What acting police commissioner Qiliho says is quite predictable. He is after all a handpicked political appointee of the dictator Frank Bainimarama his military coup leader. His role is to do the dictators bidding and to bluff to the people of Fiji.

Dekho, you are truly losing it in your old age. What else do militaries around the world purchase?? iceblocks??
They most certainly only buy weapons or are gifted them as in this case to enhance their capabilities. Really ,get real folks, if the Methodist church was taking delivery or the Fiji Muslim league were doing the same ,then the citizens ought to be alarmed. But the Army???
It seems now that some bloggers are professional town cryers, like those paid mourners at funerals who wail loudly for a fee. If there is a helicopter in them containers than be thankful that it may save your life one day from a road accident however if there is a gunship in there than start plans for emigrating.

It just seems odd like Fiji Muslim League is taking delivery of the Methodist Church consignment, lollipop, that;s all.

The citizens of Fiji ought to be alarmed when the Fijian army acquires more weapons. It is an army that has gone rogue and terrorised the citizens it is meant to protect. It is a bloated army eating up precious national budget which should go towards meeting the social needs of the people. Why such a bloated army for a country of 850,000 people?

And

And one of the main reasons why the world is in such a mess with so much human suffering is because of what the militaries around the world purchase.

In relation to your earlier post trying to correct me about the AK47 and denigrating he fact that I was a soldier and the concomitant professional knowledge that goes with it, please.read the extract below which should stop the 'shits' you are currently suffering from by my earlier response:

The AK-74 (Russian: Автомат Калашникова образца 1974 года or "Kalashnikov automatic rifle model 1974") is an assault rifle developed in the early 1970s, by Russian designer Mikhail Kalashnikov as the replacement for the earlier AKM (itself a refined version of the AK-47). It uses a smaller 5.45×39mm cartridge, replacing the 7.62×39mm chambering of earlier Kalashnikov-pattern weapons." (Wikipedia)

Va cava that? I

It should address all your BS about the AK47/4 and the 5.56mm viz a viz 7,62mm debate which you clearly don't have a clue about.

Just a question Commisioner; never in Fiji's history of policing Laws has a security firm been given more powers than the Police - is this the beginning of what to expect during your watch? Just prior to being appointed as top-dog, you recruited into the military criminal elements who had maimed and killed citizens of Fiji - what's next??
History has it that stored arms eventually became the weapons of choice and used against those who brought them in!!!..

Nothing sinister, except they did not want anyone to know...the response from CP stinks, after all a private security firm with ties to the military provides escort instead of police who appear to have surrendered their role.

"They did not want anyone to know"...?

Hey Ratu, the Fiji government announced last year sometime that they would upgrade their military arsenal with Russian weapons.

Where were you?

The Police Commissoner said they were into the planning and execution of the delivery. So nothing new there.

Sounds like you are part of Isoa Tikoca's propaganda machine.

VILI, you are so knowledgeable about weapons. ISN'T WIKIPEDIA MARVELOUS?
What portion of Wikipedia does the second paragraph come from. I tried the translate function to no avail.
It seems you are swearing at someone or something. Even Victor didn't pick that up during the editing phase.
Please avoid using foreign language on a predominantly English spoken sites so that everyone understands.
may the Lord bless your angry guilt ridden soul.
p.s Did you get the opportunity to watch BBC program on Muamar Gaddafi. Very interesting indeed about him and bodyguards always frightened and angry, lashing out and suspicious of everyone till the people power got him with bullet to head. All his loyal soldiers ran away and joined terrorist groups. Thank God for Donald Trump.

Guns, Guns and more Guns. More the Guns, More the Power that flows out of their Barrels.

And now with Chaudharys opening two, two Low firms in Australasia and with Ratu Ului plotting in his ancestral village of Tonga and more Fijians demanding to marry the same sex, things are looking ever more threatening to Fiji's new-found Democracy... and defensive measures are called for.

Luckily we can now rely on the good old Russians to defend our Democracy.

I don't get how bringing in more guns or even a different brand of guns (whether made in US, Russia or China) will enhance FMF's capabilities in a desert if they simply don't know how to defend themselves in the first place and use those damned things, instead of giving it away for free the minute they're cornered by armed elements in pyjamas.

Why on earth would the UN allow their peacekeepers to be armed in the first place if not to put it to good use when the situation calls for it. Instead as the world watched, FMF's 45 groggy stars decided to compromise other UN peacekeepers safety at the Golan Hts... but thankfully the latter had the brains, brawn & faith to get themselves out of that precarious situation! Now more guns for free give-away, oh boy Al Nusra must be chuckling away...

Come on 'Splash'...before you make these sorts of unhelpful and denigrating comments, please go read and understand the difference between Chapters 6 & 7 of the UN Charter when it come to peacekeeping operations.

You obviously have not served....so I don't blame you for considering yourself as a lesser individual than those who have put their lives on the line ..which explains your antipathy...sa rauta mada na lamu sona tiko...

The govt's decision to deal with the Russians and accept military aid from them while Russia is a major player backing one of the warring sides in a highly polarised Middle East could endanger the lives of our peacekeepers. In the Middle East you are either neutral or you are in one of the two warring camps. That's how they see things. When 45 of Fiji peacekeepers surrendered to the Al Nusra Front last year both the Al Nusra and Israel accused our peacekeepers with siding with the other side led by the Syrian Govt and backed by Russia, Iran and Herzbullah. This acceptance of assistance from the Russians will further cement the view held by the other side that Fiji is aligned with Russia and the Syrian Coalition. Al Nusra is backed by Arab Nations allied to the west such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey and also Israel. The acceptance of the Russian "gift" to the RFMF will present a direct threat to these powers. I doubt very much Govt took these factors into account when accepting the Russian aid

villy,

The adage, "There are no bad soldiers, only bad officers" comes to mind... The culmination of bad decision-making within the FMF over many years is that event that unfolded in the Golan Heights in Aug 2014.

I don't mean to be unkind but it is what it is: an embarrassing and shameful event that is a stain on the entire nation, and which the FMF may never live down...

Perhaps, if FMF had been led by female officers, they would have shown you guys a thing or two about how not to lose your marbles when it's 'show-time'. Bunch of fooftas.

I don't pretend to have been part of the FMF ponyshow since it's not my cup of tea. There are countless other ways in which civilians have and continue, to contribute effectively to world peace, rather than strutting around with guns, only to use it for the wrong reason i.e. terrorizing unarmed civilians ala FMF.

There should have been a court martial over the events in Golan Hts but alas, re-read my 1st sentence - the fish stinks from its head, FMF is correctly regarded as a rogue military that keeps its grip firmly on the nation's treasury. Foofta thieves!

You may be right. But I really don't care. I am a civilian and many years ago served a tour of duty in the ME. I am not here to defend the RFMF. They can do so themselves. I am happy to provide another perspective and if you are angry at that, then its your problem not mine.

Cheers

Those were noble times when you served your tour-of-duty Vili, but times have changed and perceptions too by Fiji citizens. For the first time ever, we do not have confirmed heads of the Military, Police & Prisons and giving a private security company more powers than the Police over this latest arms shipment can never be good except producing all the wrong signals and people are worried!! Debate over why the 40 surrendered instead of standing their ground will continue for many years, but i'm glad they did what they did and still alive to be with their families. All the militatry needs to do today is continue with its military games or whatever, but never touch another citizen, ever again, in anger....that is when you lose the right to protect us!!
