Fiji's Media Industry Development Authority has confirmed the resignation of director Matai Akauola who has left to contest the 2014 Election under the FijiFirst banner. Speaking to FijiLive, MIDA chairperson Ashwin Raj said Akauola tendered his resignation after declaring his interest to contest the 2014 Elections. “Mr. Akauola did tender his resignation last week declaring his desire to contest the national election," Raj said. “The MIDA respects his right to contest the national election and has accepted his resignation. It is imperative that MIDA remains independent at all times and must not align itself with any political actors." He further acknowledged Akauola's contribution "towards fostering an ethos of a robust and responsible Fijian media.”

Dear Mr [Rajesh] Singh,
I find the demanding tone of your e-mails, continuous casting of aspersion towards the MIDA Director, introduction of new evidence -the veracity of which is highly questionable- well after the submission of your initial complaint, persistent insinuation that MIDA is compromised, unacceptable. Please note that MIDA Board will soon convene to deliberate on this matter and a final decision will be conveyed to you. I will have no other option but to drop your complaint if MIDA receives any more demanding e-mails from you.
