STATEMENT
[110/Nov30/ 2015]

Ro Teimumu Kepa says the Fiji First government is either clueless on crucial matters of national security or complicit because they are party to these stage managed threats.

Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa said in a statement today that Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho should be removed from office immediately following his response to a suicide bomb threat by a local man apparently directed against the Opposition.

Ro Teimumu said in an age when suicide bombing and terror attacks are a global threat it was totally unacceptable and bizarre for the Acting Commissioner to say he would wait for a complaint from me before investigating the threat.

“Where else in the world would the head of a police service make such an irresponsible statement? Brigadier General Qiliho is clearly unsuited for his position and should be sacked.”

“His response as reported in the media today was tainted with hypocrisy. Here we have a ‘direct threat’ from someone who is a former teacher who is known to the Fiji First government and the Acting Commissioner. This individual has stated publicly he could act as a ‘suicide bomber’ and even make a bomb to destroy people in the Opposition.”

“Obviously he is a threat to the public and should be investigated immediately. The public should be given information about the outcome of such an investigation.”

“The Acting Commissioner’s initial response was to tell people to ‘control their emotions’ because it creates unnecessary fear. He adds there could be an effect on the economy and he would wait until I make a formal complaint before investigating it? What dangerous nonsense!”

Ro Teimumu said this response to a ‘direct bomb threat’ against the Opposition by an individual with known links to Fiji First and who may have been a teacher and is known to the Acting Commission raises the question of motive.

“It is almost like the second part of a story that started with the supposed ‘plot to assassinate’ members of parliament including some in the opposition that was uncovered in the West.

“Do they seriously expect us to believe that the ‘the evil plotters’ of such a horrific crime, in which some 20 plus members of parliament would be killed would take the details of their crime into a public Internet café, communicate their heavily coded information with each other, only to then leave the scene with their email still open with all of their secret plans left for the world to see?

For reporting this to the military not the police, the owner gets picked up and beaten?”

“The Acting Commissioner comes out strongly against the ‘plot’ even though we still don’t know if it is a genuine or ‘staged’ one. And here we are with a report of a direct threat of a suicide bomb from a citizen deranged or otherwise and the Commissioner will only act if I lodge a complaint?

“The Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu, adds more confusion to the picture when he is quoted in an overseas media report as saying there could be more assassination plots around but this does not worry him.

“This indicates that the Fiji First government is either clueless on crucial matters of national security or complicit because they are party to these stage managed threats. “I hope the people wake up and recognize the ineptitude and incompetence of this government.”

Fijileaks: In one of his many postings Kumaar claimed that Qiliho was his protector at the military barracks; again, Qiliho is like the Fox guarding the Hen House; remember Qiliho - he had threatened to kill deposed Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase if he (Qarase) attempted to return to Suva from his enforced exile on Mavana Island following the coup:
"(3) That I [Qarase] also received a phone call on 28.8.07, in which a person who identified himself as calling from the Fiji Military Forces Camp threatened that I would be killed on arrival, if I returned to Suva."

"Since when did the military become a remand center?" "Commander of the Navy Francis Kean, Bainimarama's brother-in-law, was charged with murder January 19, in connection with the death December 30 of John Whippy at the Suva Yacht Club. The incident followed the wedding reception of Bainimarama's daughter. Kean's lawyer requested that Kean be placed in the custody of the military, stating that Kean's life might be in danger if he was jailed at Korovou prison, where several soldiers involved in the 2000 mutiny are reportedly imprisoned. The judge did not buy that argument, reportedly stating, "Since when did the military become a remand center?" He ordered Kean jailed until his hearing February 2. Lt. Commander James Fisher will reportedly be acting Naval Commander in Kean's absence. The previous Deputy Naval Commander resigned his commission over the coup" - The former US Ambassador Larry Dinger, Wikileaks

Instead of going to the media first, why dosen't Mrs Kepa lodge a report at the nearest Police station?

Isn't that the process that the average Joe or Mere or Vinod has to follow to get the Police to launch an investigation?

Given the rubbish postings on social media, we cant expect the Police to monitor every posting and investigate every one of them. To do so would be like Don Quixote charging at every windmill.

Mrs Kepa is once again engaging in political grandstanding. In the same way she did when she went and paid homage to George Speight and his mob in the parliamentary complex in 2000.

