While Prasad lost votes compared to 2018, Khaiyum increased his by over 5,000 votes. Of course, the 'Nadra Conspiracy Theorists' will claim that Khaiyum got those extra votes during the infamous 'GLITCH'. Whatever one says, did he abuse the trust of his VOTERS, and is hiding in Australia? He could argue, technically, that he had NOT resigned his seat in Parliament but the SPEAKER deemed he (Khaiyum) had lost his seat when he accepted to join the Constitutional Office's Commission.
*CLARIFICATION: Many people have asked me why I had branded Prasad 'Rabuka's Jinnah' during the election. The students of Indian history will recall that all Mohammed Ali Jinnah wanted was a separate nation for the minority Muslims in British India. He didn't give a toss about those Muslims who by choice or design had to remain in an independent India. Today, millions of Indian Muslims are at the mercy of a chauvinistic and nationalist Hindu BJP Modi government.
*In Prasad's case, all he wanted was for NFP to form a coalition with PAP, and for Sitiveni Rabuka to become Prime Minister once again.
In 1999, Prasad and Wadan Narsey were two failed candidates in the Rabuka-Reddy coalition that lost the election that year.
*It was easy to form a coalition with Rabuka in 2022 but mark our words, now that Prasad is inside, he will have no choice but to accept Rabuka and his nationalists riding roughshod over NFP (including SODELPA).
*RABUKA is all about RABUKA. He knows he can push through his policies for Prasad is now a lame political duck. If he walks out of the coalition on issues affecting Indo-Fijians, and the three-legged wobbly government collapses, he walks into political wilderness.
*In a recent blog posting, Wadan Narsey, who was earmarked in 1999 as Rabuka's new Finance Minister, has made a very interesting observation:
"But sadly, large segments of the population, especially the masses of Indo-Fijians who voted for Bainimarama and Khaiyum, will not be able to avoid the nightmare recurring for them into the future as their share of the voting population continues to shrink and they become increasingly irrelevant in future elections. “What you sow you shall reap”."
The Indo-Fijian population shrunk, thanks to Rabuka's coups
We wonder if Prasad has calculated that his future political survival rests with cutting deals with the likes of Rabuka and the Indo-Fijians can,
GO TO HELL FOR VOTING FOR KHAIYUM
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says once the Great Council of Chiefs is reinstated, its composition will initially be something similar to what it was before it was abolished. Rabuka says the government will, by this time, already have had discussions with the chiefs on the running of the institution. He says chiefs will be brought in with the thinking of modern leadership rather than chiefdom. The Prime Minister says it will be a combination of modern, contemporary leadership and traditional meritocracy. FBC News
