PIO TIKODUADUA informs Fiji Sun's Delaibatiki why Dr Neil Sharma voted with the Opposition and how 'dictatorial' Khaiyum wanted to teach other FFP MPs a lesson by forcing Sharma to resign from Government

CLIMATE OF BULLYING AND RESIGNATION OVER CLIMATE CHANGE MISSION. Fijileaks: Coming soon, how Aiyaz Khaiyum (based on internal  documents and emails) was behind the removal of Foreign Affairs PS and former ambassador Robin Nair following COP23 internal power struggle!

"There is a paranoid element in the FijiFirst Party that treats any sign of dissension as a threat which must be immediately suppressed. This is similar to the Soviet Union in the time of Josef Stalin. In Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s words, Dr Sharma had to be “made an example”. He had to be forced out of Parliament to warn other MPs not to do the same."

LETTER TO THE FIJI SUN BY #NFP INTENDING CANDIDATE - PIO TIKODUADUA
---------------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday 19 April Nemani Delaibatiki wrote an “analysis” piece in the Fiji Sun headed “Pio Tikoduadua’s Lack of Understanding of How Parties Work Shows Through Now.”

He was commenting on the incident that caused me to leave the Fiji First Government in 2015. This was my disagreement with Prime Minister Honourable Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney General Honourable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on how to handle the dissent of Fiji First MP Dr Neil Sharma.

Nemani suggests that I do not understand how political parties work or the need for party discipline in parliamentary voting. This criticism is certainly new. I never suffered such criticism when I was a member of the Fiji First Party government!

You do not need to be a genius to know that a governing party needs all of its MPs to vote for its position on important legislation. If its MPs do not, the governing party does not achieve its policy aims and it is not being faithful to the voters who elected it.

But Dr Sharma did not vote against government legislation. He voted with the Opposition on a Friday afternoon adjournment motion, the kind where Parliament expresses a view about a particular issue, often raised by the Opposition.

Adjournment motions do not spend government money. They do not create new laws. They are a chance for MPs to discuss with each other what the people are talking about. Often the Opposition takes advantage of this opportunity. The Opposition also represents citizens of our country and their voices should also be heard. Adjournment motions are an opportunity for the Government to talk less and listen more.

I do not even recall the exact terms of the motion. I think it called for action on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Dr Sharma is a medical doctor. He is a former Minister for Health. No doubt he felt strongly about these issues. He voted with the Opposition.

There is a paranoid element in the FijiFirst Party that treats any sign of dissension as a threat which must be immediately suppressed. This is similar to the Soviet Union in the time of Josef Stalin. In Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s words, Dr Sharma had to be “made an example”. He had to be forced out of Parliament to warn other MPs not to do the same.

The Fiji First Party has 32 out of 50 seats in Parliament. This was an adjournment motion. It did not compel the Government to do anything (except listen to some opposing views for a few minutes).

For anyone who is paying attention, NCDs are right now the biggest threat to the health and well-being of Fiji’s people. If a Government MP votes with the Opposition, that is a wake-up call for the Government. The Government needs to listen and learn about why that MP feels so strongly that he would put at risk his relationship with his fellow party members.

Dissent, in the right measure, strengthens, not weakens, organisations. It means that we are keeping an open mind and looking for better ways to meet our goals.

Weak people fear dissent. They are not confident that their arguments are better than the dissenters. They are afraid of other people being seen to be better than they are.

So, Nemani, party discipline certainly has its place in Parliamentary government. But imagination, tolerance and listening to other points of view is how you strengthen your party for the future. People who know that you are listening to them, not dictating to them or threatening them, are the people who will vote with you when you really need the support.

That is how strong political parties work. The same is true of nations.

Pio Tikoduadua.

"Treasonous Pio" as a key military officer knew exactly what was involved in their dictatorial dog-eat-dog regime in which he had spent 9 years. Phew, NINE whole years... so what is he complaining about?

All law-abiding Fijians knew it was always going to be "mission impossible from the get-go of committing TREASON" - only a first-class idiot would've expected to build a solid foundation on shifting sands.

And so what if Treasonous Pio was not in Fiji during the execution of the Dec 2006 coup. Did he not return to Fiji soon after the fact i.e. just a few weeks following the Dec06 coup? See how he feebly tries to distance himself in his press statement (perhaps an indication he doesn't have much confidence in their own IMMUNITY!) -

"At the time of the 2006 coup, I was studying in Canberra at the Australian Command and Staff College. [So what?] I joined the RFMF-led Government, initially as Permanent Secretary for Justice [was this in Feb/Mar 2007, a few weeks after the coup?] and later serving the Commander RFMF and Prime Minister as Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister from 2008 to 2014."

What a colossal mistake taking in this treasonous defector to contest next year's elections on an NFP ticket.

