NDMO should not be the SOLE guardian and distributor if Fiji is to rise up; the spate of Corporate announcements are welcome but let us hope they are not financial stunt to appease the FijiFirst Party government! NDMO could still be the central clearing house but others must be allowed to distribute, even if under the supervision of delegated NDMO officers...what is urgently needed is the springing up of TENTS as temporary shelters for thousands who are sleeping rough!

Editor,
PRESS FREEDOM
' Turkish journalists released from jail after court rules press freedom violated' - Agence France Presse Feb 26.
The country's main opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet's editor in chief Can Dundar and Ankara bureau chief Erdem Gul had been detained since November over a report alleging that President Recep Tayip Erdogan's government tried to ship arms to Islamists in Syria.
The constitutional court, which was convened to discuss the journalists individual petition, ruled that their " rights to personal liberty and security had been violated" the court said in a statement on its website.
" their freedom of expression and freedom of press was also violated".
Press freedom group Reporters Without Borders ( RSF) said it was delighted by the decision.
The decision by the constitutional court says " it is not a crime to tell truths" said the head of Turkey's main opposition party.
The case has amplified concerns about press freedom under the rule of Erdogan's, who had personally warned Dundar he would " pay a price" over the front page story.
Human rights activists have protested at the detention and charges against the journalists, calling for their release.
US Vice President Joe Biden on an official visit to Istanbul in January , complained that media were being " intimidated or imprisoned for critical reporting" in Turkey.
Those in power with an authoritarian bent do not take kindly to critical reporting.
The only kind of reporting they favour is the kind that sucks up to them and puts them on a pedestal .
The Fiji Sun provides a good example of that in Fiji under Bainimarama and Khaiyum's rule.

Editor,
We read in Avanesh Pandey's article ' Total, Vitol Fined For Corruption Related to UN's Food-For-Oil Program In Iraq' ( Feb 26, International Business Times ) that " A Paris court fined the ( French oil giant ) Total $825,000 on Feb.26, for corrupting foreign officials..."
Did Total do any " corrupting foreign officials" in Fiji?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
