TELS has suspended any loan for upgrading engineering students qualifications. This means that if a student completes a certificate in any engineering field, he or she cannot apply to TELS for loan to upgrade to Diploma or Degree level. It is a well estbalished fact that slow learners begin from certificate level and upskill to diploma and later onto degree level.
There is shortage of engineers in Fiji but TELS is refusing the unqualified engineers to upgrade engineering qualifications. Hence, leaving Fijians behind.
Students completing diploma in engineering with A-GRADE will not be allowed to continue to upgrade under TELS. It is claming that students currently employed will be given a chance to earn a diploma, while others will be excluded.
This means the FFP government wants only Fijians with diploma so that water pipes continue to burst and pot holes in the roads continue to appear. Fiji needs qualified engineers with degrees
