MERITOCRACY? The Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs is stuffed with relatives of Foreign Minister Inoke Kubuabola and Fiji First Party supporters; all the high positions in the Foreign Ministry are given to Kubuabola's close friends, relatives and Fiji First supporters - two junior staffs, Eliki Salusalu, younger brother of Esala Teleni and Emosi Rakai (Kubuabola's nephew) in the UAE Embassy are behind the hounding of Ambassador Robin Nair - in overtly racist fashion! Esala Nayasi is another one - he is currently Acting Permanent Secretary, who just rose from the ranks of Second Secretary, Director Political and Treaties, Deputy Secretary Operations and now Acting Permanent Secretary. Kubuabola is refusing to act against Nayasi for 'swearing' at Nair! From Fijileaks Archives:

Swearing at Indians no matter what their rank and status had become quite acceptable among Fijian ethnonationalists since the first racist, military coup of 1987 in which Kubuabola was a key perpetrated. Nothing has really changed on thay front. Recall Bainimarama's abuse of opposition leader Bimabn prasad

You are right Chiku, sadly, the swearing at Indians has always been a feature of Fijian street discourse as well as those of the Fijian elite when they converse in private e.g. such terms are used to refer to Indians: Coolie, Carawai, Baku, Kulina, Boci, Dosi, etc etc.

the list of guttery nepotism & "diplomacy" is getting longer aye - misuse of credit card, overseas missions, overseas treatment, wreckless driving - killing innocent people, stealing..............its a circus - a flock of pigeons at the Sukuna Park is nothing compared to the characters of "what is in it for me" in the BaiKai's circus

Demeanour says it all. The body language is transparent even in photographs. Our eyes are the windows of our souls. Say no more! But for the nation's sake - fix it and give credit where it is due: equitably and honourably. If we are unable to do this, several years of professional and decent diplomatic service to us all will be wasted.
