Ro Teimumu Kepa says the Fiji First government is either clueless on crucial matters of national security or complicit because they are party to these stage managed threats.
Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa said in a statement today that Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho should be removed from office immediately following his response to a suicide bomb threat by a local man apparently directed against the Opposition.
Ro Teimumu said in an age when suicide bombing and terror attacks are a global threat it was totally unacceptable and bizarre for the Acting Commissioner to say he would wait for a complaint from me before investigating the threat.
“Where else in the world would the head of a police service make such an irresponsible statement? Brigadier General Qiliho is clearly unsuited for his position and should be sacked.”
“His response as reported in the media today was tainted with hypocrisy. Here we have a ‘direct threat’ from someone who is a former teacher who is known to the Fiji First government and the Acting Commissioner. This individual has stated publicly he could act as a ‘suicide bomber’ and even make a bomb to destroy people in the Opposition.”
“Obviously he is a threat to the public and should be investigated immediately. The public should be given information about the outcome of such an investigation.”
“The Acting Commissioner’s initial response was to tell people to ‘control their emotions’ because it creates unnecessary fear. He adds there could be an effect on the economy and he would wait until I make a formal complaint before investigating it? What dangerous nonsense!”
Ro Teimumu said this response to a ‘direct bomb threat’ against the Opposition by an individual with known links to Fiji First and who may have been a teacher and is known to the Acting Commission raises the question of motive.
“It is almost like the second part of a story that started with the supposed ‘plot to assassinate’ members of parliament including some in the opposition that was uncovered in the West.
“Do they seriously expect us to believe that the ‘the evil plotters’ of such a horrific crime, in which some 20 plus members of parliament would be killed would take the details of their crime into a public Internet café, communicate their heavily coded information with each other, only to then leave the scene with their email still open with all of their secret plans left for the world to see?
For reporting this to the military not the police, the owner gets picked up and beaten?”
“The Acting Commissioner comes out strongly against the ‘plot’ even though we still don’t know if it is a genuine or ‘staged’ one. And here we are with a report of a direct threat of a suicide bomb from a citizen deranged or otherwise and the Commissioner will only act if I lodge a complaint?
“The Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu, adds more confusion to the picture when he is quoted in an overseas media report as saying there could be more assassination plots around but this does not worry him.
“This indicates that the Fiji First government is either clueless on crucial matters of national security or complicit because they are party to these stage managed threats. “I hope the people wake up and recognize the ineptitude and incompetence of this government.”
