MISPLACED STATEMENT: THE Opposition fails to see the string of very serious allegations against Ganesh Chand; we wonder why he was NOT booted out LONG AGO

Fijileaks is happy to have finally seen Chand SACKED; now he should be taken in for questioning by FICAC over spate of alleged wrong-doings! Even Police should be involved over alleged cover-up for his brother at the Labasa campus for alleged sexual assault against a student which was reported to Bainimarama, then self-appointed Prime Minister!
AND THIS MAN should come out of hiding and explain why he failed to act against a string of complaints to him in 2012 against Chand, and now against his side-kick and Education Minister Reddy who is still intimidating and harassing Mrs Basundra Kumar

STICKY APPOINTMENT: Ganesh Chand's cousin Kamlesh Prakash appointed a 'syrup maker' as electrical expert and when a senior staffer questioned the appointment he was SACKED, and Bainimarama turned a deaf ear for Chand (with Reddy) was writing the regime's Budgets!

Bula Mr Lal.

My name is ____________(name and job description withheld) and I was  ________when the merger with FNU took place. In my opinion the merger idea was never a good idea as it was motivated by the need for Ganesh to get his hands on the Levy funds. Anyway Ganesh appointed his first cousin Kamlesh Prakash as Director NTPC and it turned out that Kamlesh and Ganesh were birds of a feather. Please see attached email correspondence between myself, the Manager Electrical Training (Technical Experts) and Kamlesh when he appointed a training officer without following due process only to find out that the person he appointed was a syrup maker and not a trained Electrical expert. You will see that Kamlesh is as much a dictator as Ganesh. You may print the email but please keep the names out as some are still working at NTPC. I was eventually pushed out by Kamlesh because I would not allow myself to compromise my principles. I have also attached some documents relating to my case

AND just look at the injustice - Chand reportedly walking away with one and half years salary, with Opposition talking about due process on behalf of Chand! BLOODY SPEAK UP FOR SCORES OF HIS VICTIMS!

It would be a great miscarriage of justice is Ganesh Chand does not face the full brunt of the law for his actions. He has destroyed many a lives and careers and caused irreparable damage to education in Fiji by making a mockery of it due to his unscrupulous ways. He needs to be taken to task if ficac, and the rest of the justice system are still independent. Sparing Ganesh Chand would prove beyond all doubts that ficac prosecutes selectively in which case it should be shut down because it is propagating injustice rather than justice. If ASK has an iota of ethical values in him due to his legal training, he, as the actual head of government, needs to take reddy and Ganesh to task before they cause further damage to the county's education sector.

Ganesh denied his staff proper hearing and severance pay, but wants 1.5 yrs salary for himself! This shows the greed and injustice of this scoundrel. Only thinks of himself. Thank God he was removed. Good riddance. This government will be the most unjust if it gives ganesh the pay. It will be rewarding incompetence.

Victor Lal and Fijileaks doing country a great service by exposing people like ganesh and forcing their sacking.

Keep up the good work. Do not slow down.

Its really sad to see the pathetic level of leadership the people of Fiji are being subjected to.
Keep up the good fight Ms Basundra - haven't met you but you sound to me like a fair , honest and good leader. God Bless and remember that the righteous will be blessed.
Vinaka Victor Lal keep up the great work ,,,,,,,,justice is alive via Fiji leaks

It is obvious the SODELPA opposition has been misled by Biman Prasad who is a close buddy of Ganesh Chand and has remained so for years. They have been department colleagues at USP and members of pressure cell " USP MAFIA" who at the time was a resistence force mostly comprising Indo-Fijian local junior/intermediate grade academics. They were known for opposing expatriates and their appointments at strategic levels. The "USP MAFIA" thrived for quite some time and was eventually uprooted by the late VC Savenaca Siwatibau.

The joint statement by reps of opposition parties is an irresponsible one.

When calling for an enquiry on Ganesh Chand sacking they failed to qualify what needed to be the scope and appropriate terms of reference. They failed to reference the data on the ground in terms of so many complaints on matters pertaining to corruption, nepotism, harrassment, unfair terminations, discrimination and simply BAD governance. Quite a bit has already been highlighted by fijileaks over the months.

