BREAST CANCER survivor Kyoko Bandy: "I accepted DEATH" but she has survived to tell her tale. Sadly, she is the same gentle soul who was so rudely 'back slapped' to the ground by FFP Minister Inia Seruiratu

This is the Japanese lady who was so rudely 'back-slapped' to the ground by Colonel Inia Seruiratu in Labasa. He was then Commissioner Northern following the 2006 coup, and is now FFP Minister responsible for CLIMATE CHANGE, and was recently captured on TV hectoring the Opposition in Parliament. We had been contacted by various sources to assist her following the unprovoked assault by Seruiratu, who was not supposed to "benefit from the coup". With the State of Emergency in force, and the location where the Bandys lived - Udu Point- we had no choice but to advise her to lie low as possible without reporting Seruiratu who, after all, was not only a military man but was Commissioner Northern. But as Dr Martin Luther King delivered this resonant line, 'The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice'.

And that applies to another former violent military strongman SITIVENI RABUKA who started it all, with his two coups in 1987. Unlike his victims, he conferred immunity on himself and his coupists in the 1990 Constitution of Fiji imposed by Decree. During the negotiations for the 1997 Constitution when Rabuka was Prime Minister, that immunity, as a trade-off, was transferred to the 1997 Constitution, and is still in place in the 2013 Constitution. Even the IMMUNITY provision was retained by the Draft 'Ghai Constitution'. The IMMUNITY covers all those who ran and propped up the
Rabuka and Bainimarama coups

GOD BLESS KYOYO BANDY

From the Fiji Times, 20 October 2017: "I ACCEPTED DEATH"

DEATH stared her in the face after doctors at Labasa Hospital diagnosed her with breast cancer last year.

American Kyoko Bandy, who is also a Fiji citizen, had a mastectomy surgery last year on her left breast but her choice to eat right, live a healthy lifestyle and be positive empowered her to overcome obstacles.

"I woke up one morning and my nipple on the left breast had sunk and I was horrified, so I went to the emergency department at the hospital," she said.

"So they carried out a biopsy test and a few weeks later called me in and informed that test results were positive and I had cancer.

"I was facing death and I realised that it's not an easy thing to experience in life. I had stage three cancer but I learnt to accept it.

"I will be 73 years old in December and I looked at my past life and I have been doing spiritual growth and getting stronger within myself so I accepted death."

Knowing that she had lived a fruitful life was a reassurance of living a good life, one enjoyed with family and friends.

Mrs Bandy then accepted that death was everyone's final destination from Earth.

"Looking back at what I have gone through in life, I now consider myself fortunate to have had the cancer scare because I woke up fearing death and death was right there," she said.

"But after looking back at my life and what I have done, I feel good.

"Thank God I have been my own nutritionist for many years, being strict on what we eat at home because my husband is diabetic."

So every morning, Mrs Bandy, has her herbal treatment and drink of garlic, ginger, turmeric, honey and half teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water.

She does not eat white bread, white flour or any junk food.

"These are deadly cancer food so we need to educate ourselves about the type of food to eat and this is very important," Mrs Bandy said.

"I also don't take medication from hospitals but herbal medicine like coboi tea, melon seeds, almonds, berry juice and I have just been very strict on my diet for many years which I feel helped me recover so quickly."

Anyone who meets Mrs Bandy would never guess she had cancer because she attends to daily duties in Labasa Town like any other normal person.

"I still drive and do my business at Also Island in Udu Point and life is normal but I have been told by doctors to have a review every three months," she said.

"GOD looks into a man's heart" Seruiratu screams but where did GOD say to man, "Go forth, and rudely back slap a WOMAN to the ground?"

In 2012, Mahendra Chaudhry had demanded that there be no IMMUNITY in the proposed new Constitution and those involved with staging coups in Fiji should have a life ban from holding public office imposed on them. "They’ve been responsible for the upheaval that has taken place in the country since 1987, they have staged all the coups that have taken place since 1987. We feel that there should not be immunity given to perpetrators of the coups, we also of the view that these people should be barred for life from holding any public office."
He was referring to Bainimarama and Rabuka. But what changed when he and coupist Rabuka were seen to be forging a new political alliance?

And we have one Faiyaaz talking about people in the Bainimarama government needing to display very high standard as justification for the removal of Namita Khatri as High Commissioner.
Well, where was the display of very high standard by this Colonel thug?

