Update: HENRY PUNA, the former Cook Islands Prime Minister, is the new Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum

The first round of voting results: Cook Islands - 7 votes; Marshall Islands- 6 votes; Solomon Islands - 3 votes, and Tonga - 1 vote
Second round of Voting: Cook Islands - 9; Marshall Islands - 8, and Solomon Islands - 0

We were sure that given Blackguard Kubuabola's violent and controversial past - totally antithesis to 'The Pacific Way', he stood NO chance to be elected the next PIF Secretary-General. To avoid total humiliation, his candidacy was withdrawn at the last minute. Also, Forum members have witnessed how the Fiji government has abused its position in the recent meddlings at the USP, and Aiyaz Khaiyum's tendency to interfere personally and directly in regional institutions hosted in Fiji.
