ROBBED OF WAGES: As Fiji went to the polls on 17 September, one of the drivers claims he was robbed of his salary after he was accused of sleeping at the wheels of the FEO car, causing accident, so NO WAGES!

One of the drivers was not paid a single cent after he almost lost his life on the day Fiji went to the polls on 17 September 17, 2014. How drivers were lied to by the FEO's Director Corporate, Kamlesh Sharma, that their overtime will be paid. The driver was blamed for sleeping behind the wheels when his vehicle overturned in Pacific Harbour.

His final wages was withheld to offset the vehicle accident cost incurred by him whilst employed by the Fijian Election Office. The damages were more then his final wages therefore we cannot pay him." - Nina Filipe to Penny Fanifau, 18 March 2015

"DCS, what do you think about the current situation, I was present in the meeting (____, DCS & Joji) when we had discussed to have the situation sorted. Your recommendation is highly sought for such case due to the reason being that we had agreed not to pay and to withhold all his pay. As per conversation with HOD Finance/Admin, the Area Officer was in charge of the drivers delegated to them and thus he had directed the persona to drive despite being notified that the driver was tired. Kindly for your recommendation and directive.

This is how everyone is treated in the new Fiji - UNEQUALlY. If you are an ordinary driver for the Fiji elections Office you will not be paid a single cent even though you almost lost your life in an accident. If you are a coupster like Frank Bainimarama then you will be paid $184.000 in back pay dating back from 1975 !,

Not all the situations are same..it may also have been the drivers fault looking at the number of road accidents in Fiji by careless drivers.

In the new and better Fiji build by coupster Bainimarama and Khaiyum if you are part of their regime or a regime lackey then you can sleep on the job ( like the Big Man himself ) ; even have sex on the job and your job and pay will not be affected.

And the government of the day continues to be a complete disappointment without ever reimbursing others who are in real need due to unfortunate events like this poor driver.

Frankie sure loves his money, its a shame he doesn't intend to share it.

I guess the driver was fortunate to survive two accidents in two weeks as per the surcharge letter attached above. He would have been a "poor driver" if he was involved in only one accident..Minister or driver sleeping at work should call for termination..

When al those who as custodian of law breached the 1997 Constitution pre and post 2006, they all got paid except those who honestly held their jobs who got fired by taking advantage of the regime.

Even the Church Father got paid by Peoples Charter for suggesting the constitution be breached to take advantage of the coup.

But a layman who just caused an accident in the cause of his duty, despite his offer to pay for the damage, they still cannot take away his wages.

Did all drivers sign up for this as part of their employment contract?

Were they paid a premium rate for that part of the contract?

Were the Elections Office paying for their accident insurance for personal injury?

If not then they should simply pay his wages as well as accident compensation and ex-gratia payment for the suffering.
