Udupi: Keshava Suvarna (50, pictured), owner of a fancy goods shop here and president of the Hejamady unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), was arrested by the Padubidri police on charges of sexually harassing two minor girls who had come to his shop.
The girls were of seven and six years of age. He allegedly showed them some porn clippings in his mobile phone and misbehaved with them, said the locals.
Traumatized by the act, the girls ran home and informed their families. On hearing the news, the public gathered and took him to task. When he was about to abandon the shop and trying to flee, the crowd caught hold of him and brought him back to the shop.
The police were informed and they took him into custody. Suvarna had got into trouble in 2012 by making dirty calls to the female owner of a local beauty parlour, after introducing himself to her as an LIC agent and obtaining her number. She was distressed over her behaviour and have even attempted suicide with a heavy intake of sleep-inducing tablets.
Following the 2012 incident, the VHP had announced to have distanced him. But he has continued to be actively involved with the organization until now. He is also serving as member of the managing committee of Hejamady Mahalingeshwara temple.
More details of his sexual misadventures in the past have come to light with this episode. He is said to have harassed many women over the past 30 years. About 25 years ago, he had harassed a Dalit woman. He had faced a case under the provisions of the laws governing cases of harassment to Dalits.
