If you can't get that I can't help you.

Such an Insult to the country and the most honourable house in the government of Fiji from the acting PM himself.

An insult to all Fijians and especially the iTaukei Community. I don't know what those FOOLS iTaukei in the same side of the house are doing. They should move a vote of no confidence in the acting PM.

They are worried they might loose their seats and heavy pay packet I suppose. So SAD indeed, to see what is happening.

If it was an insult to "all Fijians" (as you put it), then why were those on the Government benches including i'taukei members laughing their heads off at ASKS's 'Darth Vader' act?

Are we missing something?

Or are you, like Tikoca, imagining things?

...becos the itaukei on the govt side are masi polos, that's pretty plain - and vili you are one boring sod. A sad apologist for a pathetic racist pig.

And YES, the Monkey Act was an INSULT to all thinking Fijians - Indo-Fijians and Itaukei.

Vili, the only why those in the government were laughing because they are:

1. Masi Polo
2. Fool as ASK himself
3. they fear if they don't support him and react in that way they might loose their seats.
4. they are remote controlled by ASK himself.

Your education and reasoning ability if flawed my bro. When u put up the following comment "Just coz Tikoca is i'taukei does not mean that he is entitled to be treated with kid gloves as an MP" this is what is referred to as "creating a strawman" that you then proceed to cruicify. Its a strawman of your own creation, a figment of your mind bro. No taukei in Parliament I believe thinks that he should be treated differently merely as he is taukei. ASK and you Ratu Vili should see the issue of one member treating another with respect. The debate u refer to is not a free for all. It is governed by rules with the Speaker being the ring master. If ASK has a problem he should have referred to the Speaker for a ruling. As acting PM he needs to set an example which he failed so misreably because of his own deepseated bias, elitism and racism
