Dear Editor,

During the tribal days of Fiji, wars were quite common between villages and even islands. Chiefs warring against each other using clubs, resulting in a lot of bloodshed. When Christianity finally came into Fiji and civilisation was brought about as a result of the religion, peace ruled and wars were no longer required as an administration handled all matters of state.

What we're seeing today happening between Lalabalavu and Kepa is a refined war between two tribes that have sparred in the past during the dark days. Today, the two high chiefs are still at war, except they now use a pen and paper instead of war clubs.

While I certainly cannot claim to know what is happening on the inside, as you certainly do dear Editor, to historians, this is probably a great time to see two warlords go at it against one another and document how two provinces went to war minus clubs!

Beddoes represents the village caught in the crossfire, watches to see which side is winning, then rushes to the winning side and feigns support as well as reaping a share of the spoils of the war.

And here we all thought the days of tribal wars had ended in Fiji! :)

Take a deep breath! Stand back from yet another abyss! For the sake of the vulnerable and those who have been robbed of respect and due rights since 1987 and of the unselfish sacrifiices made by the few Who Knew Better, let common sense and love prevail. The signs of sheer folly are gaining ascendancy. Can we not plainly see?

THEY WERE NEVER MEANT TO
22/8/2015 08:01:40 am

this saga is an open testimony to the fact that Fijians
or i-taukei as they now want to call themselves were never
meant to run the country. they simply don't have the touch, finesse,
charisma, knowledge, tact, diplomacy, education, or diplomacy (your name it!!) to do so.

their own history tells us that they believed in having conflicts - fighting amongst themselves based on their clan - despite embarrassing Christianity.

They will soon ruin Fiji once and for all.

NFP narrowly won the elections in 1977.Splits within the NFP and its hesitation to take office also exasperated the situation. In September, Mara’s Alliance Party won and took control of the government.
Just shows that race is no barrier to conflicts...You may be Indian or itaukei but you're still human.

Not quite. On the contrary, your racial overtones and religious bigotory if shared widely is more likely to "ruin Fiji once and for all".

You might care to do some research on the progress and contribution of Fiji born, bred and educated individuals of all races/religions in terms of leadership not only in Fiji but also in the region and the world. Cut out your nonsense!

Like other political parties at varias times, SODELPA also has its share of internal issues to deal with, And its for their membership and leadership to sort things out and which I believe they have started to do. Shouldn't they be provided with that space?

Your misconception whether deliberate or mistaken is obvious.

One, the term "ï taukei" is not by choice because it was forced upon us by the current government.

Two, we may lack the "finesse charisma, knowledge or diplomacy" as you say but Fijians have ruled this country for a long time. Humans make mistakes and that goes for any ethnic group or leaders of countries the world over.

Three, conflict is not something you believe in, its a fact of life and certainly not limited to Fijians. For that matter, Christianity or any other religion set high ideals that mortals struggle to attain bar none.

Its far better to keep discussions focused on issues rather than making judgmental racial slurs that helps no one.

The way you put it, they must be not of this earth. On this earth people live in peace and harmony there is no fighting amongst races, religions, ideals etc not forgetting families. They have touch, finesse, charisma, knowledge, tact, diplomacy, education or diplomacy [twice wow]. But no not this Fijians or i-taukei as they now want to call themselves even though it was forced upon them without consulting them. Yep they will soon ruin Fiji once and for all. Sounds like you yourself are not of this earth let alone Fiji. Time to fast track your self to the moon. What stereotypical moron and very racist at that.

MEANT TO
23/8/2015 05:28:41 pm

Your self righteous condemnation is riddled with errors.

One, i taukei as name is is not by choice but by imposition. Two, they have been running the country in the past, they are running it now, and will continue to run it in the future. Who decides that they are never meant to run the country: You? Lack of touch, finesse, charisma, knowledge, tact, diplomacy etc can be found in human being the world over, irrespective of ethnicity. Lastly, all religion including Christianity are based on high ideals and standard that simply make a lot of followers fall on the way side.

