ABOUT 200 people turned up this morning to be part of the Sadhu Kuppuswamy Day celebration at the Suva Sangam High School in Suva.

Chief Guest and Minister for Local Government, Environment, Housing, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Kumar says the celebration marks the life of Sadhu Kuppuswamy, the man who in 1926, pioneered and founded the TISI Sangam, an institution which promotes the culture and language of South Indian indentured labourers in Fiji.

India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam national president Sada Sivan Naicker says the yearly celebration is something the Sangam community looks forward to every year.

Kuppuswamy was born in Madras in 1890. He arrived in Fiji in 1912 and was the President of the T.l.S.I Sangam in Nadi.

According to Mr Naicker the epidemic of 1918 in Fiji witnessed him as a hero and a saint. His passion for Sangam resulted in the opening of the first Sangam School in Nadi in 1927

Sangam should be ashamed of bringing such a person to an educational institution. What sort of role model are you showing to the future leaders.

This is almost like a shot out of an Indian film where we see political thugs forever going to temples to offer prayers and to charities to make " donations " from their ill gotten gains.
It's just a front to project the image of a pious leader.
That is the case with Bala. But we know he is just an arse licker who worms his way in politics by aligning himself with who ever is the dominant political player. Right now it's Aiyaz Khaiyum.Remember that Fijileaks photo of the two together...

Sangam has become a mere shadow of the noble community organisation it's founding fathers had originally conceived it to be. They were truly dedicated, selfish leaders who genuinely wanted a better world for its target population, the South Indians, but also for the Fiji society at large. It had a proud tradition of community development.
Now it has become mostly a refuge for scoundrels who attaché themselves to the organisation for their own self- aggrandisement. Bala fits the bill.

Sangam should make a statue of Bala and place it in a Sangam urinal so that decent, self respecting Madrasis can piss on it.
