FNUGATE: While FNU's former VC Ganesh Chand has been dragged before the High Court, FNU chair Jannif is accused of letting go, first, Rouse, and NOW Kafoa, both allegedly involved in the "EU Kiri" scam

What is known now are:
1. Berlin Kafoa has resigned and will leave soon;
2. He was managing the EU funded Kiri project;
3. EU has demanded back 6million Euro from the FNU;
4. Two of Kafoa's staff have also resigned as audit began against them;
5. Berlin allegedly used money belonging to FNU -  approximately $250,000 from 2010; more if you add monies used in FSM days;
6. He was allegedly paying Professor Ian Rouse additional money unknown to anyone, not even VC Ganesh Chand or Finance Committee or HR Director.
7. It is alleged that the total sum involved is about $500,000;
8. Iqbal Jannif allegedly allowed Rouse to leave without handing the case to Police or FICAC.
9. Rouse's wife allegedly came secretly to Fiji and cleared their house;
10. Both, Rouse and Kafoa, were also accused of abusing FNU Visa Cards
11. Unsurprisingly, like those running the Government, neither Kafoa, Rouse, Jannif, ever respond to any questions sent to them from Fijileaks

Please be reminded SELECTIVE justice became the norm after Bainimarama's takeover in 2006 and that has not changed with the holding of a phoney election and return to " democracy" in 2014.
Has Bainimarama Fiji First Thefy Party government minister Bala Sala got justice 3 years after his drunk driving that killed a pedestrian?
You know why that's the case : under the selective justice system put in place by Bainimarama and Khaiyum their cronies and cobbers are exempt from the rule of law as it applies to the ordinary citizenry.

Very well said. It is selective justice. But also deeper. Bala was drunk and driving and killed a pedestrian. He was allowed to contest election, and then made a minister. Dr. Ganesh saved Filipe Bole's life and is charged for that. The killer given power and enjoying life; the life-saver charged and dragged before the court. This is the new Fiji of Bai and Kai.

In the event of recipient Minister Bole who was a very senior cabinet minister since Alliance days pre 1987, was he not aware that he was not entitled for that money?

If Dr Ganesh has done wrong, then certainly Minister Bole is accomplice.

@Samjha

Put yourself in Bai or Kais shoes you will be like them or worse. You talk like an honest person when you are outside and have no power. When you have absolute power you will be singing a different tune mate.

Political power was for his taking after India gained independence following the struggle for freedom against the British Raj, but Mahatma Gandhi was not about power and privileges associated with it.
It is impossible to step into Mahatma Gandhi's shoes, but some of us are inspired by his example. People preoccupied with power, intoxicated with power, can't understand that.

If I were to make an educated guess I'd say he is or is an apologist of the Bai-Kai regime.

Not So

Erdogan, technically, Bai does not have absolute power as you claim. He was pushed out of the barrack and no longer having absolute power.

Apparently 90% people voted during elections and all registered parties participated and did not file any challenge to election results.

So he is singing the tune mandated by the people, and awaiting you to march to his office and seek his resignation if you wish. At least people singing a different tune can do so from far!

so that was the main reason they had to send Ganesh Home. Government knew if GC comes to know this, he would have terminated Ian Rouse and his puppets. so the best decision for Government was to somehow send Ganesh home.
this shows how corrupt this government is today. they must be benefiting as well

Erdogan
You like yr Turkish dictator namesake suffer from the same condition -- selective memory, you are forgetting that Bai's coup was many year's in the making. The GS 2001 parliament takeover was set up by Bai and his inner circle with the protection of the military and the hunger for power and prestige being the motivation. Khai was recruited much later from the ranks of many NGOs who were pressuring Bai to act against Qarase for his Qoliqoli Bill and pro taukei stance.

