Fijileaks it's so good of yous to conclude the year with this piece to remind us all - Fijians in Fiji and abroad - that Bainimarama has been the most corrupt and ruthless ruler Fiji has had the misfortune to have.

Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General I Qiliho anticipates becoming police chief. He has anticipated well. He has not applied yet but is thinking about it. That - thinking about it - should be sufficient
" merit " for him to be given the top job by his military mate the erstwhile military dictator and now pretend democratic PM Frank Bainimarama. That's how the " merit " system operates in the " New Fiji " of the dictator's creation : Job for the boys. It's a " merit " system that appeals to an intellectually shallow and morally hollow lawyer like Ashneel Sudhakar who has also benefited under that " merit " system which has allowed him to become a MP by virtue of being an arselicker of Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, the dictator's main boy.

What a year we have had. The best part was how this Government revealed its true colours. The cartoon sums it all up. One got to be in the family to benefit from public money. How stupid we were to trust Baini and Kai. Thank God 2015 revealed all. I pray that 2016 becomes year of redemption. Wish all a happy new year.

Editor,
FIGHTING FOR FAIRNESS
We learn from the Canberra Times article ' Dr Qinglin Wang and his fight for fairness against ACT government ' 28/12 that Dr Wang has accused the government medical intern policy of racially discriminating against him when he wasn't chosen for internship at Canberra Hospital. In stead he has found himself working as a low- paid aged care nurse struggling to support his family...
Dr Wang had come to the country with enormous expertise in neurology in response to a shortage here.
Dr Wang said " I don't want to become an anti- discrimination hero, but I just want the policy to be fair".
His effort, supported pro- bono by law firm Sparke Helmore, led to a major win earlier this year when the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal found the medical internship policy was discriminatory....
There is clear lesson to be drawn from Dr Wang's story : we must not shy away from fighting for fairness against the government.
And there are good people who are prepared to lend a hand in the fight as the pro-Bono support of the law firm in Dr Wang's case demonstrates.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

2015 was definitely a year of "revelation" with this illegal regime in place having a whole lot of loopholes within.

I'm sure that 2016 will be even better with more exposure for what Frankie and his cronies really are, adding on to what is already known about them.

Seasons greetings for sure.

ROGUE RULER HARMS COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE
In Burundi " hundreds of Burundians have been killed since April " and " more than 100,000 have fled the country " in the violence that followed President Nkurunziza's controversial third term.
His government has rejected the OAS peace talks. The OAS says claims of sovereignty is a way of hiding behind the illegitimacy of clinging to power and avoiding military intervention by the OAS.( Aljazeera news 29/12) .
Claim to sovereignty is a standard pretext of rogue rulers trying to avoid scrutiny and accountability.
We have had that claim advanced after some of our coups in Fiji.
When the State instead of protecting its people is responsible for the violence, killings and displacement of its people the claim of sovereignty becomes hollow.
I wonder whether President Nkurunziza was among the African leaders who applauded and gave President Obama a standing ovation when he delivered a speech at the OAS calling on African leaders not to cling to power after their term in office ended.
It is not uncommon for rogue rulers to do that and return home continue business as usual.

Editor,
We read in The Telegraph article ' Burma activist jailed for six months for mocking military junta ' 28/12 that the jailing raises fears of a return to Junta-era curbs on free speech in Burma.
Chaw Sandi Tun 25 a political activist who had reportedly campaigned for Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy ( NLD ) party until her arrest last October for a social media post making the country's powerful military establishment.
In recent months the military and it's incumbent army backed government has been accused by rights groups of returning to junta-era tactics. In February a freelance journalist was arrested for uploading a satirical post on Facebook ... Another was shot dead.
I know of some other people who would love to emulate the army backed government in Burma and throw people in jail for mocking the military establishment and the mob they helped install in power.

Editor,
Professor of Law at the University of NSW George Williams alerts us in his article ' The growing assault on our democratic rights ' smh 27/12 that " Australia has entered an era in which politicians cannot be counted upon to uphold our most important rights..."
Many in Fiji in light of their experience will readily agree with what Professor Williams says.
Made Elbourne writing in the Fiji Times 29/12 would be one of the many. She challenges the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum's self- serving distorted view on the nature and extend of the public outrage following the rezoning approval of the public park in Lautoka ( Shirley's Park ) for private commercial development.
The taking away of the commons for private commercial interest is part of the assault on our democratic rights.
We recall Professor Williams had come to argue constitutional law and the rule of law after one of our coups.

