DASHED Hope:  Draunidalo treachery will be political suicide for the much vaunted HOPE party; she will stand accused of formenting racism by abandoning NFP - not to mention display of political opportunism

Her rank opportunism reminds one of her late mother after the 1999 election when Adi Kuini Bavadra wanted to be appointed PM instead of Mahendra Pal Chaudhry; her defection signals one message - to deny NFP leader Biman Prasad the prime ministership in the event of an electoral upset - we were told she was leaving NFP due to ill-health; Fijileaks will be back with in-depth analysis after 12 March, to argue that HOPE, led by Draunidalo, will be returning Fijian politics to base racism and indigenous rights, disguised as progressive party; most Indo-Fijian voters will see her as a traitor who is trying to damage Professor Prasad and the NFP in the 2018 election

Hope?
There was ONLY one hope and that was for ALL democratic opposition parties to unite to get rid of the Bainimarama - Khaiyum rule in Fiji. That hope was dashed at the last elections. For the next election in 2018 that hope can be reignited if the opposition parties transcended their petty parochial party politics and United to fight against a common enemy - that is the Bai- Kai regime - under a grand coalition leader ( even Rabuka as Russell Hunter has suggested ).
Without that there is no hope.
Certainly a HOPE party ( hope only in name ) will not deliver what is desired :
The end of the dictatorial rule imposed on the people of Fiji by coupist Bainimarama and his lieutenant Khaiyum.

Hi Victor. I don't often agree with yr analysis in my posts but on the occasion I agree 100% with u. The Fiji Hope Party has committed political suicide by appointing Tupou Draunidalo its founding president. It shows a poor respect for ethics and high moral principles when in one breath she tells us the reason of her stepping down as NFP President was due to her ill health. Then in the next breath she re-emerges as the leader of another party. Pulling that kind of stunt give politics a bad name. Only a fool would vote for her party in 2018. But every cloud has a silver lining. Her leaving the NFP is good for the party as her contributions in and outside of parliament were absolutely lack lustre. She is someone clearly promoted well above her level of. competence and she should be unmasked

Lies undermine the fabric and integrity of any society. Perjury and deliberate distortions of the truth undermine Justice. The newly refurbished Taveuni Courthouse is a marvel to behold. The facility should greatly encourage the people and hopefully will see more focus paid to the protection of women and children and their safety. The most precious resource for the future of Fiji is its young people and their nurture through the instillation of sound values, education, love.

One would have thought that as a lawyer Tupou should have know better but alas!! No wonder people have lost faith in the legal profession and the judiciary.

What HOPE do the weak, underclass and those with no political clout have when we have politicians like Tupou who tell lies to jump ship for the sake of their own personal gain.

HOPE my arse!!

Agree with @ABSOLUTE FILTH - Tupou has not only let the people who voted her feel betrayed, but she has sold her soul to a new breed of free loaders, potential crooks and much much more. History shows that people like Mick Beddoes are not only financially but morally bankrupt who should never be allowed to be anyway near the parliament.

In this way, at least MPC has some credibility - still with the FLP.

No one to represent the poor, weak, vulnerable and the like - shame Fiji shame.

Editor,
' Strong ' Leader Model
Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull has rejected ultra conservative/reactionary One Nation politician Pauline Hanson's claim that Australians want a " strong " leader like Putin ( ABC news 5/3 ).
A strong leader of the Putin variety has an authoritarian bent intolerant of opponents and critics and dissidents. Such a " strong " leader imposes his political agenda/ ideology ruthlessly with scant regard for different viewpoints or human rights and freedoms.
History provides a list of such " strong " leaders - Papa Doc , Baby Doc, Emperor Caligula, Idi Amin, Genghis Khan, Nicolae Ceaucescu, Emperor Bokasa, Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein... ( see Ian Schott's World Famous Dictators 1992 ).
The " strong" leader Putin stands accused of literally taking out opponents and critical journalists.
Why would anyone in an advanced democracy like Australia want such a leader?
Hanson merely gives evidence of her own mentality, her perverse worldview when she claims Australians want a " strong " leader like Putin.
What Australians really want - what in fact any population of intelligent people anywhere want - is a SENSIBLE leader to lead the country.
Regrettably people don't always get the leader they want...
Just look at the kind of rubbish leaders we have all over the world !
That's why so few leaders like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King were truly revered.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

