“It is not long to the next election. We should be preparing to kick out this heartless and aimless government. That will be when the people of Fiji tell Mr Sayed-Khaiyum to “Look for Work”. Pio Tikoduadua, NFP
As our sister pro-democracy Coupfourpointfive reminds us, in January 2010, Aiyaz Khaiyum got then Commander Frank Bainimarama's salary increased from $96,0000 to $230,000 and obtained other benefits, increasing his total salary package to over $316,000 per year. A letter (11 Janaury 2010, Hand delivery) from sources close to Government House and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, who was President in 2010, shows how Khaiyum, who was then Attorney General, wrote to Nailatikau and got the package approved for his boss. Apart from other benefits including full medical treatment for him and his family, from January 2010 until the elections in September 2014, Bainimarama’s earnings are as follows: Base salary: $230,000 per annum; Extra Duty Allowance: 12.5% of base salary which is $28,750 per annum; 25% Gratuity for every 12 months of service: $57,500 per annum. Total salary per annum: $316,250
LET THE SUN SET: Well, Aiyaz Khaiyum should tell Ram Sami & Sons to send 49 Bangladeshis back to their country, for Fiji's UNEMPLOYED can pick the EGGS. Of course, he won't, for the Samis' DONATED $30,000 to the FijiFirst Party. Khaiyum should also tell the Pakistani ANZ CEO SAUDI MINAM to leave FIJI. This Pakistani should be investigated how he qualified for Fiji Passport. He has not been in Fiji for 10 YEARS
NFP PRESIDENT SAYS AG NEEDS A “Reality Check”
National Federation Party President Pio Tikoduadua says the Attorney-Genera; and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum needs a reality check following his “outrageous” statement asking workers reliant on FNPF to look for work.
Mr Tikoduadua said Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum appears to be even more “disconnected with reality” than usual.
“He is now saying that unemployed people who are receiving their FNPF payments should “look for work”.
“Where, in an economy crushed by Government debt and Covid-19, does he suggest people should “look for work”?
“More than 100,000 jobs have disappeared since 2020. The Government has no response except to tell people “take out your FNPF”. And even then, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum accuses FNPF members of abusing the scheme”.
“Even before we were affected by Covid-19, the economy was sliding into the doldrums under the micro-management of the Economy minister”.
“This resulted in poverty levels rising to 29.9% by February 2020 – up 1.8% from 2014 levels of 28.1%”.
“And this was happening at a time when government was bragging about unprecedented economic growth under the so-called Bainimarama boom”.
“Tropical Cyclones Yasa and Ana have come and gone. The Government allocated only $3.5m for cyclone relief because it has no money”.
“It has been months since the Government even talked about people in the West who have lost their jobs”.
“As for doing anything for them – nothing. It is NGOs and committed people there who have reached out to support the jobless.”
“The Government is drifting, with no plan, hiding from our deepening economic and social problems. As for solutions to these problems – the Government does not know what to do and it does not care anyway”.
“It is not long to the next election. We should be preparing to kick out this heartless and aimless government”.