Editor,
THUGs in UNIFORM
We learn from LAHT 28/12 article ' Eight Brazil Police Arrested for Alleged Torture ' that the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro ordered the arrest of the 8 military police officers after finding evidence of their involvement in the alleged torture of 4 motorcycle riding young people who were stopped at a police checkpoint on Christmas night.
The youths said the police burned them with cigarette lighters, cut them with a hot knife and even forced one of them to perform oral sex on one of the officers, according to media reports...
Now what kind of police officers are these? Thugs in uniform?
Do they remind you of something in our " New Fiji " from not too long back?
See Fijileaks archives if you need to refresh your memory.

JOURNALISTS KILLED in line of duty in 2015
We learn from Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty report ' Atleast 67 Journalists Killed On Job in 2015' ( Dec 29 ) that the Paris based freedom Organisation Reporters Without Borders ( RSF ) noted "most were deliberately targeted for their work in supposedly peaceful countries ".
RSF said the circumstances around another 43 deaths of news workers and citizen journalists remain unclear, raising the possibility the total number killed in the line of duty could be higher.
The New York based Committee to Protect Journalists ( CPJ ) documented 69 killings. It said 29 of the journalists were slain by Islamic militant groups.
Syria and Iraq were the deadliest places for journalists to work.
I salute the journalists who sacrificed their lives to keep us informed about what was actually happening on the ground around the world.
My heart goes out to their bereaved families and friends and colleagues.
I salute also the journalists who have been demonised and discredited for doing their job without fear or favour of those in power. Theirs is a commitment to act as public watchdogs and to hold those in power to account.
Democracy would be meaningless without them and the work they do.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
We have heard a lot of talk from the gang in government in Fiji about the " paradigm change " they have made since the unlawful takeover of government in 2006.
But in the " New Fiji " of their creation the more things change the more they look the same! For instance a man can catch not one, not two but three giant grouper ( kavu) in one month from the mouth of the Rewa River without the authorities batting an eye . This tragic loss of species however was lamented by Lunik Liu of Sydney and Susen Sakal of Sacramento ( FT 30/12 ).
Here is an example of what real paradigm change would look like.
Writing to the Age 30/12 with reference to Canada's " dramatic reversal of anti- refugee policies " Jon McMillan notes new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau " represents a newly elected progressive ruling party; Mr ( Malcolm) Turnbull ( the Australian PM ), although personally of a liberal persuasion, is still beholden to right- wing forces for whom hard-line immigration policies remain sacrosanct".
The rezoning of public parks for private capitalist development leaves nothing to imagination about who those in power in Fiji are beholden to.
Is it any wonder there is more " business as usual " rather than "paradigm change " in the " New Fiji "?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
I can't for the life of me understand why All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams posting - of graphic pictures of dead refugee children with his tweet captioned ' What did these children do to deserve this? This summer share a thought for the innocent lives lost everyday in war" - should generate any controversy.
I can't particularly understand why Unicef, the UN body should say it would never publish such images ( ' Sonny Bill Williams tweet of dead refugee children is ' disturbing', UNICEF says' The Guardian 30/12 ).
Why not?
We recall from history that it was only after AP photographer Nick Ut took the iconic photo of Phan Kim Phuc at age 9 running naked on a road after being severely burned on her back by a napalm attack that the horrors of the Vietnam War dawned upon the conscience of the western world and produced the critical mass that finally led to the end of the war.
The photo taken on 8 June, 1972 won the Pulitzer Prize not without reason.
The UN body should stop acting the ostrich and confront the realities of war in all its manifestations - including the slaughter of children.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Thank you folks and Vinaka vakalevu Victor. Your graphic illustrations and the thoughtful comments are an effective and powerful way of communicating the sad and tragic truth about Bhai and Khai's new Fiji and their dictatorship under the poor guise of Parliamentary democracy. As the facts and figures and dates and events are revealed, more people around the world will see the whole TRUTH about the sham and scam that have been going on since Bhai appeared into the political scene way back in 2000, and how he has managed to feed the people with lies, deceit and bribes in order to remain in power. But as many of us know, guilt and truth are very powerful motivators. Both will eventually have their effect on Bai and Khai soon. Many of their closest allies have yielded and opted out of the charade. People like Mara, Pita, Pio, have decided to get out of their guilty traps, but they have yet to tell the whole truth. Others like my friend the smart businessman from Nadi has resigned from Parliament altogether. Others would have done the same had they have an alternative income source.

