The National Federation Party’s suspension has been lifted. This was announced by Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem in the last hour who says they received the Audited Accounts from the NFP through their solicitors Munro Leys.

Saneem says that NFP has remedied the breach and they have been notified through their solicitors.

The National Federation Party was suspended for 30 days for contravening the Political Parties Registration, Conduct Funding and Disclosures Decree on February 1st.

Saneem said at that time that NFP’s accounts were not audited by an accountant certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

Saneem said this was brought to the Fijian Elections Office’s attention in December last year by the Fiji Institute of Accountants. Source: Fijivillage News, 18/2/2016

ONE of the world's biggest hamburger chains opened its doors in Nadi yesterday and franchise owner, Victus Ltd, a Motibhai Group Company, made the event a community affair focussed on putting a smile on the faces of children with special needs.

Chief guests at the opening of the new $6.5million Burger King outlet were 143 students from the Nadi Centre for Special Education who were also treated to mouth-watering burgers and fries for lunch. Click here

NFP's swift suspension from parliament by Khaiyum's henchman Saneem was a case of malicious persecution of an opposition party.
It was a disgraceful decision which made a mockery of parliamentary democracy.

I disagree, Chiku. The Decree is pretty clear. The Professor needed to just read the Decree and comply. Regretably the FFP Government chooses an antagonist approach to dealing with the Opposition. This is classic caucasian style democracy when a more positive and constructive approach consistent with our culture would be more productive and also foster unity amongst the population

By asserting FFTheft Party government's antagonistic approach to dealing with the Opposition is " classic Caucasian style democracy" you perpetuate the myth that in " our culture" there was not anatagonistic politics, only love and harmony. You conveniently ignore the tribal warfare that went on in " our culture". And if you broaden that out to the Melanesian culture then please explain where the ethnic slaughter among the Solomon Islanders came from not so long back requiring Caucasians to go over to maintain peace?

This should be a lesson for NFP and leader BIman Prasad to get their act together and take their responsibities to the voters seriously. They are playing with the big, bad boys and any small blunder will pounced upon. Biman has spent most his career cacooned in academia and still getting used to the cut and thrust of politics but he will grow up in time, if he survives the jungle that is politics. My advice to the former professor is to read fijileaks everyday. You will get some excellent tips and ideas about what to raise in parliament. At the moment khaiyum is running circles around the opposition. One gets the impression he is more than a match for the entire opposition on his own. Hopefully the shock therapy of suspension will shake the NFP out of its slumber and into serious mode to tackle the problems.

Agree with Haag Utah NFP. Instead of regurtating the same old issues in the media, NFP needs a strategy to achieve what it wants, a more mature grown up approach; less thunder, fury, grandstanding and playing to the gallery, more substance than style that is. NFP is our only hope and my concern is that a lackluster performance by the party and its leader will not win any seats in the next election.

There were TWO issues: first, the auditted account executed by someone who is mot registered under the 'so called' registration body and secondly, stopping the three NFP elected MPs from entering the Parliament.
Suspension of the party may have been in accordance to kai's degree BUT stopping MPs from Parliament entery will still bé challenges.

Lets see when CJ Gates gives a date for this challenge

If CJ Gates has any self-respect left - He would rule the decree is 'shit' -and that Khaiyum's 2013 Constitution of Khaiyum is a FRAUD on our nation.

Editor,
SELF-SERVING BEHAVIOUR
Responding to former Bishop adviser Jeremy Mitchell's pathetic defence of former Speaker Bronwyn Bishop, Martin Davis says no Bishop's chopper ride to a Liberal Party fundraiser was not a " mistake" but a case of blatant abuse of office.
Further that " As Speaker, she was unapologetically partisan. Of the 400 MPs ejected during her tenure 393 were Labor and seven were Coalition. No mistake, just disdain for our democratic process. This pattern of self- serving behaviour is present in many of our politicians..."
And in many in Fiji calling the shots.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
Blatantly biased Speaker
Andrew Macintosh ( smh 19/02 ) is even more hard hitting in his criticism than Martin Davis ( the Age 19/02).
He writes :
" it is touching that Jeremy Mitchell, a loyal former advisor to Bronwyn Bishop , should rise to her defence but it won't wash with this constituent of hers...
Bronwyn Bishop was the worst speaker ever. She was blatantly biased. She refused to follow the convention that speakers remain aloof from party affairs. She was totally self- indulgent in her international and domestic travels. The " chopper gate" affair was the last straw. No, Bishop should go and the sooner the better".
From what has been revealed about some politicians in Fiji by Fijileaks many people in Fiji would no doubt love to see them go and the sooner the better - for Fiji and its people.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

So what enduring lessons have we learnt from this sordid fiasco of banning and now unbanning of NFP?

That decisions are made at the whim of those in power rather than for the national good. The decision to ban NFP was vindictive . It was made to punish the NFP leadership for questioning the dictatorial manner in which the gang in government was doing business inside parliament and outside. The banning one day and the ban lifting another day is a confirmation of the dictatorial mindset of the mob in power. That's all.

Your Leader does not LEAD. He SERVES HIMSELF of other peoples wealth.

A CUSTODIAN never becomes owner of the funds he is asked to handle and pass on to its owners.

Your Leader could have been the Prime Minister once again but quick to talk about others chori but not his...!!!

Editor,
WILL JUSTICE BE SERVED in Venezuela? ( from Editors of VenEconomy) - LAHT 19/02/16.
" If something the ruling elite of Venezuela, entrenched in power for the past 17 years, has been efficient at it is to leave clear evidence and testimonies of their criminal acts, their judicial dirty moves and their outrages to get those opposing them out of the way.
Their carelessness in keeping such evidence ... well away from the public eye has been due to the near certainity that their hegemonic power over all public authorities will last forever. They believe themselves as eternal and untouchable...
Perhaps based on this believe of eternity and impunity, local judges and prosecutors pledged allegiance to the country's socialist political process. And that's why they have lent themselves to violate all constitutional and legal systems to criminalise, prosecute and condemn anyone who disagrees with the process without a word of protest. There are no barriers to stop that anti- justice system when they rule in favour of the Government for anything it pleases, or when making up offences to prosecute the innocent so that the real culprits can go scotfree ..."
Does this remind Fiji politics watchers of anything?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Yes, the ruling elite in Venezuela has a grand design for " socialist " Venezuela. The ruling elite in Fiji has a grand design for a
" better "/ read utopian Fiji where everyone is equal and all that.
Both have one real design : keep the mob in power entrenched in power.
