RAPE MANIA: One in Four Women Have Been Raped in Fiji: FWCC

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre said their statistics show that about one in four women have been raped in Fiji. Coordinator Shamima Ali said the National Survey also shows that 16% of the women surveyed said their first sexual encounter was when they were under 15 years of age, and that they were forced to have sex.
In India, certain segments of society are so sick of rapists that they have taken the law into their own hands:

Despite the horrific and public nature of the attack, the violent mob is an embodiment of India's increasingly tough stance towards - and disgust for sexual violence against women

The merciless crowd broke into a prison in the city of Dimapur and kidnapped the man accused of raping a student

Furious: Several thousand people gathered as the man accused of raping a girl last month was mercilessly beaten to death

Lynched: The gang overpowered security at the Central Jail in the city of Dimapur and grabbed the man before beating him to death. It is unclear whether he is dead in this shocking image

Shocking: The man allegedly raped a student from a local women's college multiple times in February and he was arrested a day later

When being raped, she shouldn't fight back. She should just be silent and allow the rape... A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy.

Indian is an ancient civilisation with remarkable and magnificent accomplishments to its name that Indians can justifiably be proud of. It has also given humanity two great religions of the world, Hinduism and Buddism for moral guidance and ethical behaviour. But no matter how high a civilisation the reality is that civilisation is only skin deep. Lurking just beneath is human savagery. This amply demonstrated by the rapist in this case and all the other cases widespread in india. And it is also amply demonstrated by the lynching of this rapist by an Indian mob. Indians can't be proud of that.

Can FWCC qualify their statements that 25%of woman have been raped in Fiji.Such statistics is alarming and one hopes this is not politically motivated.

If for instance it is found to be politically motivated than they should be taken to task, and if they have bai/kai issues than deal with them in appropriate forums.

Fiji's reputation and development has been built upon the sacrifices of our forefathers and nobody has the right, be it politicians or NGO's to tarnish that.

So go on FWCC,back up your statements with facts.

And, whose favourite expression is " they should be taken to task "? Not the same gang who took over power unlawfully in 2006?
Did the FWCC pluck the data on sexual assault against women in Fiji out of thin air? The statistics is indeed alarming but why must it politically motivated?
Hasn't this been a social issue raised by the FWCC since it was set up in the early 1980s?
Only the statistics have changed - for the worse!

FWCC statements are outrageous and one can only assume it is politically motivated in the absence of hard data.

Such statements can only harm the investments in fiji particularly tourism.

And for everyone's benefit i don't represent any political agenda, Infact i fell prey to the perpetrators of 2006 coup.

The use of the term 'outrageous' gives Qualify FWCC away. The outrage is that perpetrated upon women and female visitors to Fiji who have been attacked or stalked for the purpose of rape or attempted rape. These men have not been charged or when they have been in the past ten to fifteen years they have been permitted an escape from justice. This can be verified by those of us who have painstakingly witnessed them in courts or have attempted to ensure that victims had their complaints followed through to prosecution. Fiji must strenuously be protecting the rights and health needs of victims of aggravated rape. Blaming the victim after the violation will only serve to damage reputation not enhance it. Evidence is readily available on absconders overseas. Fiji's women and children deserve a higher standard and so do visitors.

What has FWCC done to enhance woman agenda, empowerment and self worth...all we hear is male hate agenda and exergerated data.

What have they done to bring more understanding between a man and woman, what are their programs and what are the results?

What is the succession plan at FWCC and where are the millions spent?

And what happened to the RFMF regimental fund which the Fijian military chiefs did not want audited. Talk about that. The FWCC funds are under proper accountability. The same can't be said about the use or rather the abuse of public money by the Bainimarama " interim" government from 2006 to 2014.

Conviently they divert answers by coercing PM into the debate, remember 'secrecy is the keystone for all tyrannys' aptly put...they hang out at fancy bistros and drink expensive coffee while real victims continue to suffer in villages and rural farms..apart from hate agenda and peddling in politics they have no programmes,or record of empowering women other than stereotyping man...

The evidence on the alleged stalker/rapist who absconded to Canada is still available. His complicit employer is known. Those who treated his alleged victim are known since attempted suicide was pending. Relevant authorities were scrupulously advised but Nil outcome. Three FWCC women appeared to give support to the alleged perpetrator in the Magistrates Court. He consulted his mobile phone for further support? Nonchalant, even arrogant in his demeanour throughout