Mrs. Kepa did the right thing by drawing Com Pol's attention to the threats. Its now on Com Pol to do its work. One dont need a murder to be reported by someone to a station before police takes action. If police sees a murder being done or a crime being committed, then it is duty bound to take action. I am not a Sodelpa supporter or kepa supporter. Truth needs to be stated.

This man's claim that "they" offered him $100,000 is an electoral crime. Who offered? This should also be investigated by Elections office and police. They must not wait till someone reports.

This is the Police Commissioner giving proof that he is an unfit person to be Police Chief. Many said that when he was hand picked by the erstwhile military dictator Bainimarama and installed in that position by passing career police officers.
This military man masquerading as police chief is there to do the bidding of Bainimarama and Khaiyum. Not Ro Teimumu Kepa. She is not important as far as he is concerned. We all know that, don't we?

Editor,
We read in Bloomberg Business news 30/11 in the article ' The Dictator's Daughter and a $2 Billion Tale of Greed and Graft ' that even in post Soviet Uzbekistan , an ancient crossroads where torture and bribery allegations are endemic, Gilnara Karimova, the president's Harvard educated daughter stood out for her ruthlessness.
As the US embassy noted in a secret dispatch from 2005 that was later published by Wikileaks, Karimova was viewed by most Uzbeks "as a greedy, power- hungry individual who uses her father to crush business people or anyone else who stands in her way "
Sounds familiar?
That is the standard manner in which dictator's daughters and sons and wives behave. They all enrich themselves whilst the father hangs onto power as the dictator.
We have witnessed that in our own relatively small way during the dictatorship in Fiji.
But the Karimova case takes corruption and abuse in a dictatorship to a level small time dictators and their family can only imagine!
Another very significant point to note is that just because some one has received good education as Karimova and Saif Gaddafi had received it does not mean they will be any less corrupt and ruthless when they have unfettered power.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

So true. Just compare tinpot dictator Bainimarama wife Mary to mega dictator Marcos' wife Imelda ! For all the trappings of corruption that has come her way, she still looks like a destitute in front of Imelda Marcos.

Isn't the threat of suicide bombing a threat to national security? Alas they choose and pick when it is considered a national threat...the dick heads. Why wait for a report when they can go and interview the culprit for the threats being issued?

FFP knows it is getting very unpopular and it is looking for ways to draw public sympathy to them.

This rogue military man who has been parked as Fiji Police Force commissioner is not interested in investigating any such matters . He has no political will to carry out the responsibilities and duties of that high office as prescribed by the law. He is there for decoration and doing what the dictator Bainimarama wants him to do. It's as straightforward as that.

The Fiji Times today reports that Acting PM Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum opened the Youth Dialogue on Violence Against Women organised by the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre at the Southern Cross Hotel in Suva.
Everybody knows Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum is the right hand man of the erstwhile Dictator of Fiji and that violence and the threat of violence was the modus operandi of the dictatorship. That is why Aiyaz is the stand in PM during the dictator's overseas trip.
Now why does a civil society organisation like the FWCC which is dedicated to eradicating violence in the country get the dictator's henchman to open its anti- violence forum?
Aren't there more suitable people in Fiji to do that?
Why give this public profile enhancing platform to a dictator's man - never mind the " respectable " titles he carries?
It's okay for the corporate people to do that to suck up to whoever is in power and calling the shot. It's okay for government and quasi- government entities to do that. They have no choice.
But why does a civil society organisation have to do that?

There has always been provision for Citizens Arrest but it may well not have found its way into the Crimes Decree of 2009. The former Penal Code of most Commonwealth countries and Crown Colonies permitted arrest by civilians who had witnessed certain specific crimes committed. Only common sense and remember that "ignorance of the law is no excuse" also applied to any adult. No wonder then that Law and Order was so much in evidence at the time of independence and seventeen years thereafter in Fiji. Seems like 'Time Immemorial' does it not? What have we done ourselves to bring the Penal Code into such disarray so that 3year and 6year olds may no longer be safe even with blood relatives? This is depravity - moral decrepitude far worse than the scourge of hiv/AIDS though there is a direct connection and we know that there is. Therefore these crimes of sexual abuse of children and underage girls and boys are now global in jurisdiction especially when they are posted on the internet. Fiji has been already marked for cybercrime posting of sexual abuse and there are those living and working among us who have been party to it. Communications are now surveilled globally for these crimes so there can be no ultimate escape.
