NFP‬ MPS AUTHORISE SALARY DEDUCTIONS TO GO TOWARDS TC WINSTON RELIEF WORK - 10 AND 50% CONTRIBUTIONS

The three Members of the National Federation Party who are part of the parliamentary opposition will contribute a total of thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000.00) from their annual salaries towards relief and rehabilitation work being carried out following the devastation caused by severe tropical cyclone Winston.

Two MPs will have ten (10%) percent of their salaries deducted while the Party Leader has authorised fifty percent (50%) of his annual salary to be deducted. This would bring the total contribution to $35,000.00.

The NFP supports the decision of SODELPA parliamentary colleagues in Opposition to contribute ten percent of their annual salaries, totalling $77,000, towards relief work.

The three NFP MPs have written to the Secretary-General to Parliament authorising the deduction of their salaries.

The deductions will be from 15th March 2016 to 15th March 2017.

All three MPs have visited the cyclone ravaged areas in Viti Levu in the past two weeks and agree that the contribution of part of their salaries is the least they can do as part of their on-going efforts along with hundreds of Good Samaritans, donor agencies, the international community and Government to carry out relief, rehabilitation and humanitarian work following the devastation caused by the worst ever natural disaster to hit Fiji.

The Secretary-General will be informed in the 7 days as to how to disburse the funds following the MPs providing the names of organisations and bank accounts of those directly involved in relief and rehabilitation work.

Editor,
It makes me feel good to see my bro and my friend from USP Joeli and others deliver relief supplies to people in dire need in the aftermath of Winston.
I know it's not the first time they have done that.
Vijay's yaca is raising funds in Sydney and so far over $Aus 12,000 has been raised to deliver aid to the people of Fiji.
I know many other Fiji people living overseas are doing the same.
I therefore can't understand why the regular anti-intellectual letter writer to the Fiji Times Allen Lockington has to write " I bet some people now living overseas must be scratching their heads and wondering how come all the aid is flowing to Fiji for the victims of severe TC Winston" ( Fiji Times 6/03 ).
Why should they be doing that?
It is only logical that Fiji people living overseas should lend a helping hand at a time of desperate need in their home country.
What is there to be scratching ones head about?
Even non Fiji people living overseas are contributing in the aid effort.
Is Lockington projecting his own prejudice against " people now living overseas", like that other fellow who said Fijians now living overseas should not be writing letters to editor in Fiji newspaper?
Grow up man.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Why can't some one give a generator link

Can Vinod Patel, RC Manubhai or even better PM cyclone appeal give a generator! Or are they shitting in their pants since Baini or Khaiyum take them to task. It's known information that Khiaiyum personally called senior Dayal and asked him to warn his son against posting anti regime news! There are genuine people needing assistance. If one notices the regime sucking businesses and institutes were and are rushing to donate to Prime Ministers cyclone funds. Why can't they donate something without getting photos taken and having Baini or Kaiyum in picture. What is the point. To date where and for what the PM cyclone appeal money will or has been used is unclear. Anyone has been given tents, generators, water tanks, building material in the west or Tailevu given from this funds. What will that money in PM collection be used ? Definitely to make his regime suckers richer while the rest of people can carry on begging and struggling.

Vinaka vijay and Joeli for your initiative. Your example has finally promoted USP into action. The usually tight-fisted VC Rajesh Chandra announced a donation of 100k only last Friday. It is a mystery why USP did not do something earlier with all it's well paid planners and senior management team but better late than never.

!00K last week, to the Chor Fund (aka PM's Relief Fund). USP should have, and could have, mobilised a number of volunteer brigades helping in rebuilding immediately after the TCW, But seems all of them were on vacation. Such a sad indictment on USP leadership.