A call for an enquiry is good. But shouldnt the terms of reference be inclusive of how Ganesh chand was appointed?, did he have the neccessary requirements? What were the barrage of complaints against him? What remedies took place? What statistics exist in terms of unfair dismissals registered with ministry of labour? The nature of complaints? The FICAC investigations and the Fiji higher education commision statistics on issues raised and events leading up to Ganesh Chand termination.

The Ganesh Chand termination per se cannot be looked at in isolation.

The hundereds of Fiji citizens whose career and life has been affected are asking why it has taken so long to boot him out.

As an academic did Biman Prasad bother to know what other fellow academics and staff were going thru at FNU? He has been rubbing shoulders with Ganesh Chand and now wants to be his advocate in parliament.

In the face of all complaints and issues raised, isnt the government obligated to act ? The state being a sponsor has responsibility to ensure stakeholders are protected,

This has nothing to do with academic freedom. Academic freedom is intact as under the FNU decree. This is simply a management, governance, performance of a CEO and control matter. Having privy to heaps of info on FNU , the sponsor has the right to look at wider interests and take some decision.

Good riddance. Biman Prasad come out of academia, cut out the buddy business prevalent in academia, declare your interests and contribute objectively for the betterment of education sector in this nation.

As for SODELPA, the largest opposition party in parliament consider getting professional and quality parliamentary researchers to provide high quality material. Show to the nation you are capable of running the alternative government.

I'm dying to hear what Biman Prasad has to say about academic freedom at the USP from where the highly critical (of illegal regimes) Prof. Wadan Narsey was removed (though it looked like a resignation). Oh wait, there was nothing said then. Political expediance, Biman?

Biman, mahen reddy and ganesh chand are old buddies, the USP cane belt mafia. Mahen Reddy was praising Ganesh and claiming that the resignation was mutual, but Ganesh contradicted him by saying he did not know why he was sacked.

Academic freedom is 'cry wolf'. Ganesh Chand's sacking had nothing to do with academic freedom. In fact, Ganesh never uttered a word against the regime, so what academic freedom are you talking about Biman? We are not fools. Ganesh was a regime stooge and appointee until his mismanagement became too much even for the regime to cover up. So talk about academic freedom apparently coming from Biman is crap.

We read that you, Biman, were Wadan Narsey's immediate supervisor when he was sacked from USP, but you failed to stand up for him. Where was your concern about academic freedom then, Biman? You are truly an unscrupulous political animal, aren't you.

Fijileaks has done a wonderful job forcing the ouster of an incompetent VC and people like Biman are circling the wagon and trying to protect him and gain political mileage out of it.

It is a pathetic state of affairs.

It is absolutely correct that Ganesh is and was an abomination to the institute of higher learning that he led and that he was a key Advisor to the Baiyum's while supporting their coup of 2006 under the 'mantra of mandate'. However it is a bit of a stretch to assume that his integrity is being protected in this instance.

The bottom line is that fair-play must be upheld especially in regards to employment. What is playing out now (and will be heightened soon) is that there are simply no guarantees even for those in the snake pit. I wonder if the emerging patterns of frequent dispensability is registering yet among the asp's slithering around there or whether blissful ignorance is an easier pill to swallow?

From all accounts it is more plausible to believe that Ganesh is a mere pawn. In order to save him, the Bishop to tumbles.

Ganesh was a hard hitting, forthwith academic who will make not only his staff to deliver but also his students to learn.
He was very effective on the merger of the various institutions in Fiji and handling some very tough unions.
I know there is a lot of speculation about his activities and style of management.
I think that Dr Chand is still a man of integrity and I challenge all you guys commenting in this blog to report to police if you have a grain of evidence against him.

Dr Ganesh Chand WAS a man of integrity but forfeited it when he throw in his support behind the Dictatorship in Fiji. Now he is just another academic who has gone to seed because he lost his moral compass and embraced what was politically expedient FOR HIM!
What a shame!
