MEDIA RELEASE

Privileged caste assertion insulting: NFP

Fiji’s Ambassador to Geneva’s reference to the indigenous Fijian or i-Taukei community institutionalizing discrimination and becoming a privileged caste before the promulgation of the 2013 Constitution is demeaning to our indigenous community.

We question whether it is the official policy of Voreqe Bainimarama’s Fiji First Government to castigate ethnic groups of our multicultural community to justify their case to be elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council.

"It is simply astonishing and worrying that Ambassador Nazhat Shameem chose to use a global megaphone to make a demeaning statement while conveniently steering clear from the human rights stock-take that the UN Human Rights Council is due, and ignoring the appalling state of human rights in Fiji."

Ambassador Shameem has basically camouflaged the real issue of human rights abuses in Fiji through limitations in the 2013 Constitution’s Bill of Rights, as well as several complaints made against police for alleged brutality, even resulting in death of one while in police custody, and the lackadaisical attitude adopted by the law enforcement agencies to promptly investigate such cases with impartiality.

For example, there has ben no official word on the circumstances surrounding the death of Vikarant Chandra while in police custody.

In another incident case has been bought to our attention, a female victim who was allegedly stripped naked in public view by police in January, is still awaiting answers and crying for justice more than a month.

She suffered cruel and degrading treatment but the police response has been lackadaisical and has even gone to the extent of accusing the victim of manufacturing her sorry saga."

"Very recently in Nadi, Ashneel Kumar was viciously assaulted by police who entered his residence by force, and he has lodged complaints to the Director of Fiji Human Rights Commission as well the Attorney General on 6th March."

"The onus on these appalling issues of recurring serious human rights violations by organs of the State, that we know about, is on the Government. It must show its sincerity as a measure of its worthiness of recent ratification to the UN Convention on Torture, and prove that to the nation that it is ready to be considered by the world as an upstanding candidate for the UN Human Rights Council seat."

Ambassador Shameem’s conduct of playing the blame game, without providing statistical data on what happened, and whether equal citizenry and  the Bill of Rights under the 2013 Constitution is eradicating racism, is hallmark of this Government.

Unless and until this happens, Fiji is not worthy of a seat on the UN Human Rights Council.

Nazhat Shameem's speech is nothing but a rationalisation. As an inner circle member of the Bainimarama -Khaiyum gang who unlawfully took over the government of Fiji in the military coup of 2006 she has been defending the usurpers and their abuse of human rights and democratic freedoms from day one. She is where she is currently courtesy of the usurpers. She wants to pretend that the usurpers and their defenders and apologists ( like herself ) were motivated by noble reasons to undertake the regime change in Fiji to remedy the existing societal anomalies like institutionalised racism and shape a new and "better Fiji" and " true democracy " and all that. Like the coupist Bainimarama who made the bogus claim he was carrying out a " clean up " campaign Madam Shameem is making the spurious claims she is making to justify the unlawful takeover and all that the thug rulers of Fiji have been doing ever since, including the trashing of the 1997 constitution and the imposition of the Bainimarama-Khaiyum constitution.
No amount of pious pontification from Madam Shameen can hide the fact that the takeover was simply a power grab and she was a linchpin party to it.
Like the twin dictators of Fiji - Bainimarama and Khaiyum - who have granted themselves immunity and have become an untouchable "privileged caste " in Fiji, Madam Nazhat Shameem too has become a member of that extra specially caste in the new Fiji of their creation.

There are two things we see of importance here. Firstly, we see nothing wrong with what Ambassador Shameem has expressed to the UN Forum. Indeed, it was about time, that such important race-relations issues are as elegantly presented, as Ambassdor Shameem has done so, to this esteemed Forum. Bravo! We are Proud of YOU. If any genuine indigenous rights issues remain then those need to be astutely itemized and articulated.

Let us explicitly point out to the NFP which ‘privileged castes’ she may have spoken of –a). The Racist Rabuka’s caste – who had racial discrimination as their ONLY national development Policy. And, b). She may have spoken of the RACIST SDL Qarase’s ‘priviledged caste’ which shamelessly and openly Discriminated and STOLE ‘the allocated’ rehabilitation funds of the Girmit Center Refugees , for Vote-buying purposes. They did this ONLY because they were RACISTS. And we are glad that the UN has been pointed out to this FACT of RACISM and Discrimination against the Indo-Fijian community in the BS guise of indigenous rights.

Perhaps, she may also have meant the ‘privillaged Bai/Kai Castes’ of the most pitiable IP thieves’ on planet earth, who so shamelessly STOLE the party name belonging to the Refugees – because they are RACISTs as well.

Is NFP feeling sorry for these crooks and these rotten castes of the shameless RACIST Chors? Then shame on NFP!

Secondly, instead of feeling unnecessarily sensitive, the NFP should focus on the illegitimacy of the FRAUD and IMPOSED 2013 Constitution of Khaiyum, which is the REAL issue here, isn’t it? ‘Na rahi baas no bhaji baasri’. No, NFP would NOT do that – because it is a beneficiary to this FRAUD and IMPOSED 2013 Constitution of Khaiyum.

Dr Biman the only real thorn in FFP side. FFP actions has become subtle in the beginning to completely blatant now. They have no fear of anything. In the US a president can serve only two terms ( 8 years ) and has to step down .This prevents corruption and gives everyone a chance at the presidency. Here we don't have that law and never will .FFP wants to rule forever and the corruption has already started.
