The rule of law and acceptable behaviour went out the window when the thugs took over the Government of Fiji by force and got away scot free. They are still in power and have become " respectable" members of Fiji's new parliament.
A bunch of young men drinking in a mini van is a relatively minor matter. The girl is lucky worse could have happened.

Yep

Should anybody be surprised if they were?
The army commander Frank Bainimarama was above the law of the land. His underlings would take their cue from him.

They were civilians. Not everyone who does bad is an army officer. Lets not make this a political issue for grandstanding purposes. It is a civil issue. Normal people are just as stupid - and worse!

Hopefully the police do take it seriously and investigate as evidence is fairly apparent and charges can easily be laid.

Evidence has been " fairly apparent" in many cases since the unlawful takeover of the Government of Fiji on 5/12/2006 including the takeover and could have easily been prosecuted . BUT that did not happen. Because the so called independent institution of state like the police and the judiciary forget what their role was. They were / are under the thumb of the power holders - the same mob who did the coup. This is just a friendly reminder.

Code of Conduct

The mini bus operators should take cue from such incidents, particularly because this is run mostly by itaukei. Induct your drivers with the most basic code of conduct. At the end of the day passenger safety and comfort is your business and survival of your business entity.

Don't let shameful acts of the few destroy the livelihoods of many.
