EXTRAORDINARY:

IN November 2009 Aiyaz Khaiyum tightened his noose around broadcast media in Fiji by promulgating the Regulation of National Spectrum Decree (No. 48 of 2009). The Decree was promulgated by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on 13th November 2009. Nailatikau had signed it into law on 12 November, a day after Khaiyum had secretly purchased the internet domain name Fiji First for Frank Bainimarama to use in a general election. As Minister for Public Enterprises and Communication, Khaiyum is not only in charge of the communications sector but also Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Ltd (Radio Fiji). FBCL is managed by his younger brother, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and this Decree was aimed at helping FBCL to launch its national state run television service on frequencies and infrastructure already installed and used by Fiji Television Company Limited. Aiyaz Khaiyum had seized control of the broadcast media and was helping his brother set up the propaganda TV station because the regime was planning to hold general election in 2010, which it later cancelled, and has now promised to hold in September, with Bainimarama's "Fiji First" party planning to contest, if it is able to obtain the required 5,000 signatures under the Political Parties Decree 2013.

A LAW UNTO HIMSELF: Will Aiyaz Khaiyum subject himself to fine and possible prison term under the Political Parties Decree for his role in the purchase of the Fiji First name? MINISTER FOR ELECTIONS & A-G, AIYAZ SAYED KHAIYUM, HAS VIOLATED HIS OWN POLITICAL PARTIES DECREE NO 4 (2013) BY EXTENDING THE DOMAIN NAME IN JANUARY 2014 & ADDING THE E-MAIL ADDRESS AS FIJIFIRST2014@GMAIL.COM WHEN THE PROPOSED FIJIFIRST PARTY IS YET TO BE REGISTERED & APPROVED!

Vinaka Victor!

Please can you also release Aiyaz Khaiyum's tax details and also that of Frank Bainimarama and others that we leaked to you after you had revealed Mahendra Chaudhry's tax details.

You have to end Fiji's agony, and especially end this man Khaiyum's total dictatorial grip on Fiji.

Yes, his decrees gives him total control of the Judiciary, and also prevents us from challenging his decrees, as stated in this National Spectrum Decree 2009

But this arrogant of a man has no CONTROL of Fijileaks!

Also, you have all his salary slips including those of his puppet Bainimarama.

Lets CUT THE CHASE and bring Fiji's suffering to a close!

FIJI comes FIRST, Victor! Bugger their FijiFirst bus and tax rides - it will take us no where!

Even in mature democracies with a solid tradition and political culture of accountability many politicians give themselves the licence to steal. So it's not unexpected that there would be a good number of crooked politicians in a coup country with little or no democratic accountability and transparency and public scrutiny.
Here is a good letter on this subject which Fiji watchers will readily identify with.
ICAC inquiry reveals a mockery of democratic ideal
- The Australian 30/4/2014
Years ago, someone remarked that in moral character politicians ranked only slightly above used-car salesmen. In light of the ICAC inquiry that assessment seems far too kind.
First it was Labor's Eddie Obeid and company, now it's the liberal Party's Chris Hartcher and friends, and goodness knows how many more will be exposed.
That people so devoid of ethical principles sit in government is a monumental scandal and a mockery of democratic ideal. Small wonder that all of the political class are now held in disdain. May all of those shown to be perfidious be prosecuted to the hilt.
- Richard Congram, Mosman,NSW.
What Richard says about politicians in Australia is true for politicians in Fiji - who are currently of the un-elected variety who have not submitted themselves to any democratic accountability since installing themselves in power some 8 years ago.
Take your cue from that!
