Editor,
The Corrupt Should Not Be In Any Top Job . They Should Be In Jail.
That's what happens in Australia as the current case of former Labour minister Ian MacDonald demonstrates. Disgraced former NSW minister Ian MacDonald faces lengthy jail term for misconduct in public office. MacDonald is likely to join his former political mentor Eddie Obeid,73, behind bars, after a jury reached a unanimous verdict that he unfairly granted a lucrative mining exploration licence to a company that was chaired by his union mate John Maitland.
MacDonald was once described by another politician when his misconduct was first exposed as the " left testicle" of his political guru.
In yesterday's smh article ' Ian MacDonald set to be jailed after judge revokes former Labour minister's bail" we read prosecutor Michael McHugh said Macdonald's conduct undermined public confidence in the institutions of government and only a jail sentence was appropriate.
Justice Adamson said a " remarkable feature" of the case was that much of the misconduct occurred " in plain sight".
That is a display of the arrogance of power.
People in positions of power think they are untouchable; that they can do anything as they see fit.
This case is a reminder that in a democracy they can't. There must be accountability for their conduct. And when their conduct is found to be corrupt they land in jail; not in a top job elsewhere.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Where did ASK spend his holidays with his family last January? Who were his hosts who sponsored his holidays in Lanka. Fess up Arse. Then he added Mauritius to his itinerary from Lanka but allegedly for official duties for the public purse to pay for his junket. What was your official business in Mauritius and what did you achieve, Arse. Peanuts for your monkey act in Parliament? Yet you can return to Fiji eith a straight face. WICKED!

Editor,
Crime Pays.
My reading of the treatment of crime, corruption and criminals in Australia is not as clear cut as I might have made out earlier.
The celebrity like glitz and glamour and the mainstream media mob's fascination with drug smuggler Shappelle Corby shows crime does not always attract stigmatisation in Australian society.
In fact it was reported previously that Corby was paid big money by one media outlet for " her story ". Her story is that she was caught with drugs and jailed in Indonesia. She spent 12 years in jail. Her jail time was reduced. According to Indonesian anti- drug agencies Corby should still be doing time for her drug crime.
She is returning home to Australia with more pomp and parade then war heroes!
I wonder if she has become a role model in a perverse way for some intellectual imbecile.
We know that can happen in the same way that a coupist is admired and seen as a role model by other potential coupists.
Particularly when you consider how rich and powerful a coupist can become within a short time of the commission of his crime.
It would be simplistic to believe crime does not pay. In the world we live in crime can pay - quite handsomely.
I'm sure Corby can confirm that.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