On 23/1 i wrote "It has been the talk of the kava circles for sometimes now that Roko Tupou has joined Mick Beddoes and Peter Waqavonovono for the next elections - that is why she wants devote some time to herself for this short time......before the next elections! " There is no secret in Fiji but yes you're right....Trust is hard to earn and its quickly lost when someone lies to you

This is quite disappointing to read from you, Victor.

So many assumptions when we have yet to even see the manifesto for this new party. By pre-judging their goals, you've lost credibility.

I'm sure Draunidalo is glad to have left NFP if she was only respected for being there, and not as an individual. When she sings your tune, you laude her and her party. The minute she stops, out come the long knives.

At the end of the day, the defeat of Bai-Kai should be your primary goal, yet here you are tearing down opposition. Some freedom-fighter you are

NFP is better off without that waste of space Tupou but still not good enough. Let’s hope Biman does not try his Labasia lingo in FBC again. And what exactly has NFP done towards attracting members from Fiji’s greater cultural diversity...? ...as the Mick bigmouth has aptly pointed out.

The FLP unfortunately is pigheadedly led by a seasoned chor convict daaku. End of the story.

ALL other parties, it seems are just lurking bigoted RACISTS –in waiting.

So the bad kismet kai-indias, like me of today, sorry to say, in the interests of our self-preservation, we must support the BaiKai –as the ONLY realistic and pragmatic devils to vote worship.

If the only criticism against Bai/Kai is that they are STEALING -like there is no tomorrow. Then I say, let them STEAL. Everyone else did. Rabuka is a BIG Chor and RACIST who recklessly ruined the NBF by Chori. The shameless RACIST Qarase even fooking STOLE from the Girmit Center Refugees’ money for shameless ‘vote-buying’. FLP’s Leader MPC is called a daaku by his very own lawyer.

Bai/Kai, no doubts, are the Biggest Chors of them all -they even STOLE their fooking Party name!!

But they have one BIG Plus. They are not Racists...and that, bro big tree, is satisfactory to my primary goal.

Bula Victor!

Please note that it is a person's liberty to choose which party he or she wishes to join!...what's wrong with that?...if she thinks that the NFP is not doing the right thing as an opposition then it is her prerogative to find another party that will remain focus in ousting the current regime and fight for the liberation of the Fijian people including the indigenous people of Fiji.....

I am sad to say that whenever an indigenous person like Tupou Draunidalo makes a point regarding the rights (self-determination of their social-economic and political well being and love & respect of other ethnic groups in Fiji) of the indigenous people in their own country, people like yourself are always the first ones to say that this is a discriminant issue or issues against the non-indigenous communities.....this is absolutely absurd!

Please stop being anti-indigenous Fijians! I am a moderate indigenous Fijian and I respect the rights of all the different ethnic groups that lives in Fiji!.....

God Bless Fiji

Self determination?

Paula Raqeukai, indeed if Draunidalo is talking self determination of their social economical and political well being, than that is absolutely RIGHT.

That means all those indigenous Fijians that supported in any way or form this current constitution by taking part in its processes and finally in registering political party under decree and then taking part in the electoral process, THEY have SOLD OUT that right of self determination which was provided under the 1997 constitution, period.

So ALL those indigenous Fijians who are sitting in parliament and those who took part in the elections, and those who voted have jointly and severely SOLD OUT that entitlement because they voted by about 90%. That is overwhelm majority.

Now only self determination is BAI KAI law that late Draunidalo was excited to achieve and told his SDL team now we will have more indigenous Fijians in parliament, isn't it?

Then Qarase (who Adi Quini called racist) jumped up to support 1 man 1 vote supporting to unconstitutionally change the electoral process.

If this is self determination then Bainimarama / Khaiyum have delivered self determination.

Paula Raqeukai, what type of self determination HOPE will bring?
