17 hrs · Suva, Fiji · Hon. Ashneel Sudhakar- Fiji First Party,

I am utterly disappointed with your comments recently regarding the Great Council of Chiefs.

Your comments are insensitive and disrespectful, unbecoming of a representative of the People. I am most disgusted with your continued belittling of Indigenous People and their interests, to make fun of our Chiefs, our institutions and practices - that is racism, and that, has no place in Fiji.

I suggest you apologize Hon Sudhakar!

My forefathers opened their land for persons of other races to come live and settle. I am proud that they chose to do that, and we continue to offer much respect for non-Indigenous peoples in Fiji. To read that a Indo-Fijian, [let alone a Member of Parliament], have so much hatred for our traditional governing systems and practices that revolve around the 'tanoa' as laughable and out-dated, is a racist remark!!.

We, the Indigenous of this Nation, do not require your approval to decide what is relevant and what isn't. We also do not need your accreditation, of what is a best qualified institution or what practices are to be used to engage our People.

Also I personally believe that our Chiefs should be engaged before we open our land to Climate Refugees. It is the most responsible thing to do, given that WE ARE THE INDIGENOUS of this LAND, and we DESERVE to be CONSULTED.

IF Fiji First clearly thinks that our Chiefs are unable to add to the fair application of the Law, I suggest they close shop, especially if they see it fit to throw Indigenous Institutions out the door without the prior and informed consent of the people.

I suggest to write an apology and consider resigning. This type of racist behavior is unbecoming of a young MP like yourself.

Peter Waqavonovono
Suva

Fijileaks Editor: One does not have to be indigenous to speak out on or against chiefs, and it is also wrong of Waqavonovono to talk about his forefathers generosity in allowing Indo-Fijians into Fiji; it was the British government, with the tacit approval of the chiefs, that introduced Indian indentured labourers into Fiji. This "Mr Mortein" does not represent Indo-Fijians! Fiji belongs to me as much as it belongs to Waqavonovono - such talks only strengthen FFP! The displacement of the Indians from colonial India prevented the dispossession of native Fijians in Fiji! That is the lasting legacy of the Indian Indentured System to Fiji!

The mortein Sudhakar MP should be sent for a mental check-up and Waqavonovono should consider this.

Mortein Sudhakar comes from region of Ba/Tavua and is a product of 1987 and 2000 as he as a child has survived a RACIST atmosphere of road blocks and seen eviction of his family and friends some 3000 Indian families chased away to live in squatter settlements post 2000.

As a lawyer he may have heard too many stories from his clients of that error and maybe bitterly affected emotionally and Fiji First Party comments further below rightfully pointed out:

"The Legacy of Laisenia Qarase’s Fiji is in the flip-chart of newspaper clippings from the era 2001-2004 which tells a sordid story of sufferings, merciless evictions, dispossession, dislocation, homelessness, hunger and acute poverty of a particular RACE of People of Fiji."

Are there any comments from Waqavonovono and his SODELPA on this rather than playing victims when real victim of RACISM may be the mortein Sudhakar who has not yet gained comfort from SODELPA/SDL in their policy and manifesto to-date.

Ashneel Sudhakar "Fiji First believes in merit". That's bullshit. Fiji First believes in nepotism, favouritism, cronyism, lackey ism . That is the basis of its allocation of positions in the regime. Evidence of that is all around for people who want to see. People like Sudhakar prefer not to see because he is a regime lackey who is where he is - not on merit.
He is a mediocre lawyer who is in parliament only because he is prepared to suck up to that other mediocre lawyer who has installed himself as attorney General and minister of many things in fictitious Fijian parliamentary democracy - which really is the same Bainimarama Dictatorship by another name.

Accidents of Birth! Chiefs are not Accidents of Birth. And Waqavonovono is right, the Indigenous of this Country do not need you approval, to have have the GCC sit.
Waqavonovono is right again, in saying that our forefathers allowed for immigrants to come settle in Fiji, before you allow climate refugees to come to Fiji, seek the approval of the Chiefs

"Accidents of Birth" is very wrong (insensible/insensitive) choice of words from this lousy racist Lawyer.

Ratus are of 'noble' births. Chiefs hold a special Place of Pride amongst its People – like the Singhs do. The quicker one learns to Respect that - the wiser one becomes.

This Sudhakar guy is a very big disappointment to those few hundred people who voted for him or who were paid by his friend Dayal to vote for him. Dont you think he has been currently flying in the air?
He polishes Khaiyum's shoes to shine his future but someone should tell this gunda that when future is so blink for First Fool Party then how is his future to be steady?

Come down Sudhakar as soon as posible otherwise those front teeth which is your trade mark, will be gone.

The monkey act in Parliament by ASK and open abuse of the original Fijians by AS is heading to very dangerous grounds for the Indian people of Fiji. Take heed and curb your distastes for things Indigenous because tolerance has its own breaking point when stretched to the limit. Interesting that both Parliamentarians have AS as intials and dumb as hell!! The PM and FFP must take full responsibility for the racial slurs coming from its MPs and how it impacts upon the i-Taukei. Aiyaz and Ashneel would do well to stop stirring the majority race and redirect their energies towards lifting the ban on such good persons as Dr Brij Lal and wife because USP, FNU and the Ministry of Education badly need their brand!!

