Sodelpa cannot afford to have internal problems. the common problem has to be solved thru simple common sense . if you don't have 100% loyality then step aside . money is a motivator of all doings mostly evil. sodelpa needs to change its attitude to being "of all races , for all races and by all races " accountability is power.

We read in the Reuters article ' Policemen Jailed for Torturing Lawyer to Death' 12/12 that in a rare event an Egyptian court jailed two members of the security forces.
Lawyer Karimova Hamdy 27 was arrested in February on charges of taking part in anti- government protest organised by the Muslim Brotherhood, the movement that the military removed from power in mid 2013. He died two days after his arrest after sustaining fractures to the ribs, bruises and bleeding in the chest and head, the forensic report revealed.
The lieutenant colonel and major with the national security agency were found guilty of torturing Hamdy to death. There are more than 200 lawyers behind bars in Egypt for defending the government's Islamist opponents according to human rights groups.
Despite the growing outcry over allegations of abuse of suspects, CRITICS BLAME A CULTURE OF IMPUNITY for police - still rarely being held to account and have called for an independent body to investigate abuse cases.
The Interior Ministry has said it would investigate all abuse allegations.
" The verdict is a message to all those in power who make light of people's dignity ".
That is as should be and it is good to see the State authorities in Egypt begin to attach the requisite importance to due process of the rule of law in determining the lawfulness or otherwise of the conduct of state security officers.
Has Fiji done that for similar abuse cases?
How many lawyers have defended government critics and opponents in Fiji?
We know many lawyers who joined the dictatorship in Fiji and the Dictator's party and have had no qualms in glossing over the abuses . In fact they are the defenders of the abuse!
They bring shame to the noble profession.

It is not only a few members but the entire party that should be sacked. The party is neither social nor democratic nor liberal but a parochial, anachronistic, racial based party ill_suited to the needs of a modern, multiracial Fiji. It's present leadership and secretariat inspire no confidence and the sooner they are dumped the better. The party needs new blood and new vision to lead it out of the rot and quagmire it finds itself to be in.

Their 'Youth Wing' are also of the same ilk. So we are wasting our time if we are to look at them as the source of the "...new blood and vision they need.

Here is an example of. Lawyer who is a credit to that noble profession.
We learn from DW. com 12/12 article ' China Human Rights Lawyer Stands trial ' that Once again a human rights lawyer is being tried in China. He faces up to 8 years in prison if convicted. Pu Zhiqiang 50 has already been behind bars for 587 days. It is a case among peers as all parties involved are deeply familiar with every detail of the Chinese legal system, as well as it's recesses.
In the only 3 page criminal complaint against him, the state prosecutor has accussed the human rights lawyer of " inciting hatred among ethnic groups " within the country and being a " public troublemaker". ( wow! That sounds so much like me!)
Pu was always a problem for the government in Beijing. As a student he called for more democracy at Tiananmen Square in 1989. He went on a hunger strike and participated in a sit- in...
After graduating with a degree in law from Beijing he passed the state examination and was licensed as a lawyer and a university lecturer. Among his clients were critical journalists, farmers whose land was expropriated,and victims of torture. In 2011 he represented the renown artist Ai Weiwei...
In 2013 Pu accused Zhou Yongkang, a retired permanent member of the Politburo of abuse of office on his social network account- something no one previously dared to do. Two years later, Zhou was sentenced to life in prison for corruption and abuse of office.
Christoph Straesser, Germany's Human Rights Commissioner, criticised the lawsuit currently opened against Pu. According to Straesser Pu STOOD UP FOR THE RULE OF LAW " within the context of his legal profession and on the basis of applicable laws".
The US State Department also called Pu " a courageous defence attorney recognised around the world for his tireless work in support of the rule of law in China ".

Never mind the fancy titles some of these scoundrel lawyers in Fiji might have. They are recognised for undermining the rule of law in the country and aligning themselves with the dictatorship in Fiji for their own self- aggrandisement and to enrich themselves. These lawyers have brought shame on the profession and on their person. No amount of fancy titles and high office posts can hide their bum sucking role in the regime.