'Pio Opens Up', FijiTimes edition of 17 April 2017 -

"He said after staying in the village for two years following his untimely resignation, he needed to get things off his chest.

'And I needed to get this off my chest. Because there is no doubt about me being sick, and I am still sick. I am taking a lot of medication.'"

Tic tok tic tok...

Editor,
Malicious Prosecution
We read in NBC News 21/4 article ' Charity Worker Detained in Egypt for 3 years Credits Trump for Release' that Egyptian-American charity worker Aya Hijazi (30) returned home to Washington Thurday after spending 3 years in an Egyptian jail over what human rights groups say we're bogus charges. No evidence was produced on the fictitious charges.
She shook hands with President Trump Friday at the White House . Her lawyer said Trump had helped secure her release following Egyptian military coupist turned president Sisi's recent visit .
How many more journalists, regime opponents and critics are languishing in Egyptian jails on bogus charges?
But America has now restored relations and military aid after the end of the Mubarak dictatorship and the transition to Sisi's " democratic " Egypt.
What kind of " democracy " is it that arbitrarily throws people in jail on bogus charges?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Former Bainimarama and Khaiyum coup chum Pio Tikoduadua now tells us in the year 2017 that " There is a paranoid element in the Fiji First Party that treats any sign of dissension as a threat which must be immediately suppressed ". That's so very true. But Pio has come to see that so very late. And, we understand why : because he was an integral part of the Bainimarama - Khaiyum regime.
In actual fact that immediate and often ruthless suppression of dissension, dissent, critics and opponents began from day one of the 2006 Bainimarama coup and the subsequent establishment of the Bainimarama dictatorship . In 2014 the Bainimarama dictatorship reinvented itself as the Fiji First Party ( with a stolen party name ) and hang onto power as a " democratic" government following a gerrymandered election. Since then it has been masquerading as a democratic government. But independent observers know "democracy" is only skin deep in Fiji ( and mostly for show to the international community). Lurking just beneath the " democracy " skin is the same Bainimarama- Khaiyum dictatorship.
That is why it's behaviour " is similar to the Soviet Union in the time of Josef Stalin " ( and some say the Stalinist style has been revived by Putin in the present time ).
It is good Pio has come to see the true character of the Fiji First Party / the Bainimarama-Khaiyum dictatorship - even if belatedly.

At least Pio had the guts to stand up to the token PM, his former boss and the super Minister of Everything. He could have been like the rest and gone along with the nonsense. Accolades for having the guts and speaking out on the autocrats. We await further revelation on the corruption, injustices and the intimidation practiiced by FFP. You have joined a progressive Party and have alot to contribute to strenghten our multircial platoform. Good on you bro and don't give two hoods to Rabuka who now looks more likely than anyone to jump into bed with Bainimarama, given how he has eroded SODELPA powebase.

Chiku, yr analysis was fine until u mentioned Stalin and Putin. Why did you have to bring them into it? Stalin murdered 20 million of his citizens. You could very well attribute the death of CRW soldiers to Bainimarama, and while every life is sacred in terms of numbers there is no comparison between Stalin and Bainimarama. As for Putin I would say hundreds of thousands have been murdered at the hands of the two Bushes, Dick Cheney, Obama and Hilary Clinton. Point a finger them first before trying to drag in the name of Putin.

I agree fully with what you say about "the two Bushes, Dick Cheney, Obama and Hilary Clinton ". According to some human rights groups some of these people together with Tony Blair and John Howard should be put on trial at the ICC for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The crimes of these leaders from Western democracies does not turn Putin into an angel, does it? And, Stalin's slaughter of his own people does turn turn Bainimarama into an angel. Rogue leaders are rogue leaders - some more rogue than others.

Bullying together with Buldozing,Bulshiting, Butaraki and Bemaani is what Bainimarama and his thugs have been doing since day one of their unlawful takeover. Innocent citizens and courageous critics have been victimised and have been suffering at the hands of the Bainimarama regime's bullying, often directed by his right hand man Aiyaz Khaiyum.
My sympathy and solidarity is reserved for these victims of the Bullying Bainimarama Regime. Not its erstwhile supporters and beneficiaries.

Editor,
Culture of Bullying
Breaking news on abc 27/4 the Australian Olympic Committee media director Mike Tancred is standing down from his position pending investigation into allegations of bullying made against him by former CEO of AOC and another person.
Bullying is taken seriously in contemporary Australian society.
Has anyone ever had to stand down from his or her position in Fiji for bullying?
We know from social media reports that Fiji still has a bullying culture with bullies parked in the civil service, in the teaching profession, in government, in the universities, in sports organisations, in civil society organisations, in religious organisations...
In Fiji bullying is tacitly and often timidly accepted.
That's why no bully ever stands down.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
