A former lands surveyor accused of accepting a $10,000 payment for carrying out his duties almost nine years ago has been released on bail by a magistrates court in Nadi.

Shiri Narayan charged by FICAC with extortion by a public officer over his receiving the $10,000 payment late September 2006 was released on a $5000 bail bond. The court has ordered he reports to the Ba Police Station every Saturday between 8.30am and 1.30pm.

He also surrendered his passport. It is alleged that on 22 September 2006 in Nadi, whilst employed in the public service as a divisional surveyor western of the Lands Department, Narayan accepted a payment of $10,000 beyond his proper pay and emoluments for the performance of his duties for approving a transfer and change of a lease.

The case has been adjourned to April 20 for mention where Narayan will be served with the second phase of disclosures. He is also scheduled to take a plea. Read more at: http://fijilive.com/news/2015/03/ex-lands-surveyor-gets-bail-in-extortion-case/60821/

Double standard. Selective justice. These have been pretty much the norm in the " new " and " better " and " true " democracy crafted by coupist Frank Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum and their cronies.
If you are a crony then the law will not apply to you. Indeed the law will be bent to protect you .
Dr Ganesh Chand was a regime crony. That is why he is still free after his corruption at the FNU.

Double standard indeed. Only shows that FICAC is running by a bunch of people who are totally oblivious to the notions of justice, fairness and the like. This is the real Fiji - even after a suspect election.

Can the State chamcha lawyer the solicitor general Sharvadah Sharma who claims Fiji has independent law enforcement and judicial system comment on this apparent double standard?

Why would FICAC give a guarantee to Andrew Moti Singh ?

We gave guarantee to Andrew Moti Singh after reviewing all the claims supported by documents that there was sufficient grounds to take Chand into custody for questioning

Well in that case your guarantee is worthless !!

Well in that case there is in fact no independent justice administration in Fiji , only lackeys who do the bidding of the dictator Bainimarama ( now " democratic" PM ) and his main boy Aiyaz Khaiyum. Nothing has changed . The way of the dictatorship remains intact.

So you would prefer the surveyor and Buadromo not to be charged. Two wrongs don't make it right. Have patience and you'll see Chand's day to face court would come.
