THE appointment of Ajay Nand as Fiji's new Auditor General has been welcomed by the Citizens' Constitutional Forum (CCF).

A statement by CCF reported that it looked forward to working with the Auditor General in tabling the Auditor General?s Report in Parliament from 2014 until last year.

"Through our Open Budget Survey, CCF has established that the Office of the Auditor General have published the audit reports only up to 2013," it stated.

"On the other hand, the Parliament of Fiji website has published the Auditor General's Report of Government commercial companies, statutory authorities and municipal councils.

"It is the constitutional rights of every Fijian to know whether public sector agencies have used public funds for the purposes they have been appropriated and in accordance with legislation and financial management regulations or whether there have been cases of mismanagement or ineptitude that has to be addressed." Really Mr Nand?

Mr Ajay Nand was also on the Council of the FNU and on its Audit Commitee for years as a nominee of the Fiji Institute of Accountants and his then employer FNPF.

Just one question - how come he could not find any anomalies in FNU's financials, detect the unlawful payments made for Bole's overseas medical treatment and the massive EU fraud committed by the then VC Ganesh Chand, Chand's NZ Director of Finance and the Ian Rouse???????

I have worked with him during my time at the OAG and I can say he is best suited to the position if he doesn't allow kaiyum & co to dictate terms to him. He knows how the government machinery works and is skilful auditor. Only worry is that he may become the yes men for the government because of his close association with ajit kodagoda( kaiyums lapdog)

@Tomasi's glowing testimony about Mr Chand sounds good but the reality is Nand already has become the Yes man for ASK. That's the MQR for for anyone who wants to work for this chor government.

No professional Accountant, bound his ethical code of conduct and morality would take up the role of OAG given this government's track record of financial management, corruption, abuse of public power and the like. And not to mention that they not only refused to release the previous AG's report before the 2014 elections, but tossed his subsequent reports and recommendations in the garbage bin. And mind you, that was an iTuakei auditor general.

Its clear that Nand has sold his soul to ASK to simply get the office that he always aspired but could not get on the merits.

And if the comments of @Really Mr Nand is something to go buy, its more worrying for Fiji. If Nand could detect the massive fraud and irregularities at FNU based on his so proclaimed professional competence and auditing excellence, how would be in any position to scrutinise the books of such a belligerent government???

Another Accountant SOLD to the government!!