That baffoon of an MP Ashneel Sudhakar and Fiji Leaks editor are wrong. If they check back the Council of Chiefs discussed the bringing of indentured labourers to Fiji and approved it despite some vigorous opposition. The transcription of the meeting makes interesting reading. As a High Chief Ro Teimumu can call a meeting of chiefs at any time. It doesn't need the approval pretender to the Vunivalu title of Bau who has no legitimacy whatsoever in the Vanua and doesn't even reside on Bau but at his wife's village at Mokani

To invite climate refugees to move permanently to Fiji requires a national referendum. Government cannot decide alone. Bainimarama can settle them on his mataqali land at Kiuva. I would advize Bai and Khaiyum to visit White River outside Honiara where Kiribati people were resettled by the British some two generations ago to see for themselves how these people live, They still live their atoll existence in slothful conditions. This is what will happen when Bai and Khai open the doors to them. The Banabans are a different people, they are more inustrious. The people you find in Tarawa are a different people. Please look at the consequences for suh large scale migration. This is a matter that should concern all Fiji citizens

Last month disembarking from the HK Flight at Nadi Airport, I was least worried to hurry up since it was a full-flight of HK Chinese tourists and a handful of us Fijians and I thought that the Fiji Passport section of the Immigration would have a short queue and fast processing. But to our surprise nearly half of the ‘tourists’ had multiple passports, including Fiji Passports in front of us.

So, brother, the (economic) climate refugees are already upon us – despite the GCC sittings or otherwise.

Such misguided comments only gives the extremists ammunition to destabilise our fragile democracy and hope everyone can show maturity before uttering venom.

As a former Fiji Indian and having both my maternal and paternal grandparents coming to Fiji from India under the Girmit System, I find Sudharkar's phrase "Accidents of Birth" bitterly and overtly offensive - to both the native Fiji people and all mothers of Fiji. As a matter of fact, its a direct assault on the chastity and integrity of all mother's (most of whom are now resting in peace in heaven).

On behalf of all Fiji Indians, I sincerely apologise to all of my native Fijian brothers and sisters, aunties and uncles.... and sincerely hope that this garbage and village idiot Sudhakar soon comes to his senses, withdraws his offensive remarks, offers an unconditional apology to the Fijian people and do the only decent thing - resign immediately. I am sure that these are the bare minimum things that his own mother would recommend him to do - assuming he is his mother's real son!!!

Even as a voter for FFP i am utterly disappointed by the degrading remarks made by Mr. Sudhakar....this is a disgraceful attempt to vilify a system that has been part of the i-taukei culture for thousands of years. Even though we are entitled to freedom of speech, still the honourable mp should be more conscious of the significance it has/had in i-taukei families. You dare to judge those whom you think are incapable of leading this country but be very mindful this system still runs in every family....both indigenous and non....consulting the elders when there is a an issue that involves the family, the clan or the village....Please Mr. Honourable mp...retract your unnecessary remarks and put away this coy attempt to deconstruct a link that has been built between the people of our beloved people.

Now we have untrained likes of Mortein man. For fighting these lot, SODELPA needs to come up with policies on the Indian subsistent Farmer and what =SODELPA has for them in their manifesto... so likes of Sudhakar can be chucked into bin.

The Legacy of Laisenia Qarase’s Fiji is in the flip-chart of newspaper clippings from the era 2001-2004 which tells a sordid story of sufferings, merciless evictions, dispossession, dislocation, homelessness, hunger and acute poverty of a particular RACE of People of Fiji.

No-one is blaming the Indigenous People or their Chiefs but a Government (LQ’s SDL) which did not take any ‘humane’ responsibility or have any clear policy of ‘rehabilitation’ and/or exhibit a ‘duty of care’ towards the DESPERATE plight of its Citizens –because of their RACE.

It is that pitiful Legacy of LQ’s SDL which Rats like Mortein Sudhakar and the pitiable IP Chor Khaiyum exploit quite successfully to their advantage. And it is equally RACIST- reverse Racism to the core.

But the question is what has Sodelpa learnt from LQ’s Legacy??

Wouldn't this have continued and become entrenched further if Bainimarama had not intervened in 2006? Qarase was hell bent on releasing Speight and group from prison. Isn't there little wonder why over 70% of Indo-Fijians voted for Bainimarama?

Mohd Saneem is not a meritious appointment and he doesnt hold minimum qualification to be a Supervisor of Elections likewise other cronies and lackey of Monkey Minister such as Asswin Raj as director human rights, Abdul khan of FSC, Faiz khan of Tropik Woods, Xavier Khan of biosecurity, etc. I entirely agree with editors comments. Assneel Sudhakar your comments were racist and on the same note waqavonovono Indians arrived in Fiji because of Britain so our forefathers toiled hard in Fiji to put where Fiji is today and not on anyones mercy.
