BULLSEYE: Echoing Fijileaks, SODELPA finally questions: 'Why political parties have to be required by law to publish their audited accounts and source of funds in a newspaper' - meaning only in FFP regime's Fiji Sun

6/3/2021

On 28 January 2021, Fijileaks had asked the following:
How much did the Elections Office pay Khaiyum's Fiji Sun to publish the donor party lists, which was on sale for only
ONE day. We repeat: Load the entire donation lists on Fiji Elections Office Website so all and sundry, including registered voters, can access the names of all donors.
Fijileaks: Can anyone remember the day, date, and the month Fiji Sun published the donor lists?

SODELPA General Secretary Emele Duituturaga has questioned why political parties have to be required by law to publish their audited accounts and source of funds in a newspaper.

She says if the objective is transparency and accountability, this information can be published on the party’s website and the website of the Fijian Elections Office.

Duituturaga says she asked her team, what is the percentage of internet penetration in the country and at a minimum, it is 66%.

She says she also asked about the circulation of The Fiji Times and she understands the latest figures are not available but the last figure was 72,000 readers.

Duituturaga also says it is an expensive exercise. Source: FijiVillage News, 6 March 2021
