FIJI'S permanent representative to Geneva Nazhat Shameem will be the chief negotiator as Fiji takes on the COP 23 presidency in Bonn, Germany later this year.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed this in the first 2017 session of Parliament today as he called for support on Fiji's leadership at the COP 23 meeting.

Minister for Agriculture, Rural & Maritime Development & National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu is the climate champion, and the designated ambassador will be Fiji's envoy to Brussels Deo Saran.

Mr Bainimarama said the COP23 presidency required international engagements so the domestic agenda does not suffer.

As he called on the other side of the House not to politicise this issue, said in so many ways, this was the "fight of our lives for our lives". Source: Fiji Times, 6 February 2017

Global warming is fraud. There are periods in the esrth's history when the temperature was hotter than present times. The sea level is rising not because of climatic factors but because of plate tectonics - the Pacific plate is sliding under the Austronesian plate and pulling islands down with it hence giving the impression of a rising sea level. But as "climate gate" of the UN Panel on Climate Change showed data can be manipulated to extract money from the international community

The manner of the deportation of the Refugee Sawari has been a shameful day for Fiji. Just admit that first- PM before you talk any further ‘International Conventions’. Be consistent!

Fiji has no respects to International Conventions and Laws on the ‘rights’ of the Refugees and Asylum seekers –as it has been blithely exhibited – indeed, the world show a beaten and crying Refugee Sawari led by state bullies into the plane.

Then with what pathetic fake face would PM Bainimarama appear to an International audience to honour International Conventions on Climate Change?

And your Party PM has no respects for others’ Intellectual Properties as well and which well known makes you a pitiable IP Thief (Chor). Go fool the other world Leaders in COP23 with your fakeness.

Editor,
Leaders Are Meant To Do What's Right.
The political leadership in Romania did not do what's right. They tried to sneak in a law by decree to decriminalise corruption which would have let off hundreds of politicians and state officials who face corruption charges. After 6 days of mass protest by the people, a vast majority of whom had actually voted in the current Social Democrat government in power only two months ago in December, they forced the government to make a u-turn on that corruption law.
Now the people say they don't want the current ruling mob to remain in power to govern them because they don't trust them. They want them removed ( Aljazeera 7/2 ).
Yes, trust in leaders is a very important thing.
Now take Donald Trump. He has won the US presidential election and has become the leader of the so-called free world. But a letter writer Steve Ellis ( Canberra Times 5/2 ) says the so-called free world is now " led by a mentally unstable narcissist".
Millions of people in America and around the world share that view.
How can such a leader who stands for " bigotry, racism, sexism, plutocracy, environmental vandalism[ he's a climate change denier], and war- mongering" be trusted to do what's right?
Do we have leaders who can be trusted to do what's right?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
Leaders Standing Up For What's Right.
British Speaker of Parliament John Bercow said it was wrong to invite US President Donald Trump to address the British Parliament and "Atleast a quarter of the House of Commons " stands with him ( ' UK House of Commons speaker says he would block Trump from addressing Parliament ' The Christian Science Monitor 6/2 ).
The Speaker cited Trump's immigration ban on refugees and travellers from seven Muslim majority countries as one of the reasons for his opposition. " An address by a foreign leader to both Houses of Parliament is not an automatic right. It is an earned honor...I feel strongly that our opposition to racism and to sexism and our support to equality before the law and an independent judiciary are hugely important considerations in the House of Commons" he said.
A motion signed by more than 160 MPs calls on the speaker to not allow Trump to address Westminister Hall. " This house deplores recent actions taken by US President Donald J Trump, including his executive order on immigration and refugees, and notably his comments on torture and women" reads the motion.
Britain's PM Theresa May invited Trump to the country 7 days into his presidency no doubt to carry on doing political business as usual.
It clearly is not as plain sailing as she might have thought.
It's nice when you have political leaders prepared to stand up for human decency in politics.
Sincerely,

Right choice, really? Khan needs to get on top of issues in 10 months, when most negotiators have over 10 years experience and have followed these through and through! Or is it another façade, when the real technical advice will be provided by consultants as Biman Prasad alleges. We know Nair and Khaiyum acquired services of expensive consultants (through Nair's contacts). We know how current govt loves consultants and expatriates! Just look at number of expatriate PSs. In other words they prefer these expats to their own people as they can manipulate and let these palagis peddle their agendas.
