THE LAST SUPPER: Election loser and former Sodelpa Management Board member Waqanika accused of offering dinner to some Board members at her office to allegedly influence Friday (today's) meeting).
She has also accused the Radrodros' of trying to influence the SMB to join the FFP during the Coalition talks. If true, so what - it was the democratic choice of winning candidates to choose who they would be comfortable working with in a new government. It is no secret that Waqanika harbours her anger for the way she was removed from Fiji TV. We ran several stories based on the documents she leaked to us
Just reading Fiji Times (25/01/24) headlines this morning, I am glad that Mr Anare Jale has finally spoken publicly about Aseri and Sainiana Radrodro's role in the post 2022 elections negotiations where Sodelpa had to choose between PAP/NFP or FFP.
The Radrodros were indeed the main key couple that lobbied and spearheaded the campaign with the Management Board members to support FFP.
I could not understand the rationale behind the Radrodros motives for Sodelpa to vote FFP as the nation wanted a change from the 16 years of FFP Govt and moreso, the change from the 2 men rule leadership of Bainimarama and Khaiyum.
SODELPA Party stands for the preservation and protection of indigenous rights (amongst other things) & given the laws that FFP had introduced during their term of power, they were seen as a party that was anti iTaukei.
By the Grace of God and for those of us who sat in the Southern Cross Hotel we narrowly won by secret ballot - mind you, the Sodelpa Party constitution does not allow secret ballots in Management Board meetings. The secret ballot was requested by pro FFP MB members as they had received threats after they voted for FFP on Tuesday, 20th Dec, 2022 (Yue Lai Hotel) - the 1st voting which was nullified.
During the 2022 campaign period, all candidates including the Party members knew that we had to distant ourselves from FFP and we assured our voters that we will never ever form a coalition with FFP should a situation arise where we had to choose - well, who would ever think that the situation would arise in December, 2022.
The fact that Sodelpa even considered discussing with FFP was beyond me given that we had assured our supporters that we will never form a Coalition with FFP.
The demotion of Radrodro as a backbencher and this FNU saga has now become a secondary issue after the statement made by the Sodelpa Working Committee (WC) on Saturday, 20th Jan, 2024.
The threat made by the WC to even consider joining FFP has now become the primary issue.
Sodelpa received backlash from the public & party supporters when the WC threatened to negotiate with FFP simply over the issue of 1 person - Aseri Radrodro.
The Working Committee showed their incompetence, political immaturity and lack of understanding of the Party Constitution as they had no mandate to make such a statement.
After reading yesterday's Fiji Sun headlines, I told myself that there would have been some hope for Radrodro had the WC kept quiet in the first place & seek to resolve this impasse behold closed doors with the Coalition Govt..
Radrodro's picture alone sitting with other WC members (I believe he is also a member), naturally triggered thoughts to party members & supporters that oppose any coalition with FFP that the couple, yet again making moves (reasons only known and personal beneficial to them) for Sodelpa to join FFP. To succeed, they need the Sodelpa Board members to vote against the Coalition Govt. The Sodelpa MB meeting will be held tomorrow at Southern Cross.
I pray that for tomorrow's board meeting, there will not be any secret ballot voting as this is not permitted under the Sodelpa Constitution. People need to know whether their board reps are supporting or opposing the Coalition. I also pray that the Management Board puts the interest of the nation first over the individual/s.
Mr Jale and I are no longer Sodelpa Management board members.