Bulitavo is, simply, still a child in the game of politics. When he blurted out his imagined story about a rift between Lalabalavu and Kepa, he wanted to be in the good side of Binimarama and Khaiyum who control the kangaroo courts, magistrates and judges, hoping that he will get way scott free and get a lenient sentence from the charges he is to be tried with. What Bulitavo is forgetting are those SODELPA supporters who voted for him in the last elections with their hopes that he would advocate fair and just human rights and iTaukei interests in parliament unlike Bainimarama, Khaiyum, and their followers.

Now Bulitavo's political career has become a suspect and I wonder if he is going to endure in that field.

NEVER BEFORE
23/8/2015 01:59:06 am

I find bulitavo's letter to the speaker a complete joke and a clear example about the quality of MPs in the parliament.

The constitutional convention, together with the Standing Orders is that whenever any MP wants to be excused from parliamentary proceedings he/she must seek LEAVE (legal jargon for "permission") of the Speaker. This is done formally via a Motion and an affidavit in support providing cogent evidence for an MP's absent.

Never before I have seen an MP writing a letter as this joker has done. Clearly both the joker and the Speaker are unaware of the SO's. What a joke!!

Parliament is the lands highest court and must demand respect like the Courts demand of their officers. If any lawyer involved in proceedings wants to be excused, he must do so formally. He just cant write a letter to the presiding judge seeking him to be excused. Try that one would be subject to contempt proceedings.

Bulitavu is representing the majority silent SODELPA financial members, who have regretted making Kepa as their leader. This guy has the guts and during the one week crisis, the opposition office managed to release only a statement on Thursday 20 August and hit back same time which Kepa has no reply to. Gavoka says that SODELPA supports ra and nadroga Christian state. One mereoni kirwin was the instigator, she through Kepa managed to collect signatures to from the descendants of the chiefs that signed the deed of cession 1874, to file a case at the ICJ.

Fijileaks should ask mereoni kirwin a copy of the signed letter.

Fijileaks must also dig laufitu malani's involvement in the ra Christian State movement, she was the shawdow figure behind and had used her cousins (Sailasa malani, Joe natau, tui nalawa and raini mai natauia) to assemble the people.

Police must arrest her because she was linking up with mereoni kirwin and was financing from behind.

Let's get the facts.

Hon Bulitavu is simply a nuisance maker, at best trying to look good in FFP books in view of getting lighter sentence from compromised judiciary on sedition charges.A lightweight by all contrasts blowing hollow trumpet.

In the same light Sodelpa should wake up from slumber and provide a credible, transparent and inclusive leadership leading to next election.

This story is so typical of Fijians or itaukeis. they preach to their

itaukei's have been running Fiji since independence and when the people decided that you guys were simply not good enough, hell broke lose. You had coups after coups which were all instigated by your own chiefs who have for centuries lining their pockets.

Traditional versus Modern Forward Thinkers
23/8/2015 11:09:32 pm

When we are in the 21st Century, there is no place for traditional leadership especially in politics. Any Ratu or Adi who wants to do this needs to ship herself or himself back to the village and command your subjects from within your own jurisdiction. Bulitavo represents an educated class of modern Indigenous Fijians who are forward thinking. Whose ideologies are based on consultation, true democracy, negotiation, mutual respect and equal representation of the people by their elected Members. Those who do not know the leadership of Ro Teimumu Kepa should stop thinking they know the truth and thus unfairly criticise Bulitavo on supposed insubordination or traitor mentality. The actual fact is that the MPs have been bullied for too long and someone whose as young as Bulitavo however brave, has just had enough! Look at how Ro Kepa actually contributes in the House! She can barely say anything sensible! She asks the Minister for Youth and Sports on the seasonal workers scheme when if she had done her homework like a third time politician should, she would have found out that the scheme has been with the Minister for Labour since January of 2015! Then again what do you expect from someone who has always been served and has hardly served! Its top down approach from her and hardly any bottoms up! That kind of leadership and limited intellectual capacity will be the ruin of us yet! Well done Bulitavo! A true democracy fighter you are! Ro Kepa claims to have stood for Indigenous Fijians in the last 8 years and yet when the soldiers brought her to the RFMF camp...she was given fist class treatment by Roko Ului's men on their bosses command! Try prison like Bulitavo madam for some enlightenment! By the way all your Indigenous issue cries are lame. Ae we the only race in Fiji and is that all the Sodelpa party will cry for? Wake up and smell the roses!

