UPDATE: The Restriction of Movement Lifted "People that are in Town who need to go home will go home and if people don’t adhere to these warnings we are going to charge people for loitering, it is a chargeable offence, the Police Force is coming down hard on it, we are going to charge people for loitering, we are going to pick up people that are swimming in areas that we come across if we tell them to go and they don’t we will pick them up as well and bring them to the police station." Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho Here's an OCHA map showing the expected path of TC Zena south of Fiji, as well as the dangerously high rainfall currently being seen in many parts of the country. Flooding is the key concern and people living in low-lying areas should make preparations during daylight. Stay away from flooded waterways and stay safe by observing the many road closures around the country

you can do , it's your responsibility to say no. not some government telling you what to do and how to do it. if you are dumb to swim so be it. the right to movement comes with a responsibility , it doesn't mean you can do whatever you like it means you must take full responsibility of your own actions. only idiots have to be told what to do. so this is a nation of idiots

Resource will be wasted when people who are supposed to be home, but continue to defy the curfew get washed away by flood waters and emergency services are activated for search and rescue. Before putting to paper think Canada boci.

Curfew is for reducing theft and burglary as it is known fact of risk takers pouring into towns stealing during floods. Curfew will give no excuse to those found away from their homes into areas they not suppose to be during such emergency moments. So if caught will face the police for disturbing their attempts to provide safety to the victims of disaster.

Recent curfews for Nadi Town and Lautoka City to prevent looting at night or to keep out of flood waters and prevent loss of lives. If Police and Military want to do something very effective during adverse weather conditions, then please get rid of the numerous youths and adults from flooded roads and highways - they were just sightseeing!! On our road survey to identify flooded locations between Nadi town and Lautoka we even witnessed many people having a swim in the rivers and newly-formed lakes & mud pools. Others were using the usual foot crossing from the Highway to Sabeto Village which was then flooded up to the neck. Such stupid acts must be the priority of the authorities concerned and fines must be imposed for those who disobey properly imposed rules and directives; for too many have drowned or injured themselves.

Another cyclone just passed? Canada Boy and Saiko's comments are both valid. There's always lots and lots of cleaning up to do post-cyclone, so simply put those energetic ones unnecessarily violating curfew hours to task.

Why is there no appropriately staffed and trained CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS in Fiji as there used to be and is in many countries around the world?