There is nothing whatsoever untoward in what is reported to have been said. Far more significant issues to handle unless of course there is an ignoble, covert and misogynistic agenda to pursue? Which happens consistently and determinedly in Fiji aided and abetted by women themselves who benefit often ashamedly at others' expense: taxpayers' expense. The Khatris are personally known to be an honorable family of their word. Their word has been their bond. Too bad that the 'My word is my bond' has so little value in today's Fiji. Trust and Honour in flight.

I cry for my beloved country when I see thugs like this colonel become a government minister and rub shoulders with international figures.
What a crying shame!

Editor,
Presidential Liar
When two former US presidents, Bush and Obama, condemn the current president Trump of lying and distorting the truth it's hard to dismiss that as anti- Trump propaganda.
But we know from our own coup experience that it is not uncommon for people in positions of power to lie and distort the truth to serve their political agenda and special interest.
Many examples are available from Fijileaks documentation.
Sincerely,

Editor,
Mission to Stay in Power
Speaking to a forum held by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies the US CIA chief Mike Pomeo stressed that US policy was to " diplomatically and economically challenge the North Korean regime " to convince Kim to pull back on its emerging nuclear threat to the US.
Describing the North Korean strong man as a rational actor he said "Kim Jong-Uns mission is just to stay in power".( Yahoo! 7 News 20/10).
That mission of the North Korean dictator is hardly surprising.
Tin-pot dictators of small banana republics have that mission : to just stay in power.
But whether they stay or go often depends on the CIA.
" The US agency has a dark history of involvement in plots to overthrow or eliminate leaders in countries like Iran, Iraq,Cuba, Congo, Vietnam and Chile".
They also have a dubious history of propping up rogue leaders...

Editor,
Press Freedom A Cornerstone of American Democracy.
The White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders effectively told a reporter that it was wrong to question a 4 star general at Friday's press briefing when she took questions about dramatise and controversial remarks by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on Thursday when he lashed out at a Democratic Congresswoman over the president's call to an Army widow . ( read more in ' Don't Question The Generals, White House Press Secretary says ' Newsweek 20/10/17 ).
When Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, himself a retired US military colonel, was asked if he agreed with the media being curbed from asking questions of generals he replied, " No, not in America".
He couldn't have been more succinct.
Press freedom is a defining foundation of American democracy.
It keeps those in power in check by shining the spotlight on their conduct.
It's that quality of the press in the US that saw the impeachment of a president who had gone astray.
Not questioning the generals is a press phenomenon associated with military dictatorships and authoritarian regimes where the generals can play God with impunity.

Editor,
Everyone Equal Before The Law.
That's how the rule of law is meant to be applied in a democracy.
Here's an example of that.
Masterchef Judge George Calombaris lost his cool when he was heckled at A-League soccer grand final and shoved a teenager . He was charged with assault ,
Now a Sydney magistrate has handed down the sentence. He has recorded a conviction over the assault and Calombaris has been fined $1000 ( news.com.au 20/10).
His celebrity status as Masterchef judge did not give Calombaris any special standing before the law.
That is as should be in a democracy.
But that is not always the case in some countries claiming to be a "true democracy " and all that.
Again, Fijileaks has provided us some notable examples of that.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
Making A Political Career on The Back of The Ordinary People
Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum " takes a swipe at politicians " ( Fiji Times 22/10 ) who were part of the Fiji Trade Union Congress march for the protection of workers rights in Suva yesterday saying " these were people trying to revive their political careers ".
What Aiyaz is saying might be true. But atleast these people, if they are indeed trying to resurrect their political careers, are doing so in a legitimate way.
The same can't be said of some people who have overnight made a lucrative political career for themselves.

Rogue Ruler Appointed ' Goodwill Ambassador '
Robert Mugabe the ruthless, power hungry megalomaniac whose name has for decades been associated with bad things happening to the people of Zimbabwe generally and pro-democracy activists in particular, has now in the perverse " wisdom " of WHO, a reputable international organisation, been appointed a " goodwill ambassador".
Can you beat that for arseness at the international level?
What a cruel Kafkaesque joke appointing a tyrant as " goodwill ambassador "!
I hope I wake up in the morning and discover this was just a bad dream.
Sincerely,

The WHO naming Robert Mugabe goodwill Ambassador underlies the corruption and irrelevance of the United Nations system. That useless body, the Human Rights Commission in Geneva is another joke. It has dictatorships like Saudi Arabia represented on its highest Committee when only recently Saudi Arabia allowed women the right to hold a driving licence.

Two things should happen with regard to the WHO appointment of Mugabe as goodwill ambassador.
1. There should be a formal investigation into the people who made the appointment and why.
2. The World Health Organisation people who made the appointment should be referred to a Medical Board to assess their mental health.
