Fijileaks: We sought clarification from Raj after we were inundated with requests to clarify if he had become Dr Raj; we appreciate his response; please also be informed that we are not approving some of your vile comments against Raj, which has nothing to do with his clarification!

WATCHDOGS OR SLEEPY DOGS? Surely, a sudden change in title should have pricked the journalists grey matter; after all they have been dealing with MR Raj as MIDA boss for many years now!
We do not know if Raj himself had clarified or had pointed out to them the PACMAS cock-up (ironically, [PACMAS] was spending thousands of dollars to drill into journalists to report accurately) when he [Raj] rose to
lecture on "Media & Parliament"?

We accept his explanation, and we are also grateful to Fijileaks for obtaining a comment from him - which is a first on his part.

But, maybe, after the Paratha story, he can't eat his way out.

What baffles me is this - when he spoke - he saw he was LISTED as DR Ashwin Raj

Did he inform the gathering, including the media, that he was not a Dr and that PACMAS had conferred the TITLE on him, so please ignore it.

Unless he allowed it, for Fiji Times addressed him in that photo caption as Dr.

So, who to believe or is it Fijileaks caught him out?

Look there are a lot of people in possession of the genuine title of Dr having completed a PhD but it is not uncommon to find them talking shit if not talking stupid. Worse still many can be morally bankrupt.
So for me whether Ashwin Raj allowed himself the use of a fictitious Dr title is no big deal. He is after all a lackey of the Fijian dictatorship . The dictatorship entrenched itself in power through lies and deceit. Why won't a regime lackey engage in that as well?

Ethically,l and morally the dentist speaker of Parliament, Dr Tiko Luveni with only a Diploma and Ashwin Raj, who holds a Masters Degree, are not entitled to use or be called by the title Doctor. It only goes to show the low standards our media has descended to that the titles still appear in the print media and on our air waves. Ashwin Raj came out to Fiji Leaks to correct the error. Tiko Luveni should do the right thing and publically declare the misnomer.
But I know she won't because our public system has become decrepit with no ethical and moral foundation. As a younger idealistic student Aitaz Khaiyum can hurl criticism at the Fijian Council of Chiefs and the Fiji Muslim League, years later as Chief Legal aid fiver of the land he selectively applies the virtues that undergird his profession to allow deception n the use of titles by no less than the holder of the high office of speaker of our nation's Parliament.

Good work Victor. As Pita says, ethically and morally Mr Raj is not entitled to us Dr. He wants the honorific without doing the required work. Never mind his feeble excuses. By not correcting the error mmediately, he perpetuated the falsehood.

He talks a lot about media standards. Please ask him whether as MIDA boss he clarified to the fiji times and fiji sun that he is not 'Dr' and make a correction. As MIDA boss he should have done the right thing and issued a retraction without being reminded. But he did not. He was preaching about ethics and accuracy but didn't not set an example by doing he ethical thing himself.

People of fiji who read the Fiji times are being deceived. Fiji times needs to make a correction. If mr Raj is really concerned about ethics and accuracy he should send out a media statement in his capacity MIDA boss setting the record straight. Otherwise he has no moral right to preach about media ethics. In fact after this incident he does not have the moral authority to be MIDA boss.

This is no small matter. In any country where the rule of law prevails he would be forced to resign but in bainimarma's animal farm he is still free to pontificate about media ethics. If Mr Raj won't retract, than fiji times needs to issue a correction because many readers still think mr raj is dr raj. Hope you can write to fiji times if raj doesn't take the initiative Victor.
