Coupist Rabuka's Home Affairs Minister Tikoduadua sends Bainimarama-Khaiyum BOOT BOYS, SHOE and CAR polishers back to the BARRACKS
Tikoduadua said the only minister eligible for a security detail was his Coalition Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka
Fijileaks: The hasty decision to withdraw total security from Frank Bainimarama without proper consultation will be a big headache for Commander Jone Kalouniwai, and a fertile possibility of REVOLT.
*Many die-hard Bainimarama loyalists will not readily return to planting CASSAVA when for too long they enjoyed all the perks from FFP.
*Tikoduadua seems to forget that it was the disbanded CRWU soldiers, formed by Coupist Rabuka after the 1987 coups, who brought carnage, bloodshed and murder at the barracks on 2 November 2000, with the current Commander Kalouniwai held hostage throughout the mutiny.
*And Rabuka was accused of hiding under the table at the barracks and giving orders to the loyal soldiers to cease FIRE
FORMER prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama will not have any military security detail, neither will any former or current Cabinet ministers.
Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua revealed this in an interview yesterday, saying he has instructed the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai to recall all military officials back to camp.
“I have instructed the commander for the return to barracks of all soldiers that are out here in the public service, the only exception being the military liaison officers that are here at the Ministry of Home Affairs because this is part of our work,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“But all bodyguards, all drivers, all personal assistants, executive assistants, I’ve asked the commander to return all of them to barracks.
“Soldiers should just go back and do soldiering work, not bodyguards or carrying ministers’ shoes or cleaning his car. That’s not their job.”
He said the only minister eligible for a security detail was the Prime Minister.
“The only person that is entitled to security is the Prime Minister.
“I don’t see why anyone should be running with security around this place until somebody can prove to me that you need personal protection.
“So there should not be anyone with Bainimarama, there should not be anyone with Khaiyum (former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum) nor any of the ministers,” he said.
“They should all go to the camp and the commander will look after them.”
Mr Tikoduadua said if a Cabinet minister felt they needed protection, they would have to liaise with the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.
“What I’ve told the commissioner is that if a Cabinet minister feels that he needs some personal protection, then the request will be made to him (Mr Qiliho) to provide that security for that minister.
“It will be the police, not soldiers. We’re in Fiji and all the briefs that I’ve been getting is everything is OK and that’s from the police and the military too — all is good.
“Why does anyone need soldiers carrying guns following them? “It doesn’t make sense.
“So that’s part of the motivation why I’ve asked the commander that he should accept these soldiers back and I trust his good judgment.” Source: The Fiji Times, 29 December 2022
