If one person has to buy all the items mentioned he will be paying $73.84 more now. that is 32 hours wages in food alone.

Now where was it I just read that a group of village women have just raised some $80,000 FJD towards another church?

Why are the streets, roads, rivers and sea littered with expensive food takeaway containers and juice bottles everywhere in Fiji?

How come every other person is shouting into or tapping a mobile?

How come so much alcohol can be purchased by those claiming poverty and so many drunks roaming the streets?

Yes there are poor that will be affected but there's one hell of a lot that need to get their priorities right.

The PM can try to manipulate the climate change agenda to claim the moral high ground at the Paris conference but he cannot first fix up the litter problem in his own country that has risen to epidemic proportions

So how do you suggest he (the PM) addresses the litter problem?

Perhaps he should divert money from seawall, road and bridge building to rural areas and employ many more cleaners?

How's about the people change their mindset, no cost and simple.

Dear Editor,

The price rise is not fully the governments but also the supplier, i.e. the Punja family.

I have learned that the Punja family uses the following method to justify its requests for increasing its prices for its products:

Punja family claims that to manufacture its products, it has to get the raw materials from another entity in Australia. The reality is that the company that Punjas is claiming to be buying from is actually he own shadow company setup by Punjas. What this really means is that the family is buying from itself, meaning that money just goes to Australia which is another tricky method of siphoning money out of Fiji and abroad.

The Punja family then go to the commerce commission and claim that because they have to buy products, they are forced to increase their prices in Fiji. Really, if someone takes a good look at Punja's operations, a lot of interesting information will come out but knowing Hari Punja and his close association with the boys in power, we know nothing will ever eventuate from this.

Dear Editor, perhaps an article or some investigation needs to be conducted into this duping and how the Punja family continues to become the fat shiny cats by ripping of the poor people in Fiji.

The practise of transfer pricing via under or over invoicing as a means of laundering money abroad is rife in Fiji and done by not only Punjas but by almost all businesses with off shore links. Billions of dollars are lost to the country as a result

If you are buying these items every two weeks you will be paying total vat $1919. In return baiKai you pay $50.00 for your childs school. This means you pay your childs fee not baikai.

How is it that some items are cheaper after the imposition of VAT? This change will give savings in that retailers do not have to maintain two separate rat

The irony of things is that Consumer council is pushing and threatening operators to make the changes and bump the prices up on the Commcomm price list . what's FRCA got to do with how business runs , you just mointer what you are paid to do. the funny part is that just few items the price has gone down. Consumer council idiots are pushing for higher prices .the truth is that your are threatening with 50k fine and prison for not changing 6 c to an items. Fiji government have gone mad ! you threaten people when you fail you threaten people when you want to win. pramilla is barking for no reason bloody fool. see the business community are even not speaking up. lamusona fools. the truth is no one can control your prices , basic items yes . in today's environment , competition is self inflicted by business , when you control prices you are controlling how much tax one will pay you. sick man , just sick

In addition the price of all items have gone up. The mental consumer council is media freak wannabe on the news doesn't even see the prices , just do it attitude , bullshit fool. Traders are aware of the fact that some items will be minimum price, no worth being on the shelf. One way traffic bullshit . The fact is new prices will apply when you buy and price new stock arriving after 1st January at 9% whereas you have paid 15% in 2015 . No one is talking about rebate of 6 % ? New prices naturally apply when suppliers invoice on 9% , so what this about changing prices on invoiced at 15%. Serious calculation issue with some people more enforcement attitude. Those business who have changed prices on everything are bunch of scared fools. Even the commerce gurus in Suva cannot speak , cowards fearing government repucussions. Go to fucken court and fight for your right to function bloody fool. Excuse the French , but his shows that people cannot speak without being targeted. There is no democracy in fiji. People are targeted for speaking the truth. And praised for sucking up to Dick heads.

The vat fiasco is really a joke. While it does mean well their are many ways that people can and will bypass the system and maybe not right away but business will gain from it eventually. You see this is what ASK simply does not get. The objective of business is to make money and if their are legal means to do this business owners will take the chance. Many many countries from India to China have tried to control the economy via regulations and have failed. The only way to keep business in check is to free up the economy, make doing business easier ,remove the regulations like price controls etc and get more competitors into the market. The free competitive market is the only way to keep prices in check that is lasting and beneficial.Government protects companies like FMF who become massive monopolies or duopolies and fix prices. As Shannon correctly points out the big players are buying from their own companies offshore and this has been on going for many many years. I came across this information by mistake when a former employee of the largest baby milk distributor in Fiji confessed even the name of the "shadow company to me in NZ". Who would do business for 6% margin (markup on baby milk) unless you had another way to skin the cat. My point is simple every economy from modern china, Hong kong to Singapore to NZ have open unregulated economies. As long you one sells sound good quality products and people get what they pay for we should let the customer decide. If business A is expensive no one will go to to that business. Its as simple as that. Government must decide if we are a Capitalist country or a socialist country with neo communist values. I think ASK knows this however his never ending lust for control and power is keeping him from making the correct decision. I think the reduction in vat and duties on certain items is good however i think the implementation is going to be a challenge.
