Just check out what kind of " donations " these unethical business wallahs made to the Fiji First Theft Party for its rigged election in 2014 and you will be able make the corruption connection..
That's how deals are done in the " corruption free ", " New Fiji ".

Editor,
Some in the business/corporate world do their business in an ethical way and with social responsibility. Many don't.
Here is an example one that does and it's truly inspirational.
At the launch of their environmentally friendly and economical small 2 cylinder Nano model car Tata's chief Rattan Tata said the car will be retailed at " only one lake because that is what we promised. And, a promise is a promise" ( mega factories, SBS 3/01 ).
Some people we know have no qualms about chucking in the rubbish bin the promise they made to the people when they took over the country. Remember?
No military personnel will profit from my coup. No abrogation of the country's constitution. A " paradigm change " from the " old style of politics ". etc, etc...
No wonder the former Speaker Pita Natuva writing to the Fiji Times 4/01 urges his fellow Fijians to live their lives with integrity as his new year message.
Integrity is one huge causality since the Bainimarama coup and the creation of the so called " New Fiji ".
Fijileaks has drawn our attention to many examples of the integrity deficit in the Bainimarama-Khaiyum regime.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Light-hearted the constructed ISIS Execution photos may be, they bear no resemblance to what s happening in Fiji.

We don't behead people just because of their religious beliefs.

Come on Victor give us 'kai Viti's' a break.

You been in the UK too long where the ISIS threat is much more salient.

We are much more than that in Fiji - we don't publicly behead people as they do in countries like Saudi Arabia with whom Britain does a roaring trade selling warplanes and other modern items of military equipment.

The hypocrisy of the British is appalling! Yet to pay tax to them!

Gili makes a valid observation in his last two sentences. The same point was made by the Iranian leader Khomeni yesterday when he said how come the West which claims to stand for democracy, human rights and freedom are such mates with the brutal authoritarian Saudi Arabian State..
The hypocrisy is not only British but the whole Western world.

Pita, don't u worry the wahabi form of Islam exported from Saudi Arabia that legitimises the beheadings practised by ISIS is establishing a foothold in peace loving Fiji through the Saudi trained religious teachers established in our local mosques and a school recently re~opened in Ba that will target homeless children to thatthat be brain washed into radical Islam. And our govt authorities are too dumb to recognise the threat

Editor,
Veteran journalist Samantha Maiden who was labelled a " mad f---ing witch " by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said she hopes he does not find himself on the backbench for accidentally sending the offensive text message to her instead of a colleague.
Ms Maiden said " I would be lying if I was trying to manufacture outrage ... I'm not offended by it".
This is a statement of the mental maturity of the veteran journalist.
Samantha Maiden the national political editor for News Corp's Sunday Papers published a column Sunday morning highly critical of another minister Jamie Brigg's conduct. Mr Brigg's tried to do some hanky parky stuff with a staffer at a Kong Kong bar during a recent trip there. The staff filed a complaint and Mr Brigg's has been forced to resign.
Peter Dutton text was meant to be sent to this colleague as a show of solidarity with him.
It has all the hallmarks of a mob belonging to the same party closing rank against a journalist who has the courage to write a " highly critical" piece on a member of their mob.
The offensive text betrays the mentality of the Minister.
We have ministers like that.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

There is no truth in the truth FF is lip singing. You know its become quiet obvious what is going on. The FF groupies only want their way , not the democratic way. The Lautoka rate payers cannot do anything about it. They were just a hand full , the rest of so called "fathers" just don't want to get involved. However all of them turned up for the Free chow. Bunch of gandu 's.

When GREED comes through the door ( often through the back door!), honesty, integrity and consideration for community fly out the window. That is the story behind the Shirley Park saga.

sThank you Rejend. I find it interesting to see the group of people talking part in the "digging" ceremony of the new Meghji and Hannon hotel at Shirley Park.

Something is very odd here. There are six people digging. The spades are also garlanded. Only one person faces the camera while the others decided to look downwards. Only one person is smiling because it is supposed to be a joyous occasion. It is very hot day and that is why the are wearing hats, to add to the building construction theme. But Bai wears an office suit and does not care to take off his coat to cool off.

Some questions might be asked such as :

Is Bai ashamed or embarrassed to perform the ceremony alone?
Why does he wear an office suit in the hot western sun?
Is it true that he usually wears a bullet- proof vest now when in public gatherings?
Why does he need five men to surround him? It's just a very small hotel but they needed six men to do the digging.
Is it true that he lives in fear of his life and does not sleep well?

Then I wonder what the people of Lautoka must have felt that day, seeing Bai and five men doing what they did in direct and total disregard to their humble and genuine plea. Bai did not come to listen to them when they were protesting the proposed development at Shirley Park. But Bai did surely come that day to tell Lautoka and the people of Fiji where his interests and priorities lie.

Then I wonder again what lie will Bai tell the people of Lautoka during the 2018 election campaign. But then again, will Bai be still around come the next election?

Pictures speak volumes. As the saying goes, Action speaks louder than words. In this case, Bai's action is speaking through a picture that shall be used against him later as the Fijian political tide changes.

Finally, I wonder whether the digging is a prophetic act symbolising the end of the Bai/Khai dictatorship. Was Bai digging his own personal and political grave? I wonder?

I can understand the gang doing the " ground breaking " ritual with a ribbon decorated spade ! getting their hands dirty on dirty money. But when did these people last get their hands dirty with soil? That explains why they have no real feel for Shirley Park as a place for the people and not for special business interests.

Editor,
In support of Vili's observation regarding the hypocrisy of the British I present this comment by Rosie Elsass in the Age 5/01 :
" ...And we should remember that in 2013 Saudi Arabia was voted on to the UN Human Rights Council with the help of the British vote. More recently, the UN Saudi ambassador was elected to head the panel of
" independent experts " of the same UN council. Makes a mockery of the UN".
It sure does . And tells us a lot about the hypocrisy of Western democracies who conduct themselves on the basis of what is politically expedient for them; what serves their own interests rather than an unwavering commitment to democratic values.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
The quality of democracy in any country can be determined by the quality of free speech.
In Australia a citizen can describe a politician as " moron " which is what one letter writer does ( smh 5/01) with regard to Immigration Minister Peter Dutton who had managed to accidentally sent an offensive text to a veteran female journalist calling her a " a mad f---ing witch" for doing a highly critical piece on a fellow Liberal Party politician who had made sexual advances to a female public servant at Kong Kong bar.
Can citizens in Fiji describe any of their politicians as morons in the newspapers there - now that Fiji has " true democracy "?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

For all citizens of Lautoka who really care about the preservation of land for public use, this Meghi Hannon Tappoos & City Councillors corrupt combination must not be forgotten. Add to this concoction a yet-to-be convicted 'drive-kill' Minister then it sums up nicely the current leaderships we have. All will come to pass and then the next round of elections - surely take heed and not make the same mistake with your votes!! Change must happen or we all go down sick. That one wearing full suit during groundbreaking ceremony, seems to me already sick!??