What a load of crap indeed. Bulitavo is young and ambitious but please brave is not a part of his arsenal. Ultimatum given that he would resign from Sodelpa by Friday if the Leader of Opposition does not resign only to turn and do the opposite before his own deadline. Talks about leadership yet runs to the media to air his grievances. Conduct unbecoming of an ex Military man but then what do you expect from them this days.

ex Military man ???? Just coz he completed basic military training and attended a few weekend camps as a 'weekend warrior' does not make him a professional soldier. A professional soldier is one who is a full-time soldier and who displays all the qualities of a professional military man, the most important of which is not getting involved in politics.

Fiji has produced some excellent professional soldiers. Bulitavo is not one of them.

Fiji has also produced some very self-serving, ambitious, cock-eyed and arrogant politicians with a unjustified sense of entitlement. Bulitavo is one of them.

PERIOD

Thinkers are just that; thinkers...and no more
23/8/2015 11:51:25 pm

It appears that Bulitavo is not a principled type of person. He was elected into parliament under a Sodelpa ticket and manifesto and he failed on his promises to the people who elected him.

He might be a good thinker and who is young at that and has a future. But what kind of future? He is now branded as one who is disloyal to those who genuinely thought he would fight for their rights and needs. Those who voted for him are disappointed.

Reply
Thinkers are to be Puppets and no more!
24/8/2015 02:01:45 am

Why should those who have voted for Bulitavo be disappointed? They hardly gave any votes to him...!!!

Current constitution demands one to be a puppet to their leader and party. They are suppose to be no brainers. If they do then you get fired without any bi-election to allow you to return as independent or for you to remain in parliament as an independent MP.

When FLP could not work within the old constitution for their own members getting desciplined for not towing the party line, there was hope at least for a bi-election if they were elected seats. Only proprtionate representation had no chance so had to remain a party puppet and not be a brainer.

Brainers are not wanted in Fijian politics since SODELPA supports one man one vote and no INDIANS!!!

Suckers for purnishment took part in this election and gave 100% legitamacy as a political party. I thgought Fiji had just started breeding sheeps!!

Then came the voters impressed with the legitamacy given by their political heavy weights who gave 500% legitamacy by having 90 plus % voter turn out.

Therefore both political party and voter participation have now delivered this rogue new constitution a 100% legitamacy.

When one race becomes greedy to take away other peoples just rights, they tend to not look properly in the mirror what they signing up to.

At least you should be proud RFMF is ruling as it was RFMF that these these chiefs supported for doing previous coups.

Arrogance breeds stupidity and Fiji First is here to stay for another 20 years by hook or by crook!!!

For Bulitavo group only way to win this round is by having a leadership challenge by having a police report made for abuse of public funds, so to be able to rid the leadership.

Spolied brat indeed. In the article penned by him in the Fiji Sun (Bulitavo Educated and Well Connected - Nemani Delaibatiki) we can see that he is full of himself and has a sense of entitlement. He even describes himself as a 'professional soldier' when he was only a territorial soldier (a 'weekend warrior' is what the regular professionals refer to them). True professional soldiers do not involve themselves in politics; nor do they go around vandalizing public spaces by spraying anti-government graffitti (for which he is about to be sent to Naboro). This is the work of a thug and a vandal.

This guy Bulitavo has never been taught to respect others, despite his public advertisement of his chiefly lineage. He will learn that when he spends time learning the basics of tilapia farming in Naboro.

A true chief does not publicly announce that he or she is a chief. His or her people do that for him or her.

Only a young inexperienced brat or a a person not of true iTaukei blood who does not understand iTaukei culture and protocol will go about boasting that he or she is a chief.

Wake up and smell the roses my dear. Bulitavo is a politician paid by the taxpayer who have every right to question and pass judgement on his motives, behaviour, pronouncements etc. That what happens in a democracy where voters are free to participate and express a view on what their paid leaders are doing. Ms Smiling,

Irrespective of the truth in the report, the way it cam about is suspect. No one knows who Gaunavinaka is and for that matter who authorised the investigation and the report. The report only came to public attention after it was raised by Bulitavo through Delabaitiki in the Fiji Sun. Since then, they have pursued it ceaselessly with a venom symptomatic of a person with an axe to grind or fighting for political survival.

It would not be amiss to place the initial report squarely on Bulitavo.