I had stopped commenting on USP & FNU. But I need to comment on this one. Nothing surprises me. Ian Rouse, Berlin, and his favourites ran FSM into the ground. That is why they were opposed to the merger of FSM. But Dr. Ganesh was too strong for them and began good initiatives to reform FSM and Nursing School. Unfortunately, he fell victim to the machinations of politics and greed. The main culprit seems to be Mahendra Reddy who always eyed the VC position. Dr. Ganesh was the big hurdle for him. Dr. Ganesh was also too much of a defender of academic freedom to let Aiyaz Sayed Kaiyum have his way with the University. So each had a motive. They all got their pints of blood. The ultimate loser is FNU and the medical profession. Mr Jannif is too simple a man to know of the immense damage which has been done to higher education in Fiji by the Rouse-Kafoa-Reddy-Khaiyum gang. Most regrettably we have no option but to now pin hopes on the Kiwi/British VC to see if he can resurrect the Uni to if not great heights, then at least to where Dr. Ganesh had taken it to. As for Dr. Ganesh, well good men always do good; my prayers have remained for him.

The problem in fiji is people like you who have no evidence whatsoever with what they are saying just based on hearsay and bat ni tanoa and some ucu mai duru.

Is there evidence that Bainimarama committed treason? Is there evidence that Aunty Nur has been milking the people of Fiji because her nephew Aiyaz Khaiyum is the twin dictator of Fiji? Is there evidence that Minister Bala Sala's causing death by dangerous drunkard driving case has been left in abeyance because he is a Khaiyum crony? I can site many more cases but an imbecile like you will refused to see the evidence ONLY because you don't want to by virtue of being a regime lackey yourself.

Isa Dr. Ganesh. Our heart cries for you. You are a true man. Lord's curse will be on those who persecuted you. Mr. Bole is alive because of you. We wont forget this. Only if you remained there FNU would be shining today.

The Good Samaritan

Issue is not whether Bole is alive or dead and who was the good Samaritan. But was the funds used / approved for Bole's medical care approved by proper channel and authority?

If that authority was flawed, then did Mr Bole himself know he was not a beneficiary to the funds of university, as his own insurance policy or parliamentary benefit or his own money was the correct funder of his surgery.

Bole should have excessed Health Ministry overseas treatment fund for the POOR if he did not have money of his own, although he has never been seen to be not in a full time high ranking job.

Did the Minister ask for money from Dr Ganesh either as a loan or as entitlements for treatment? What were the basis for Dr Ganesh to get involved in Bole's treatment?

Interim Ministers were waivered of crime until the setting of new parliament. If Minister Bole had asked Dr Ganesh for this money for his treatment, then it is Mr Bole who was in authority of power to as a bona fide member of regime cabinet, so if the recipient did not raise it was wrong and declined the offer, then Dr Ganesh falls within that waiver of any wrong doing no matter the transaction was wrong.

That will mean Mr Bole will have to reimburse the funds as he is able to do so since he is now alive, getting parliamentary pension and his own FNPF.

He should thank GOD and Dr Ganesh to have helped him gain his life and help lord's curse not be upon Dr Ganesh the good Samaritan.

Kana Loto is the simplest Fijian translation I can think of for the term "regime lackey" that Erdogan is. They are free riders who would not be in their current jobs without Bai and Kai.
The first treason Bai did was in 2001 when as RFMF commander he forced the stepping down of the President under the guise of saving Fiji from the the GS coup that he himself instigated. The 2006 takeover was his 2nd coup and the scrapping of the Constitution was his third act of treason. These are all clear cut breaches of the law. What more evidence do you seek Erdogn? Kana Loto. Matter of Fact

Why Is Jannif not giving the fraud case to police for investigation? Or has he given and FICAC not doing anything? Matter of Fact is FICAC is ASK's lapdog so it wont do anything which ASK dont want done. BUT there is lot to clean up. Rouse and Kafoa must answer.

We dont get enough food in hostels. We often go half full. We wrote complaints. But so far no actions is taken. Many promises made. Conditions in hostel declined continuously. Maybe FNU is going bankrupt because money is stolen by Managers like Ian Rouse. There is not even enough fuel to run brushcutters. Conditions are very very bad. Minister is not concerned.

These are a bunch of thieves at FNU now. Each of them is trying to make a quick buck. This is what happens when order breaks down. I bet nothing will happen to Dr. Berlin Kafoa or Dr. Ian Rouse. They are no threat to those in power. Now everyone trying to butter up and make quick buck. This is such a terrible lesson to young workers. Butter those in power and remain in employment. There is no place for honest, decent, hardworking employees.