While 2015 has been quite a year of revelations, I think 2016 would be one of revolution. I think the following shall happen in 2016:

1. One or more MPs from FFP will resign or pass away as the guilt, fear and shame virus continue to take its toll.
2. More events happening from the Police, Prisons and the military, creating more jitters for the critters leading the dictatorship.
3. More revelations about the ugly side of Khai and Bai shall enlighten more people and increase the momentum and demand
for change.
4. Ben Ryan's Fiji Sevens Team winning the Olympic Gold medal in Rio causing a great celebrations and a powerful surge in patriotism and confidence in our nation.
5. Ministers resigning or major reshuffle and purging of traitors and whistle blowers amongst their ranks as the two mad boys of FFP try and stay the course.
6. Former civil servants, police, army and allies in private sector will "cross the floor" and blow the whistle on the Government and its secrets since 2000.
7. Public protest marches being organised to demand the immediate resignation of Khaiyum and Bai and the FFP government.
8 What will happen next will depend on the Government's response to these events.

May God help us to stand for the right and to do all within our power to do the right thing at all times. Vinaka.

I agree fully with your comment regarding the critical role Victor Lal and Fijileaks have played to keep the people of Fiji informed about the truth of what was happening in Fiji . Truth that the Bainimarama - Khaiyum dictatorship did not want exposed.
I do not however share your optimism about any revolution taking place in 2016 to dislodge Bainimarama and Khaiyum from power. If anything they will further entrench themselves in power using the same modus operandi they have been using since 2006 : threaten the critics and opponents and reward their cronies and the big end of town to bolster support for their regime.
Remember people who come to power the crooked way Bainimarama and Khaiyum have will do all in their power to cling to power.
Here's an example of that phenomenon.
Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza said Wednesday he would fight proposed African Union peacekeepers if they set foot on Burundian soil, defying intense global pressure to accept the peacekeepers to quell the violence that has engulfed the country after Nkurunziza gave himself a third term in office although the constitution allowed only two( ' Burundian president vows to fight African Union peacekeepers ' relief Web 3.0/12 ).

Yes Chiku. You may be right also. But you will agree that President Nkurunziza can only succeed if and only if the military will continue to support him. Similarly, Bai and Khai both know that their continued stay in power directly depends on various factors, and one of these is the support.of the military and security forces.

However, given what we know is happening at the military camps, in the Police and in the Prisons Depts, my guess is that soon, the dictators may face a serious challenge to their authority. Information and the TRUTH is rapidly reaching more people across Fiji and beyond.

Also consider the precedent being set by the protests from Ra and Nadroga which have been quickly labelled as sedition by the two FFP guard dogs. The cases are still pending and probably shall be resolved in 2016. The outcome of those cases will also affect people's moods and perceptions about the regime.

Finally, most people in Fiji prefer to remain silent as far as newspapers and blogs go. No matter what the papers and other media say, no matter what QORVIS think and do, regardless of what Bai and Khai and the FFP want to believe, there are people who live and move and make decisions based on their values and beliefs. They may remain silent but not inactive. They may remain seemingly indifferent, but not unconcerned. They may pretend they support this and that, but deep inside them, they believe in right and wrong , the rule of law and the noble principles of love, justice and righteousness.

Just like an engine, there are things that must be in place for the engine to explode into life. When the right mix of fuel and air and pressure and temperature is present, all that remains is a tiny spark to ignite the engine to life. I may sound optimistic, but I think much has happened already since 2000. Victor and Prof Narsey and other blogs have revealed a lot of the secret doings and shenanigans of Bai and Khai and their accomplices. We have even heard some in parliament and more shall be revealed in 2016. These will all build up until it reaches a saturation point, and a spark will ignite the nation into action for the better of our nation and all its peoples.

I regret to add that this future event may turn very violent and bloody, but such is the consequences of evil actions perpetrated by a few evil men who impose their will against the will and best interests of others. Let us pray that this coming uprising or revolution shall be swift, effective and restore our love and respect for one another and our commitment to the rule of law under God's principles of love, justice, freedom and prosperity.
