Editor,
In his letter ' Right of Free Speech ' in the Age 10/12 Nigel Jackson refers to the "... tendency of the elites that form the political establishment to stifle dissent..." It is a tendency people committed to democracy must vigilantly guard against.
Dissent is born out of a critical awareness of injustice and abuse in society often perpetrated by those in power and their cronies.
That critical awareness is ONLY possible when the public is well informed about what is going on in the country and what those in power are doing in their name.
That's where the Fijileaks comes in - to keep the public well informed.
It is not hard to see why some find that unpalatable.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
Tyranny is always evil but in some places it is a whole lot worse than in other places.
We learn from Jonathan Head's report in the BBC news this morning 11/12 that Paween Pongsirin the policeman who led the investigation into human trafficking in Thailand - following the discovery of mass graves at migrant camps earlier this year - has fled the country and is seeking asylum in Australia.
He said influential figures implicated in the trafficking wanted him dead. His investigation was halted by influential people in government, military and police. His investigation resulted in more than 150 arrest warrants issued - including for politicians, policemen and military figures...
It is not difficult to see why " influential people" parked in positions of power in government,in the military and the police might want him dead.
I recall when this human trafficking news first broke out the military junta in Thailand tried to pretend it did not exist and even put some journalists on trial for discrediting the military institution in Thailand .
But the truth has come out.
Read the fuller account in Jonathan Head's ' Thailand trafficking : Top policeman seeks Australia asylum' ( BBC News 11/12 ).
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Kicked-Out is good but Blacked-Out is bad.

It is pretty clear that even the Chor Party Education Minister has no respect for Khaiyum’s Fraud 2013 Constitution. Or why else would the Minister, so un-constitutionally, curtail ‘academic freedom’ at an institution of higher learning? It is not only very odd but absurd –especially coming from a former Professor (of academia) now turned a dirty Politician - via a Coupist plot.

Do we need any further PROVE that –that Khaiyum’s 2013 Constitution is a FRAUD – unable and defective to guarantee even the very basic of our rights like ’freedom of expression’- and for crying out loud- some freedom to THINK freely.

Either the ‘freedom of expression’ is practiced, in Fiji, especially in academia, as is explicitly stated in the 2013 Constitution OR Khaiyum’s 2013 Constitution is, as everyone says, a FRAUD. If Khaiyum’s own Education Minister can’t Respect Khaiyum’s 2013 Constitution – Why should we??

But on a high-note, let’s celebrate a toast to “Fijileaks” - the REAL defenders of our ‘freedom of expression’. Salute!!

From breeding ground (learners, scholars, future leaders) to dumping ground of corrupt, dishonest, disloyal people who give FNU such a repulsive reputation. This institute is rife with negative vibes and shameful outcomes; surely we do expect the relevant Minister and this Government to conduct a massive clean-up of the place and take out all who do not conform. Again i say; relook the current value of this merger of institutions and do something positive!!!

The main person was Ian Rosue for appointing them to these positions. Poasa and Louisa were dismissed long back for the same things and Ian brought them back to the position. so this means Ian was part of this corrupt practice.

There are many more like this and that needs to be cleaned as well to stop all abuse. check the current buying practice for hostel and kitchen. check the amount of buying for egg, tamarin, bed sheets and many more products and see.
